  PetSafe Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Deterrent By: PetSafe Average Rating: 3.0 Total Reviews: 86 More Information Works like a charm  On: 2008-11-20This product is great. We have two JRTs that can be rather nosey when it come to our neighbors. We bought this to help everyone out. You may need to play with the positioning to make it the most effective but it certainly works! Works good, but goes through a lot of batteries!  On: 2008-11-20HERES THE SCOOP ON IT: A new family moved in next door. They brought with them a german shepard looking dog that they keep in the back yard. This dog barks non-stop all day long, and its a very deep and violent bark. It boggles the mind how these people next door can be so oblivious to the barking. We couldnt enjoy the inside of our own home due to the barking. Something had to be done immediately. I read the reviews on here which seem to have mixed results. I didnt care if it was going to be a waste of money or not because I had to try something. I bought it and hung it on a tree next to our wooden privacy fence. The instuctions say not to hang it higher than 5ft but we had no choice but to hang it higher. Its hanging on the tree about 7-8ft high and its pointed down toward the middle of their yard. IT IMMEDIATELY WORKED. We were amazed. It barked once and I guess it heard the noise and it didnt bark for 2 days after that. After about the 3rd day it would give a test bark and then it would quit. We thought it was so funny. Finally relief. However, after 2 weeks the dog started on a rampage of barking non-stop again. We were thinking to ourselves that the dog must be used to it. But after taking it down, we noticed the 9 Volt battery was already dead. I guess we just have to replace the battery every two weeks, but we will. I dont think the 9 Volt lasts very long in the cold. But, to sum it up, it worked. Also, the dog looks fairly young so Im sure its hearing is acute, meaning that its getting blasted when it barks. HAHA, we win. GOT QUICK RESULTS On: 2008-11-12I kid you not, this bird house device did the trick within three days! Situation: Beach community with decks about 25 apart. The neighbors Heinz variety barked at everything; with the owner offering little assistance & with no positive results! Well the dog must have a high IQ because his barking tapered off almost immediately!!! Be quiet dog I'm sleepin! On: 2008-11-04Turn it on and dogs that barked for 30 minutes will usually quiet down after 5 minutes. Many restful nights now. Shaking doggie  On: 2008-10-29It definitely works because my 9 lb dog is barking much less. However, even on the lowest setting it scares my dog so much that she shakes uncontrollably for about an hour. Its still worth it though because her barking was unstoppable. Still have a barking bassett  On: 2008-10-20I hate writing bad reviews, but this bark control is just a nice decoration on the outside of my house. It really did not for our dogs! Beware of Fence On: 2008-10-20When this product arrived, we read the fine print on the box. It said that it needed to be located within 5 feet of the dog, with a clear path in between. Since our barking dog was on the other side of an 8 foot wood fence, the product was useless - and immediately returned. Amazon did handle the return promptly and well. does not work On: 2008-10-13This product did not work at all for my dogs, they actually became aggessive and barked more. I do not recommend. So far, not so good. On: 2008-10-10We installed the product to try and tone down the two nonstop barking labs behind ou house. It seemed to have some limited effect on day one, but as Im sittingin my house on day two, the dogs are barkig just as much as before the device was installed. The indicator light comes on when they bark, but it doesnt appear to have an effect on the dogs. Ill revise this after the two weeks the manual said to give the device, but Im not hopefull. Almost works  On: 2008-10-07We were excited to find a product that could help with the barking of our two puppies. We set it up as soon as we received it. It worked very well for the first week. Then the battery went dead and we when realized it, we replaced it. However it was too late. The puppies no longer care if it is on or off. So we will start looking again, for nother method. Very disappointed.............. Works great...but on the wrong dog! On: 2008-10-02I have three dogs but only one is a problem barker. The dog that doesnt bark is terrified to stay outside when this is on but the barker is totally unfazed by it. The third does not seem to be affected by it much either. I guess its not the fault of the product but just a crazy dog. Doesn't work on my terriers. On: 2008-10-02I have two Fox terriers and had been using one of these for a couple of months. I thought it might be working but not covering enough area of the yard, so I purchased a second one. Mistake. Turned out I was wrong. Dogs are barking as much as ever. : ( Worked for a while On: 2008-09-28We bought this product about a month ago to try to deter both of our big dogs from barking all day while we were gone as well as to stop the neighbors dog from constantly yipping. It worked on our larger dog (great pryenese) for about a week but once he got used to it, he has been able to totally ignore it and keep on barking. It did not work at all for our golden