My husband just replaced the inner battery of this Petsafe RFA-188 battery with a Duracell 1/3N battery found in our small town local hardware store for $4.00! He said he broke off the seal holding the old 1/3N battery and popped in the new one without tape or glue. We love the Petsafe Little Dog Receiver but after reading all the reviews about how fast the batteries died, I was a little concerned. We turn the batteries (2 dog collars) off at night and back on during the day and the first collar lasted about 2 months. Replacing the battery every 2 months at $4.00 a pop is, in my opinion, no big deal. What freedom for us and our 2 dogs! RFA-188 short life  On: 2008-10-08It has been our experience that these batteries only last about 3 weeks or so. It is probably underspeced for the little dog collar, more than likely to save space and weight. A little bigger battery with more capacity would be good... Great fence, awful battery design On: 2008-06-07THe Petsafe Invisible fence works fantastic, and I bought a standard size collar for my lab. The battery life, and overall performance is terrific. We got a second much smaller dog, and I made the mistake of buying the Petsafe Ultralight collar. It cost twice as much as the full size collar to start with, and as other reviewers have stated, the $10-$14 battery only lasts about 3 weeks, which makes the ongoing cost unacceptable. One of the recent batteries I purchased was completely dead in 2 weeks. I have a tiny little dog that doesnt get anywhere near the fence, so the collar doesnt go off and yet the batteries last less than a month??!! Petsafe.. come on.. . get with it.. make a rechargeable version, make it so we can put less expensive batteries in or something. 8 or 10 bucks a month is a bit too much. Underneath it youll find a Sanyo CR-1/3N battery that can be purchased online for 3 dollars. I plan on buying a bunch in bulk to make shipping worth it, slap it in and use some glue or tape to put it back together. To find the inner Battery, just google it. My larger collar for a second dog only needs replacement every 6 months. 1 Month Battery Life On: 2007-09-28Battery lasts only 1 month. Unless of course you turn your battery off at night or during the day when youre at work. Then I see some people saying it can last 2 months. Whoopee. Still a really bad product. Great System -- Low Battery Life on Collar On: 2007-09-13I love this in-ground fence and the little dog collar is a nice design. However, I have gone through six batteries in four months. I called PetSafe about the battery life and they said it should last 1 to 3 months. Im getting 3 to 4 weeks out of a battery and this is becoming quite expensive. The PetSafe representative was extremely helpful. Because the collar is less than a year old, they (for a small fee) exchanged the collar for a different type. Bad battery On: 2007-08-06I have 2 dogs wearing these and they do not test the fence often. The batteries last less than a month. They are expensive and should be considered along with the purchase price of the fence as part of the overall cost. My only complaint is that it is less battery than the other petsafe collars and it costs more. $10 is excessive. I may try to reduce the power setting as the dog is now trained. The PetSafe Training Guide advised a 3 to 6 month life. A little short of expectation. Bad Product! On: 2007-04-11I purchased a "little Dog" radio fence from Petsafe and the fence is excellent, but the "little dog" collars are eating up batteries. The collars nice and small but if I get 3 weeks from one of these batteries then I am lucky. DO NOT BUY the little dog collars! Lasts only about 1 month On: 2007-03-09I use this battery for a dog collar from PetSafe. The first time I used the battery and it went dead within a month I just replaced it thinking it was a bad battery. The second one went dead in about a month as well. I wrote an e-mail to PetSafe and they said that was about right. They said the collar was meant as a training device only. The problem is that I have a very smart dog and when his batter goes dead he knows because the hidden wire no long makes his collar click and he goes running into the street. $9 a pop for the replacement batter makes this collar pretty expensive. It owuld have been cheaper to build a fence. |
