![]() Medium brake-fast bowl (Blue) By: brake-fast Average Rating: 3.5 Total Reviews: 18 More Information don't stay in place The bowls slowed down the dogs somewhat when they ate. The one thing I didnt like was they slide too easily. After I bought these I found them at petsmart and they had rubber on the botten so that they wouldnt slide around and they were cheaper. Didn't slow my dog down enough Even when using this dish (and other competing products), my dog still had trouble from eating too fast. I consulted my vet and he suggested I use a dish with a stand that raises the dish off the floor and feed canned food or home-prepared food instead of kibble. I tried that instead of this dish and my dog hasnt had any more problems with eating too fast. Great product--really helps This has really helped with my dogs food obsession and gourging on her meals.......it forces her to slow down to eat and as a result her gassiness has decreased. Works as advertised for me My choc. lab is a very "aggressive" eater and would finish a cup and a half of food in under 30 seconds. I would have to stay in the kitchen and watch or when he was done with his food hed wander over to his brothers bowl and a fight would/could insue. I decided to try this bowl based on the claims that it would slow his eating. It indeed works and slows the dogs eating to a reasonable pace. I am disappointed by the quality of the bowl. It is very lightweight and my dogs seem to think its a toy due to how easy it is for them to move it around. This means I have to pick the bowl up after each meal or theyll rip it apart. This bowl scoots around too much to be useful by itself. Aggressive eaters will move it unless its on a piece of carpet with a rubber backing or similar no-skid surface. Brake-Fast Bowl My dog is still eating his food like it will disappear any second. I have not seen any difference with the use of this bowl. He now foams at the mouth when eating. Also this bowl slides all over the kitchen floor. It does not stay in one place. This is also frustrating for my dog. I have to put it in the corner so it will not move. I have not giving up on this bowl, Im hoping he starts to slow down when eating. Good idea, poor design, slides all over the place... I have three Vizslas, who like to gulp their food. We bought these bowls to slow them down. The bowls do slow them down, however these are made out of plastic and they slide all over the place, making it difficult for the dog to eat from, and rather frustrating. All the design needs is a rubber ring on the bottom that grips the tile/floor. Good form, decent function, cheap material I (or rather my Yellow Lab) have had this bowl for 6 months. It slows her down, but mainly because its cheap, light-weight plastic and she has to push it all over the floor to get the food out. She pushes it so much that the edges are wearing down; I imagine it wont last much longer than a year at this rate. They have a metal version of this bowl now, and though its expensive (especially if you want to get three of them for three dogs, like I do), its probably a much better investment than the plastic, since it will basically last forever. Excellent This is an excellent product that completely slows down my 5 year old Weim, Bulina while he eats. My complaint is that this is plastic and would much have prefered a stainless steel bowl Great invention to slow down fast eaters! I bought the medium for our Australian Shepherd that INHALES her food. It slows her down significantly. We used to use tennis balls in her food dish, but this works much better. I was a bit worried about sizing but this works great for our dog that eats a cup of dry food twice a day. A nice bonus is that it can be put in the top rack of our dishwasher for easy cleaning. Brake-Fast Bowl great for fast eating dogs This has worked great. We have a young pit bull and it has slowed him down on his eating. It worked for my dog My lab is a little over a year old, and from the day we brought him home, he would eat so fast that hed throw up not long after eating. Hes used this bowl for about 10 months now, and I can honestly say that he doesnt throw up after eating anymore. To me it was worth every penny. Were getting another lab soon, and I am ordering another Brake-fast bowl today, so well be prepared this time. SORTA Our dog still gulps her food down without chewing. But did it slow her down? Yes. Did it change her eating style? No. So I guess the dish sorta works. It is made of pretty light plastic so our dog moves it all over the place trying to eat out of it. Maybe thats half the point. If your dogs a chewer, which ours is, dont leave it out. Make it out of a little heavier plastic so it feels more solid. Dont expect your dog to change its eating style. They will still TRY to eat fast. Brake Fast Dog Food Bowl Works! I recently purchased four Brake Fast Bowls, three for my dogs (two Rottweiler /Lab crosses and a Great Dane) and one for my foster dog, a Doberman. One of my Rotties tried to tip the dish, but the sloped sides prevented that. He tried to pick it up and dump it, but failed there as well. The other three tried eating as fast as before, but really did have to slow down. My other Rottie mix is now approaching his dish slower (before he would dive into it and send the kibble flying). My only complaint is that the dishes are plastic and there are teeth marks on the posts. I would definately purchase these again in heavy duty stainless steel. I hope the manufacturer reads this! Brake-Fast Bowl is a Godsend This bowl is amazing!! We have tried all the tricks to get our dog to slow down her eating...large rocks in the bowl, feeding a tiny bit at a time - many times a day, even hand feeding (and she is a large dog). We are very concerned about bloat and were at our wits end when we discovered Brake-Fast. She eats much more slowly (we even hear her chewing!!) and isnt hungry during the day. She used to beg all day long and now she is happy with her morning and night feedings. Remember, if you have a dog with a wide muzzle, (boxer, bulldog, etc) this will not work because they have to fit their mouths between the posts...but for most dogs it fantastic!! It washes up well in the dishwasher and seems pretty sturdy. Didn't solve gulping problem Although this slowed my pup down a little he still was gulping everything down like a vacuum cleaner. It did not encourage him to chew his food. We LOVE this bowl, and so does our coonhound This bowl has provided us and our coonhound many hours of entertainment. Our hound was nearly starving to death when we rescued him so he was voracious whenever food was presented to say the least. I feed real food, not just kibble and that gives me the opportunity to smear food all around the bowl and posts which prolongs the enjoyment. If you only feed kibble, try adding some quality yogurt or applesauce w/o sugar, and see what fun you and your dog can have. Putting the bowl on a smooth service adds to the fun because it gets pushed around. My hound went from about 30 seconds of eating his meal to about 4 to 5 minutes depending on whats in the bowl, and he absolutely loves it. I have to buy another now for the 2nd dog because he gets so bummed out that he finishes before the hound and has to watch him play with his bowl. I prefer plastic, but if anyone wants a metal bowl, send emails to the Brake Fast company and they will respond. Their service is excellent. My current dogs dont eat their bowls, but I had a husky who would chew on anything plastic so I know it wouldnt have worked for her, either. Great idea, but not so great material Ive been looking for this type of product for a while, and it actually amazes me that no one else has thought of it.. then I realize why the problem with this, is that each dog is obviously different. The length of the nose and shape of mouth, makes a big difference. I have 4 labs, 1 of them is a mastermind, and knows the tricks of the trade to get in there and eat fast, the other 2 still goes in circles trying to get it, the last just takes his dandy ol time anyways to begin with It does work to some extent, but some dogs "learn". so I notice that my dogs at first ate slow, but now eat faster. Not as fast as they would in a normal bowl but still, theres only so much you can do I guess Lastly, my biggest gripe is the material. Its like cheap plastic imo. My dogs bit their bowls, and the plastic gets damaged easily so my next question is, why didnt they make this with Metal ? or somethhing else more durable? good luck, hope it works for you.. Not to good for a bulldog I have a bulldog puppy who eats way to fast. This is a great bowl, but because Bulldogs have flat faces, it really doesnt work too well for them.