retriever who just barked louder! It also had no effect on the neighbors dog either. I wish we would have purchased the citronella collars instead! Great for some (but not all) dogs! On: 2008-09-27I foster three dogs (including a feral mother) and have a dog of my own. Two of the three fosters are notorious night-time barkers, and Ive tried just about every product out there to stop their barking and to regain civil relations with my neighbors. Everything from scolding to even shock collars (which worked for one until she wore a hole in her skin from scratching at the collar), but catching the feral mother to put on a collar was impossible. I was somewhat dubious about the effectiveness of this product, given the mixed reviews. However, desperate for sleep, I gave it a chance. Im definitely glad I did! The feral mothers nervous barking is a thing of the past. The other foster dogs barking is markedly improved. Its not entirely gone, but mostly -- which is livable. Two reasons Ive marked this product down slightly: My own dog (65 pounds and a habitual barker, when shes outside) seems oblivious to the sound. Its not so much a problem since I just bring her inside. Still, she doesnt even notice it. The other reason is that it tends to go through the batteries. Then again, with three barkers, what can I expect. At least theyre 9V batteries. I have such a huge back yard that Im actually thinking of buying a second one, since the range is not as large as my yard. I love the fact that this is battery operated, so I dont need to worry about electric cords, etc. Overall, Id recommend this product for smaller dogs (my fosters are all about 40-45 pounds). Zero Effectiveness On: 2008-09-26This had absolutely NO effect on the neighbors small, pyschotic dog. On a day when theyd left and tied the dog to their porch, I had a chance to experiment. Making sure to use a new battery, I tried it at various distances, getting closer and closer. At each point, I tried it above the ground, at head level, and low, at dog level. Finally I reached their porch, and set it five feet from the dog. ZERO. ZILCH. NADA. The dog never hesitated, never altered its barking. I might as well have closed my eyes and wished real hard. Utterly useless. If I could give it negative stars, I would. Not a deterrent at all On: 2008-09-22I purchased this item and it was a waste of money. It does detect barks and it does emit ultrasonic sounds. My dog merely found it amusing and completely ignored it after a few times that it triggered. It might work for a few dogs, but I spoke to a pet store employee and he told me many other customers had stories similar to mine. He also told me the sprays have a little more success but the shock collar seems to work best. I purchased a shock collar and now my dog is finally learning to behave. I issue a sound before the shock and after a few shocks my dog is learning to respond to sound alone. Worked Great on Aus. Cattle Dog! On: 2008-09-15When we would let her outside it seemed she would bark at just about everything, including people, dogs, lawn tools, name it. We could not use the shock collar bark control because we have an invisible fence (with shock collar). Within 3 barks, she understood why the high-pitched sound hurts her ears. Now, she will look around to see if the device is present before she barks. We just have to show it to her and she will stop if it is not already outside and on. Sometimes she modifies her bark (a lower, quieter pitch) to keep it from emitting, but its not an annnoying bark at all. Dissappointed On: 2008-09-15I was so upset it did not do what it claimed it would do. The neighbors dog is unfazed by it. And their dog can hear perfectly fine when you call its name. I had such high hopes and am considering returning it. I guess we must put up with chronic barking. Chihuahuas Live To See Another Day As a Result of This Product On: 2008-09-12We have two chihuahua mixes next door (as in, 5 feet of space between their house and ours) that arrived 6 months ago. The owners bought them for a grandmother living alone, dump them in the back yard, and never walk them. The grandmother is deaf and doesnt hear them barking (or, after months of this, me yelling at the dogs to shut up). Aside from being a hyper breed already, of course with this kind of treatment any dog would become high strung. These dogs barked at EVERYTHING. Squirrels, people walking by (across the street and on the other side of a 6 foot privacy fence), even myself if I was in the back yard area. EVERYTHING. We tried a different product where you point it at them to get them to stop, but that didnt work. The Petsafe Outdoor Bark Deterrent arrived two days ago and there was an immediate difference. They still erupt into a few barking frenzies, but 90% of the time they self-moderate and pipe down quickly. I have some concerns that they might start ignoring the sound over time, but I dont even have it set yet to the highest sensitivity level, so I think theres still some leeway if they go that route. Sigh...I cant believe some people treat their dogs the way these guys treat theirs. PetSafe Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Deterrent On: 2008-09-08PetSafe Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Deterrent I wouldnt have believed it if I hadnt tried it myself. I have 2 Chocolate Labs in the backyard who seemed to want