PetSafe Comfort Fit Bark Collar     On: 2008-11-12

We adopted a beagle several months ago who likes to bark, whether it is warranted or not. We use this collar to help train her to not bark just for the sake of barking. Once we put it on her, it works quickly. By using this method regularly it has reduced the amount of general barking.
requires a tiny phillips screwdriver!     On: 2008-10-11

this product gets a whopping four stars because it works. turn it on, put it on the pooch, and the poochs reign of terror is over. my dog had a habit of barking incessantly when left home alone, and this is the only option i tried that worked.
dont feel bad, its really not so cruel. he learned after the second buzz that it was related to the barking. its been quiet here since then.
the only silly thing is that you need a tiny screwdriver to turn this collar on and off. i suppose you could leave it on all the time- i had a petsafe one that didnt turn off and the batteries lasted four or five months.
Yappy dog trained after one zap.     On: 2008-09-17

I have a dachshund mix that is scared of children, other dogs, neighbors...pretty much anything that moves. His incessant and loud barking was making people cry (literally), so I bought this to try and help. As horrible as shock collars seem, I have to say this worked better than any other training method Ive tried. Thankfully it only took one or two barks for him to get the picture. Now, I just put it on him with it turned off and he knows what "could" happen so he wont bark, but isnt scared to bark when its off of him (say if he hears something at night, which is good for security). This training method rides the fine line between clever and cruel though. I would use this as a last hope. It did work and I like the fact you can set the level of strength. Hes barely big enough for this collar. If you have anything smaller than a beagle or large dachshund, I would use one for smaller breeds. This would fit my 96 lb German Shepperd mix better, but he will stop barking when I tell him to, so Ive not had to put it on him.
works just fine     On: 2008-07-22

I have had a pcb-102 for years now, it works great... I just bought a second one as well. I have a newer model that has voltage variability but this product definitely has what it takes to keep my barky dogs quiet.

I feel bad that the other reviewer had such a problem with their unit, I also bought replacement batteries that were bad directly from the manufacturer. when I bought the newest replacements they were wrapped in tape and worked great. the batteries will only last as long as your dog test the system, so the deaf dog must have been barking quite a bit.

Not for small dogs     On: 2008-06-14

I bought this collar to control three of my 15 lb. dogs, a dachsund and 2 bichons. The collar is huge. After cutting off about 14 inches of excess collar the fit is oblong and appears very cumbersome. The first battery lasted over a month. I admit the collar does work well at controlling the barking. Ive been switching it between dogs and each dog has it figured out and knows when they are not wearing it. Im back looking for a smaller and better fitting collar as I will not buy another of this model. I recommend it to larger breeds, even though it says 11 lbs and up, hesitate to buy it for a dog under 20#.
not good at all     On: 2008-04-08

my dog is deaf and has a terrible high pitched bark. she ran through her first bark collar in about 8 months. i got this one as the replacement and it stopped working after about six weeks. when i bought replacement batteries, neither seemed to work so i took them back and exchanged them, thinking they were bad. still didnt work. now its 3 in the morning and shes barking and whining and i cant sleep. i DO NOT recommend this product.
Impressive bark prevention collar     On: 2008-04-08

When my 12-yr old dog, Anka, suddenly started barking every single morning, I was hesitant to try a bark collar. However, this effective yet economical product was exactly what the vet (and my sanity) ordered. Anka only needed to wear it for one week to break her of the habit. She hasnt worn it in 3 weeks now and shes still bark-free. I know shes a smart dog and all, but Im very impressed with this collar nonetheless.
Petsafe PBC00-10677 batteries     On: 2008-04-04

Ok - this works except that my dog will bark its fool head off once the collar is removed. I have a night barker who is the most annoying thing on this planet. Also 60% of the batteries arrive DOA or if you try to have a halfway decent stock on hand they are dead by a few weeks after you get them. Someone needs to invent a rechargeable battery here.

Sleep deprivation CURED!!!     On: 2008-02-28

Our dog has had a problem with howling for years. He would howl at 4:30 to 5:00 am every morning (weekends and holidays included). Recently, he was ill and began howling every hour at night. As much as we hated to use a shock collar for the fear of harming him, the sleep deprivation drove us to purchase this collar. On the first night, the collar fired three times within a few minutes. It was a miracle, my dog stopped howling, and we all slept through the entire night. He looked completely happy and fine the next morning and did not appear to be harmed by the collar. We left the collar on for a few more nights, the problem was completely extinguished until my kids fed him the wrong food. When we tried to use the collar again, it stopped working after several minutes. We thought it was the battery so we replaced the batteries, but the unit still did not work. We think that the unit burned out after multiple discharges. Since we generally do not keep receipts, we are unable to exchange it under the warranty. All together, we had the unit for three weeks. Luckily, the conditioned response to stop howling remained, and we are all able to sleep now. We bought an extra collar for future use-just in case. This collar is worth every penny.
A deterrent but not a real trainer- NOT waterproof     On: 2007-01-07

We have a young dog that is an excessive barker. We bought the collar to keep her from disturbing our neighbors and frankly, us.
The collar is bulky and has two prongs which need skin contact to work properly.
Her first experience with it surprised her and the initial shock was not painful. But the second and third consecutive barks really popped her and she immeditely started to whine so we took it off. We put it back on a few minutes later and she barked again twice. That is really all she needed to understand that this was the end of the barking without consequence. As long as we had it on her (because she wisely associated the collar with not being allowed to bark) it worked.
The problems:
It is NOT waterproof and the danger of having this on your dog during a walk in the drizzle or through wet grass, etc is not made important enough in the instructions. Ellie got a real shock when she bounced in a puddle during a quick walk outside one day. It really scared us!
The batteries only last about 2 months and they are specific to the collar. They are quite expensive.
This never trained her not to bark without the collar. She will bark loudly once because the first shock is so minimal that she feels like it is worth it- but she does not bark twice. Also, as soon as we take it off in the outdoors our indoors she starts barking again. And she is not a super smart dog- just smart enough to associate the collar with no barking. Also, if the battery goes dead while she has it on and she does not get a shock after the first bark she knows she is home free and can bark away.
The collar was bought in August and is now broken 6 months later. I never contacted Petsafe but the pet store we bought it from will not take it back. However, we have decided to get another collar- the Innotek BC-200 Professional Microline No bark Collar because it is waterproof and it has rechargeable batteries.
As long as the collar is on and working I would say this type of collar is quite effective.
