Bottoms Up Leash is Tops with me     On: 2007-11-01

My female Border Collie has DM and this leash allows me to exercise her and she loves it. No problem doing her business either. Can be a little problematic giving the dog direction and sometimes a leash around her collar is needed. But I highly recommend it for any dog owner needing to give their animal a way to walk again.
Not very useful for our DM dog     On: 2007-10-17

I bought this for our 66 lb afghan hound with degenerative myelopathy (DM), which is progressive spinal paralysis starting with the hind quarters and gradually moving forward. It fit and stayed on OK, maybe because of his long hair. But you have to be really careful that the loops go over the hip bones under/beside the tail as shown in the instructions or else they will slip up and encircle only the thighs, which looks really uncomfortable for the dog. Perhaps a horizontal strap under the tail connecting the two leg loops would help with that, if it didnt interfere with elimination. While it may work for arthritis or other afflictions affecting only the ability to bear weight, I would not recommend this for a DM dog. In my experience, the major problem with DM wasnt bearing weight but side-to-side balance, and if anything, this leash made that worse. It didnt really improve the dogs mobility at all. However, once his disease was very advanced and we basically had to carry him everywhere because all weight-bearing ability and balance were gone, it did help reduce MY back strain.
not happy     On: 2007-09-20

I was not happy with this product and have only used it once. It will not stay in place when the dog is moving around and you have to hold it constantly. I should of paid attention when I looked at how it was made, but sometimes we learn the hard way. Im out the money and I have to buy something additional.

The Bottoms Up leash is a clever idea. On my dog, a medium-sized German Shepherd cousin with neural degeneration in her hindquarters, it almost works. When I keep tension on the leash, it stays in place, but my dog doesnt appreciate the constant upward pull. When I let it go slack, it immediately starts to slide down the dogs rump and falls off. I cant find an adjustment on the leg straps (snug or loose) that keeps this from happening. I think that the problem is caused by my dogs rump being lower than her back, plus her habit of keeping her tail low rather than up. I would guess that her tail would keep the leash in place otherwise. Too bad. I really wanted this to work. I might still use it when her neural degeneration becomes bad enough that she needs an almost constant boost.

A Huge Help for Handicapped Dogs and their Owners     On: 2007-04-19

I just got the "Bottoms Up Leash" for my 15yo 70lb dog with a spinal disease. Her back legs dont work anymore. This leash is easy to put on which is very important for daily use. It seems like this leash would fit any dog. My dog is happy to be able to go out for a little walk and Im very happy to be able to get her out of the house.
It Didn't Fit     On: 2007-01-11

My old dog (New Foundland/Black Lab mix) cant get up by himself, so I bought this leash to help him (and myself). Well, it didnt fit him and I havent used it even once. If I could find the receipt, Id return it and try to get a refund. It looks like its good quality, but useless for me.

As it stands, the leash is still in its packaging and I am still using an old sheet to help him stand.