to compete with any other dog they heard in the neighborhood. Needless to say, neighbors were disturbed especially when their barking continued late into the night. This product has TREMENDOUSLY quieted them down. I still hear them mimic sirens from time to time (thats tough for them to quit), but overall, they are quiet! HIGHLY Recommended. Great Product!! On: 2008-09-05This product seems to work as advertised. I have been using it for several weeks, and I dont have any complaints. The neighbors dogs used to bark at night and wake me up, but they have calmed down now. I dont get bothered anymore, and I am enjoying much better sleep! Good but you need to identify the reason of the barking first On: 2008-09-03It is a good product if you have a normal dog with a excessive barking problem that is known. But if your dog have several problems or you do not identify the reason why your dog barks, you need professional assistance first before you expect this to work. Anyway a good trip of 30 minutes daily is always the best solution, so your dog find equilibrium and is not obsessive or anxious. I do not recommend to talk close to it, it is very sensible and it easily confuse the talking of people or laughs as barks. Turn it off always when you are together with your dogs. Definitely not an indoors product. This absolutely works! On: 2008-09-01I was desperate so I broke down and tried this. It works folks. My neighbors dog would bark non-stop while they were gone. It was driving me crazy. When he barks I now go out with the setting turned on the highest level and hold it up over the fence. He barks 3 or 4 times, then makes a whimpering sound and stops. SILENCE AT LAST! This has worked repeatedly over the course of weeks. READ THIS REVIEW - It's The One That Counts ! On: 2008-08-27DO NOT buy this one. I purchased three ultrasonic devices, used all three at once and there was no effect! None! The answer is that ultrasonic does not work. I recommend that you purchase SUPER BARK STOP or any of this type, because this type has both ultrasonic and audible settings. Set it to AUDIBLE, full volume and full sensitivity. You will find that it is easier to train the inconsiderate neighbors than the dog. This will not annoy your inconsiderate neighbors as much as their dog annoys you, but at least you will be able to share the joy! effing schnauzers not nearly as bad anymore. On: 2008-08-07Neighbors have 4 unaltered show schnauzers - plus they babysit someones effing puppy 2x a week - plus one of their own dogs had puppies recently. (You can check out what I was dealing with on youtube -- search for "neighbor barking schnauzer" -- and see if your situation is comparable.) I was concerned that this product might not work on these schnauzers, due to the high pitch of their barking, but it does. It does not prevent absolutely *all* the barking, but it has really cut back on the standing-in-the-yard, barking-themselves-silly-just-for-fun routine. Weve had it up for maybe 4-5 weeks, on high all the time, and were already on our second battery. For some reason, the visiting puppy continues to try to out-noise the noise maker, but by now, most of the dogs will come out and bark once or twice, and then subside. Or, they go bark on the other side of the house -- which I cant hear nearly as well -- or even better, inside the house. We also got the "doggie dazer" to taze them from our upstairs office window, and while this usage is outside the advertised range of the device, and there is a tree in the way, it does seem to help as well. (Or maybe its just that I feel like Im doing something when I push that little button.) You have no idea how pleased I am when I hear "BARK, bark, rowww..." and then blessed silence. This Does Work On: 2008-08-05I recently purchased this product with a little apprehension however after day 1 I was sold . I have 2 Beagles and a chihuahua, My neighbor had said they would bark a lot in the backyard by his fence when I was gone. Now they only bark to protect the house from the front but from inside. They will growl in the backyard but after 1 bark they head back to the house and watch from the door.This does work great product. Working for me On: 2008-08-03I saw the mixed reviews and decided to buy and try it (bought it from PetSmart). I had grown tired of my neighbors two dogs (1 large retriever and some small annoying yappy thing). I have to say that it does seem to be working, no more endless barking that lasts for hours. If they do start to bark, they seem to settle down quite quickly. I just wished that I had bought it earlier and would have saved some phone calls I have had to make in the middle of the night to ask my neighbor to quieten down their dogs. Give it a shot! (the product, not the dog) On: 2008-07-27Because every dog is different, this bark deterrent may not work on every dog. Therefore, you take a little gamble when you buy this product for whatever dog problem you are trying to solve. Luckily, it DID work for my situation. When I look back on all the disturbed sleep I have had (off and on) for the last several years, it makes me wish I had found this product much sooner. My problem stemmed from our neighbors, who would go on vacation every summer for at least 2 weeks. Their 2 beagles had the run of the place while they were gone.