Nice bed Very nice for puppies, I just got it for my dog who was having puppies and they loved it! Pretty comfortable and washable , very nice and the price too! Spend your $$ Elsewhere After one winter the heating pad didnt work anymore. The warranty is for one year, and we didnt try to use it again until the next winter so too late to get it taken care of. Reg. heating pad inside. Helps arthritic dog I have this product for already 2+ years, and it served my 11+yo Englih Setter with arthritis. Frankly, my dog prefers more her unheated Double Sided Geri-Bed (which I highly recommend), but this products deserves a good review nonetheless. The heating element inside is a regular heating pad at the lowest setting you get in the drugstore...As dogs need lower temperatures for comfort, the bed maintains a comfortable tempearture setting for a DOG, while for a person it might seem barely warm. The fabric is sturdy and washes well, but I wish it was denser to prevent hair penetrating into the foam insert, as it is impossible to get that hair out of the foam. I finally figured to use plastic bag between the foam and the cover to mitigate the problem. I also wish the fabric seams were better finished inside. No, it hasnt fallen apart and the zipper is in perfet shape, but seams are frayed inside, which is annoying for me... although the fraying is not visible outside. Over the years the foam still maintains its shape, i.e hasnt sunk, but the top surface shows significant wear - however, my dog always "digs" for like 5 minutes before settling, so she ruined the surface quicker than a non-digging dog would. Overall, the product is worth the $35-40 range, of satisfctory quality to last a few years, and looks decent. KV Vet store is fast on shipping. Poor Doggie Would Freeze I purchased this item about a week ago and I must say after trying it and hearing what the manufacturer has to say I am extremely disappointed. On the manufacturers website it states "Dual thermostats keep temperature to a comfortable 102°". Sounds toasty! But when I received the item I noticed the disclaimer/directions said in several areas said it would become "warm, not hot". So I plugged it in. After several hours and days of testing it was "barely warm" if I pressed my hands into the pad or if I sat on it myself. How is this supposed to keep a dog warm? So I wrote the manufacturer (KH Manufacturing) and received this reply from their sales manager, Dawn Buffington. "The Ortho Thermo-Bed is designed to be used indoors, meaning indoor temperatures. (60 degrees or more) The Ortho Thermo-Bed is also designed to remain 10-15 degrees above ambient air temperature when your pet is not on the bed. The bed will only heat to 102 degrees when you pet is lying on the bed." So...this Thermo-Bed is meant to be used inside homes (not garages, which I would consider indoors) where it is already warm? I can also guarantee this product does not rise to 102 degrees when either I or the dog have been on it. The only thing that has risen to that temperature is my temper after reading that ridiculous response. My opinion...look elsewhere from a more responsible manufacturer. Barely Above Room Temperature I would describe this product as just OK. I bought it thinking it would make a warm cozy bed but the thing BARELY gets above room temperature. Ive had it on for four hours now and I seriously checked to see if my wall socket was working because the thing was so NOT warm. I unzipped the cover and was further disappointed to see that the heating pad itself is actually very small. It is only about 60% as big as the bed itself so not all of the bed gets "warmed" up. That said, the foam itself is firm and would probably be comfortable for a dog to sleep on. All in all, this is not what I thought it would be. Brilliant bed Eleven-year-old Rudy (who suffers from osteo-arthritis) had an earlier heated bed, and enjoyed it well enough, but it was nothing like this one. The Ortho Thermo bed is double-thick, and evenly warm. It seems admirmably durable, as well. Most importantly, however, I noticed an immediate change for the better in Rudy. Hes spry again, and takes the lead in walks instead of lagging. I literally feel this bed has added years back. Its a winner. |