(They could go in and out of the house through a doggie door) Of course, they had someone come by to feed them every day, but because they were unsupervised the rest of the time, they would sleep through the heat of the day and then wake up at night to bark insanely--not for just a little while...not for just an hour...it would start around 10 pm and continue till 6am. Scolding them made it worse. This year, after the first night, I was determined to solve this problem (without taking sinister measures, which I had fantasized about), so after some research I decided to try this product and it is WORKING! Every so often, I will hear them bark once or twice, but thats it. I am so pleased! I would recommend following the directions closely--ie...dont hang it higher than 5 ft.; no obstructions; play with sensitivity controls, etc. If you are contemplating trying this bark controller, I would say "go for it and see what happens". Barking Dogs On: 2008-07-20When purchasing this item, I really had some "doubts" as to whether or not it would really be effective in our situatiion. However! I was pleasantly surprised when the offending dog was immediately quieted. Neighbors leave 3 family dogs out most everyday, all day. We could NOT be in our own yard without them barking non-stop. Since we placed the "Birdhouse" in our hedge pointing their direction most of the barking has stopped. Now if someone would design one that would travel 150 feet we could take care of the German Shepards on the other side of us! Bottom line, if you have a small distance to work with - this should meet your needs. It has helped us enjoy our backyard! Save Your Money On: 2008-07-16What a waste of money -- My dogs bark whenever someone gets home; followed directions completely; Didnt even phase them. Save your money -- definitely doesnt do what it advertises. Add one more for a 5-star review On: 2008-06-23It seems that this product has a split between people who give it a very low rating, and a very good rating. As far as Im concerned, its a lifesaver! (mostly my dogs life, from the annoyed neighbors.) It might not work for all dogs, but it worked wonders for mine, She doesnt bark at random noises, the neighbors, people inside my house that she can see through the window, all the barking that I would consider "nuisance barking", only if someone strange enters the back yard (or leans over the fence and threatens her territory) does she really bark anymore, and thats fine by me. It doesnt really do much for my older dog, I suspect because her hearing isnt as sharp, but for the young one, who is the one that barked non-stop, it works great. To anyone concerned about the few 1-star ratings the people have posted, Id recommend to be sure to buy it from someplace with a good return policy, in case it doesnt work with your dog. As for me, its 5 stars all the way. Great product On: 2008-06-19My dogs used to bark at the gate when people would walk by. Not any more.. we finally have silence as people take their leasurly walks! Great product. Batteries only last about a month, so have extra batteries on hand. They Just Kept Barking On: 2008-06-18The device didnt work on any of the dogs I tried to quiet. The distance from the dogs ranged from 25 feet to right up close and personal, and they just kept barking! However, I was able to return it to Amazon for a refund. Happy about that, as this particular device was not cheap. Returned it On: 2008-06-18I bought this at PetsSmart (64.95 w/ tax) because I wanted an easy return given the mixed reviews. We have an English Toy Spaniel, 6 months, and the device only picked up on his lower pitched barks which are few and far between. But it did pick up my husbands deep voice so we had to be careful to turn it off when we were home or awake. Even given this, it worked very well for the first couple weeks. But I returned it after 30 days because either he got used to it or it just trained him to bark in a higher pitch. Im going to buy the Dog Dazer hand held unit so I can emit the sound EVERY time he barks; hopefully over time I wont need it all the time. Also, I bought the outdoor version and used it indoors. It said not to do this, but I dont know why. I wanted a sturdier version since the indoor one got such poor quality reviews. Either way, it didnt work. Hopefully one day theyll be able to put cost effective "ears" on these devices so they work for all types of barks and only barks, not voices. Exactly what I wanted On: 2008-06-18This product works exactly like I hoped it would. I have a border collie that likes to bark at night while in his outdoor pen. Im sure he was driving the neighbors nuts, and he was waking me up 3 or 4 times per night. I hung this unit from a tree nearby the gate to the dog pen. After a couple of barks the first night(three barks if I remember correctly) he quickly got the idea that he wasnt to bark. It works beautifully. Its been rained on several times and still functions correctly. Ive had it about a month and its still using the same battery. I sleep all night now...... its a wonderful thing. Best $$$ I ever spent! On: 2008-06-05After reading the other reviews, I took a risk and bought this product to help restore peace and quiet in our back yard. Two large neighbor dogs go insane any time we move in our own yard. After asking politely for help from the dog owners, we took matters in our own hands. We hung the "bird house" from a tree near the fence where the offending pooches perform their annoying chorus. While installing, both ran over, ready to start the concert and - "Whats this?" Both looked confused and immediately ran to the other end of their yard. Since that time, they not only have stopped barking, they dont even come to our side of the fence anymore! Peace at last!! Well worth it; works like magic. Useless... On: 2008-05-23We got this to deter the yap happy Sheltie next door from barking at everything. (You know...birds, people passing by, dust settling) We aimed it at the porch (which is 15 ft away...WELL within the 50 yd radius it says it works within)and tried it on every level of sensitivity and nothing. Sheltie temperment + irresponsible owner = bad neighbor relations and this was our last hope before complaining to the association. I am keeping it in case we get another small dog and it will hopefully work in that instance because unlike our rude neighbor we want to be responsible. But for crazy eyed demon dogs who are starved for attention even if its bad, it does nothing. Choose This Based on Dog size - and stubbornness On: 2008-05-20We have two mid-to-large dogs (ridge hound, and black lab mix). The ridge hound is trained, so adding the bark control was no problem. He reacted as expected - only to test to see if the device is still around from time to time. However, the black lab mix is stubborn and will bark every once in a while directly at the device to show dominance. We have a neighbor with a very bark-happy beagle. When we directed the device toward their back yard (approximately 200 feet away - or two lots) - the reaction was immediate, and the beagle stopped barking right away. Per the previous reviews, it is probable that this device may not have the expected outcome for small dogs. A hypothesis would be that 1) small dog pitch does not activate control, or 2) small dog tends to be either stubborn of lacks reasoning with when affected by the control. Another observation in studying this product is that after about 1 weeks worth of use, there has been a significant decline in Grackles (black birds) in the garden. There may not be a correlation, but we will continue to monitor and report. So, in short, this is not the end-all product, and gets 4 stars. However, if you are looking for a solution to address mid-size and larger dogs, then this product exceeds expectations. Remember, be kind to animals. Taper the use of this product of the course of a few days. Then, reintroduce this product as necessary to maintain awareness of the control with the dog. It worked for us! On: 2008-05-16Our 4-year-old Goldendoodle would bark non-stop EVERY night (but only at night and only in the backyard - at deer?) for as long as we would let him -- so much that we thought someone would call the police. I didnt want to stop him from all barking--just in the backyard at night and I didnt want to use anything that would inflict pain if it could be avoided. This little birdhouse did the trick! In one day the problem was solved. Its been about 3 weeks and its still working great! I dont know if it would work for all dogs, but it worked for us. Pretty Darn Good On: 2008-05-15I have a boxer and papillion. They both loved to bark at people walking by and at the neighbors. I purchased the PetSafe Outdoor Bark Control and have not had a problem since. Originally I only bought 1.. but found myself moving it back and forth from one side of the house to the other in attempts to keep them from barking. SO, I purchased a second. Now all is peaceful quiet! I love it! It did nothing On: 2008-05-12I bought this for our barking dog and it did nothing! I tried lots of positions and settings to no avail, so it was a waste of money for us. Annoying little dogs, find your match On: 2008-05-09I bought this from Amazon to use it on my own dog. Husband came home that day, and told me I should send it back because it wouldnt work, it was "bogus". For the longest time I believed him that it didnt work, because apparently our dog outgrown the barking on his own. So the outdoor bark deterrent just sat on a box, a waste of 60 bucks. But, today, I am a believer that this definitely works! We moved to a new house, and our neighbor has the most annoying small dogs with "big dog" complex. They bark like there is no tomorrow, and a very high pitched bark too! It is 1000% worse when neighbors are not home. After the dogs were barking for more than a half an hour, I went out with my flip camera (didnt have a tape-recorder available), turned it on and came back inside the house. 20 minutes later, I went out to get my flip camera (trying to document the annoyance so that the neighbors can see what their dogs do when they are not around) and the dog was still barking. So I remembered that I had that Ultrasonic thing. I put the thing on top of the brick fence, facing the dog. Didnt work, perhaps too high/far from the dogs. I went back inside the house, grabbed a stepping stool, and a piece of rope. Turned it on to level 4. Attached the rope to the bird-house, stood on the stool, and lowered the bird house to the dog level on the other side of the fence. Dogs barked maybe a couple seconds, and then they were gone! It turned out the dogs run to the other side of the house, and kept barking, but at least now they were far enough for the noise to be muffled. Ill make a video next time, it was so un-freaking-believable! It only gets 4 stars though, because it doesnt pick up the barks from more than maybe 6 feet distance. It would be awesome if it had worked from the top of the fence, but I had to lower that thing on the other side for it to work. peace and quiet but anxiety On: 2008-05-05Had a problem with my two dogs fence barking with the two neighbor dogs. The two male dogs (mine and the neighbors) did not seem to be affected by the birdhouse but my female dog experienced lots of anxiety when a dog barked and she heard the birdhouse ultrasound. She was very stressed when the other dog barked, ran in the house and couldnt settle down for quite awhile. Ive turned it off and hopefully this has trained her not to start the barking as it has been a lot quieter in our neighborhood now. Works for about a week On: 2008-05-03I have two yorkies and it worked for about a week. Then even 5 feet away with it on the highest setting they will still bark. Didn't stop a chow On: 2008-04-30This did not stop a chow from barking like crazy, even 2 inches in front of the device. Pet Safe Outdoor Bark Deterrent On: 2008-04-29It may be OK in a warm wather climate but it did not work here. The wires running to the 9 volt battery broke off and I had to resolder them. A 9 volt battery only lasts for a brief period. I am going to order a 110 volt unit and try it. I am convinced it actually retarded the barking when it actually worked, which was rare. Works on beagles! On: 2008-04-28I bought this product because the alternative would have ended up with two dead beagles and probably me in jail. Installed it facing over the fence, and the ridiculous howling has been reduced to one howl followed by silence until their little brains forget and they howl again. Id say the improvement is in the area of 70%, plus the added fact that the owner now sees a flashing light which he thinks is some kind of recording device. I had read that the product does not work on deaf dogs, which may explain the (limited) continued howling. Though expensive, this product is worth a huge amount when compared to the cost of disruption caused by people buying dogs because they think they look cool instead of doing research and realizing that beagles are actually disciples of satan. Excellent Results for Multiple Dogs On: 2008-04-27I have 4 Doxies and a Corgi who, combined, produce enough barking to annoy our neighbors. I was a bit skeptical because I didnt think that a good cause and effect could be reliable with so many dogs, some of whom were barking and others not. Happy to say I found that bark control has been achieved. I may purchase an additional one for our side yard. Right now Im experimenting with moving the little bird house to different area of the yard. Great product and well worth the price. It works as advertised On: 2008-04-25This bark controller has definitely worked in my backyard. It reduced the barking in neighboring yards by 40% the first night. Several weeks later, the barking is down 70-80%. Typically, the dogs bark once or twice and give up. This product has virtually silenced two labs, two sheepdogs, and two great danes, in three different yards. The schnauzer next door still gets through, though. I have this product hanging on my back fence in the middle of my yard, and it seems to cover pretty well. If the barking is loud enough to wake me up at night, the bark controller activates. Actually works pretty well On: 2008-04-24Bought this to stop a neighbors dog from excessive barking. Very easy to set up, test and use. It seems to have stopped about 70% of the barking. The device is about 20-30 feet from where the dog usually stands and barks. I really didnt think it would work as well as it has and would buy it again. OMG, It's a Miracle!!! On: 2008-04-21We have a one year old Yorkie Poo who is a bark machine. Fortunately Im home most of the time, so I can go out and either make her stop barking or bring her in the house. We have a corner lot and the mailbox is right next to our fence, so if anybody walks by or tries to get their mail, she just goes nuts. Our poor next door neighbors cant even go into their backyard, cause she takes it as an invasion and goes beserk. Very territorial! Finally yesterday I got fed up with the barking, so we went down to PetSmart and bought this product, which Ive been holding off on, cause I thought it was too expensive. It was money well spent! Now she goes outside and barks once or twice, and just STOPS! Its a miracle! Now my husband and I can actually sit and enjoy a TV show without having to shush the dog every few minutes. I wish Id done this months ago! might work under a certain circumstances... On: 2008-04-21This item might work if the dog is young enough to learn. The product failed for my situation because the dog had been a barker too long, or wasnt smart enough to figure out why the noise was being made. The other dog in the pen did stop barking, but the other didnt so it was more of a torture for him and he just stood there shaking. I think you have to catch them soon enough or when they are young enough to learn. 200% useless On: 2008-04-18Useless. Peace and Quiet On: 2008-04-15I purchased the PetSafe PBCoo-11216 Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Deterrent for a friend. His neighbors dogs started barking the minute he entered his backyard. Using this great little item stopped them in five minutes. After a few whimpers, they left the fence near his home and went to the other side of their yard and remained quiet. Now, he can sometimes go outside and not even need to activate it. It sure makes him happy! Great product and ease of use. These were medium to large size dogs. Peace in the neighboorhood On: 2008-04-08I got this product in the hopes of keeping my dogs quiet during the day. When we moved from my moms house to a small townhouse, with a small patio, I was worried that they would disturb the neighbors, being so close and all. It hasnt completley stopped them from barking, they still like to give happy yips when I get home. However, my next door neighboor hadnt seen them until we were out on a walk one day, and she couldnt believe what large dogs I had, said she hasnt heard them barking or anything. What a relief! Don't waste your money On: 2008-04-05I purchased this item in the hopes that it would "train" my neighbors dog not to park, the offending dog was literally across my driveway..unfortunately my neighbors deck sits higher than their fence and they have four dogs, however, only 1 is an offender. I stood on my deck faced this product at her and she continued to bark. The lights came on to indicate a signal was being broadcast but the dog had no reaction to it. Im going to be working from home soon and refuse to let this dog ruin that for me...my search continues Short Lived On: 2008-03-29Just a little over a month after first plugging this device in, it stopped working properly. The LED light still flashes and indicates when it hears barking, but the ultrasonic speaker no longer makes any sound. When I first got it, I could feel the vibration of the speaker with my finger and feel the pressure with my ear, but no longer. The speaker does warm up noticeably when it should be making a sound, but nothing else. It's never been this quiet On: 2008-03-14I have 2 Labs and a German Shorthair. They used to bark at the squirrels and rabbits from their pen. Then I moved in 2 little terrorists (terrier crosses) that needed a home for awhile (that was 5 month ago). One of them barked just to instogate a bark off with the Shorthair. The other isnt prone to being verbal. I bought 2 of these the first one worked great, the big dogs are quiet, the verbal terrorist is almost quiet. The big dogs dont bark at anything anymore. Not even when I get home from work. Terriers apparently arent the brightest bulbs, so he still tests the machines out. Not nearly as loud or as frequent as he used to be. Picked up the 2nd one because the pen is about 25ft square. I have it on the opposite side of the pen from the first at the low setting. The low setting covers 13ft, so the little barker gets its from both sides, unfortunately so do the big dogs. I cant hear it, but it is quite evident that the big dogs can. And they dont like it. It quite evident that the litte barker can hear it also, hes just bull headed and not too bright. When he tries to bark now its not at the top of his lungs or for very long. No deterrent to my neighbors' dogs On: 2008-03-04We have been blessed with new neighbors with three large dogs. The dogs bark at everyone who passes, including my family every time we enter our back yard. I purchased the Petsafe PBC00-11216 in an attempt to tone this annoyance down and left it in place for three weeks. I mounted it on a post facing their yard and noticed no reaction from the dogs. The indicator turned on in response to the barking, but the dogs did not seem to react at all. No effect what-so-ever for our dog On: 2008-03-03We have a German Shepherd dog who barks at everyone that passes by our fence. We put the device in various locations around the yard to NO effect whatsoever. Our dog doesnt seem affected by it. The device seems to be working, as we can see the green light and red light functioning properly when the dog barks / stops barking. Works Great At First Until The Dog Gets Immune to It On: 2008-02-26the PetSafe Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Deterrent worked great at first... I did the recommended, "turn off device when not in use/needed" but then it became more of an incovenient because my husband sleeps later than I do and so I end up leaving the device on all day...well the dog got immune to it. So now, it just ignores it. If you can turn it on & off - sure purchase it but if you dont have the time, most of the time, like I do, then your next best bet is try to see if your city have some sort of ordinance for animal noise/excessive dog barking. Pet Safe Bark Control On: 2008-02-26I have nothing good to say about this product. I bought it to control my Lab and Ridgebacks barking without using a shock collar. Within 30 minutes of it operating (I tested it, it was working) they were barking non-stop within 6 feet of the device. It was set at the highest frequency of 50 ft. Useless and a waste of money as far as Im concerned. Yes, it works On: 2008-02-25We have tried other products to get the dog next door - a very large Doberman - to stop barking. The very first time my husband turned this on and pointed it toward the dog, he stopped barking, whimpered a little, and went back up on his porch. We dont have the unit mounted (yet), but each time the dog barks my husband takes it out and points it at him. Its gotten to the point that the dog just sees the unit and stops barking. New device in the barking stopper market On: 2008-02-18As my dog getting older she became quite assertive. She sometime uses prolonged barking in the yard to demand immediate attention for things like walking, feeding or coming in. Being equally assertive, one of my neighbors had written a few complain letters to me, threatening to bring up the dog barking issue to the city council. So I searched on Amazon for a barking stopper, and found this new and only device among numerous shock collars. The reviews were scanty, but positive. I then bought it because one, I hate shocking collars; two, its hard to find a non-invasive training collar for a large dog anyway; three, this device does not require human interaction such as being there to push a button. It worked wonderfully - I hang it in my yard and set the sensitivity at the middle, considering my puppy is deaf. That day she barked twice and stopped immediately. I have four small terrier-like dogs and they usually bark at the birds in the trees or dog in the next yard. Its been about a month.I read the whole manual and understood it. I put the birdhouse on the HIGHEST setting "setting #3" which equals 50 feet and the results Ive gotten are mixed. Sometimes they bark and other times not. The manual says give it 2 weeks, but it has been over a month now and the barking is still pretty constant. Personally I feel like I was robbed. Im not sure if its even worth sending back and wasting more time. If you can buy it in the store and it doesnt work it would be easier to get your money back. This is a Miracle!! We thought this would be a great solution to stop her from barking without having to hurt her or disturb anyone else. We didnt think about the affect on the poodle who was not causing any of the problems. When she would bark, it would go off, but she didnt care she just kept on barking. Meanwhile, inside the house the poodle could also hear the noise because we had to set it on the 50 foot range setting. He started acting really weird and hiding all the time, afraid that he would hear that noise again. We used this for less than a week and then decided to return it. Nice idea, but it didnt work for us. We ended up purchasing the lemon spray anti-bark collar for the coonhound and so far that has been working great, she is barking A LOT less. Not for Parson Russell Terriers On: 2008-02-08This product worked for about a week, now my young Parson Russell Terrier will stand in front of the unit and bark with the unit turned to the highest setting- youd think shes deaf but shes not. There is a setting where it gives an audible beep when it works, so that was a great way to determine what would set it off. i was worried that people walking past the yard or other noises would set it off and would not be useful. So far, seems to be working perfectly. People talking and car noises havent set it off, but the dog barking certainly did. Now, the dog goes outside, starts to growl, and then stops. It doesnt deter him from going outside, and definitely has stopped him from constant barking. Worth the money so far. It is like magic!!! In fact, they run right up near the thing (within 2 or 3 feet) and seemingly bark AT it. And they dont stop. They just seem to be annoyed at it rather than learning not to bark. I am not impressed with this product and question the legitimacy of the 5 star reviews. I do not recommend this item. The merchant, Key Products, was excellent, however. I did receive it within 4 days of ordering with regular shipping and I would recommend them. Just not for this product. Total Waste on Loud Street On: 2008-01-07This box goes off everytime a loud noise happens around it. When my neighbor starts her car it goes off, when a car drives by on the street it goes off, when I shut the front door it goes off...etc. I live on a small street in Key West so its pretty cramped housing. We have lots of dogs around our house so our little dog is always barking with the neighbors dogs when someone walks down the street. I feel bad hanging this box outside and having it go off every five minutes when any loud noises occur and hurting the ears of all the dogs around. Plus, they cant learn that their barking is causing it when it goes off all of the time. And it rarely goes off when my dog barks anyway. It now hangs in the tree out front in the off mode. Our dilema led us to a serious decision about sending the dog to the adoption agency or having the surgery to remove his voice. Both options sounded cruel. Cruel to the new owner who would acquire a barking problem and cruel to a sweet dog that likes barking at squirrels, foxes and neighborhood dogs. Bark Arrester On: 2007-09-17Weve been bothered by a neighbors dog that comes out periodically day and night and just barks for 10 to 30 minutes -- usually facing our house. We got this product, found a spot in the trees facing the dog, and set it up. Its really worked as advertised. The dog starting barking, as usual, but then seemed to bark fewer times, and with less noise. As three weeks have passed, we hear the dog give one or two "test" yelps (more than barks) presumably to see if it still gets "zapped by the machine. Since it does, it stops barking immediately. No more gritting teeth (for us) for 10 to 30 minutes, as before. So, Im delighted with this and wholeheartedly recommend it. |
