WARNING MY DOG HAD TO HAVE SURGERY BECAUSE OF THE KNIT MATERIAL     On: 2008-11-25

Our dog chewed the knit fabric and had to have surgery to remove it from his stomach and intestines! He was repeatedly throwing up blood so our vet took an x-ray, the fabric showed up as a compact blob in his stomach. After exploratory surgery our vet removed the mass of fibers from his stomach and the fibers had wound around his intestines. It cost us almost $1,000.00! Be very careful if your dog is a chewer or he could become very ill or DIE! We have trained and bred dogs for over 40 years and want our dogs to be comfortable but this is a potential DISASTER to YOUR DOG!.

This is a great product. I bought two beds for my [...] boxers and they love them. They are extremely easy to put together and equally as easy to clean. RECENTLY I PURCHASED A TOTAL OF TWENTY-THREE COOLAROO PET BEDS FOR OUR HUMANE SOCIETY ANIMAL SHELTER IN ALL THREE SIZES. THEY WERE AN INSTANT SUCCESS. THE FIRST ONE WE ASSEMBLED, (LARGE), WE GAVE TO AN OLDER GERMAN SHEPARD WHO WAS RECOVERING FROM AN INJURY. SHE HAD BEEN RESTLESS AND UNCOMFORTABLE ON A BLANKET ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR. WHEN WE GAVE HER THE BED, SHE SNIFFED IT, CLIMBED ON IT AND WENT TO SLEEP. SHE SEEMS TO BE RECOVERING FASTER, TOO. THESE BEDS ARE VERY EASY TO ASSEMBLE, WITH JUST FOUR SCREWS. THEY ARE ALSO VERY STURDY. THE FABRIC IS TOUGH BUT COMFORTABLE. THE KENNELS ARE CLEANED DAILY AND THE BEDS ARE EASILY MOVED AROUND. I AM ORDERING TWO COOLAROO BEDS FOR OUR OWN ADOPTED SHELTER DOGS.

We used to spoil our two dogs (an aussie mutt mix and a pit bull), by allowing them on all furniture etc....then, we decided it had to stop. Poor babies. Anyway, we saw the great reviews for these beds and ordered two mediums. Theyre the perfect size for our two girls. I think they were a bit scared of them at first, but have since decided they are their very own "furniture" and love lounging and sleeping on them. Our pit bull Lucy, loves to stand on hers while she eats out of her (already elevated!) dog bowl. Crazy mutts! Ill try to add a photo, but regardless, our dogs love these beds and I love that theyre easy to move and clean under...they seem extremely durable and are 100 PERCENT worth every penny paid!

I did not have any problems putting two of these together by myself and I am a small woman. Other posters mentioned that problem, but I just did not encounter it. The dogs were hesitant to try them out, although my six year old enjoyed lying on them, but once they finally got over their strange doggy fears (about 1 hour) they decided the beds were the place to be. They are now very happy sleeping on them and the clean up is a snap. I put a towel on the beds for extra comfort and then shake the towel outside and push the beds aside to sweep under them. All the dust falls through the mesh and is left under the bed for really quick sweeping. They are a great buy.
cut off the tag to prevent chewing     On: 2008-11-04

I did not think that my dog was a chewer so I thought that this bed would work for him. However, he became interested in the white coolaroo tag on one corner of the bed and chewed on that corner only. The bed is still usable. I cut off the rest of the tag as soon as I saw what was happening and that ended the chewing. My dog LOVES this bed. However, I suggest that you cut off the tag and you may stop any chewing before it starts!

Got this bed to replace one of the soft beds from a famous New England merchant. It has taken my Great Pyrenees about a month to really get accustomed to the new bed. The first two weeks I put the old one on top of the Coolaroo, so her scent would make it feel like "home". Now that she is used to a step up, she is great with it. Maggie is a small pyr at 65 pounds, so she fits nicely on the medium size bed (she sleeps all curled up).
Love the fact that the bed is elevated and I can clean under it with the vacuum. Ive given Maggie a small polartec throw, and she is happy with her new "digs".

My older dog Lucy likes to lay in her coolaroo. It keeps her off the hard patio and keeps her cooler on hot summer days. The fabric is easy to clean with a water hose.

If you have a stubborn dog like our Lucy, you may need to train your dog to lay on it. I put a shirt that I had just worn inside out on it and gave my dog a treat to lay on it. After that I removed the shirt and she would lay on it by herself.

After reading many reviews my husband and I decided to purchase this bed for our "CRAZY" 5 Year-Old Weimeraner, Kyler. We have had him spoiled since day 1. He used to sleep in a recliner until he starting digging at the recliner before he would lay down. Eventually stuffing and foam was coming out of the recliner. I was so tired of ALWAYS picking up stuffing everywhere. Amazing at how much stuffing is in those chairs!!! After putting the bed together Kyler seems to loves it. Since it is cold at night in the house I did put a blanket over the bed to give Kyler more warmth but in the summer the bed will help him stay nice and cool. Great Bed and Great Price!!!

We adopted a 10 year old lab that has arthritis, so I knew we had to get him something comfy to lay on. We seen other similiar type beds for $80+. Then I spotted this one and read reviews and thought to give it a try. Well he loves it! Hes a big guy, a big lab mix and weighs 70lbs. Its big enough for him and he sleeps sound in it every night! And when hes outside for long time I take it outside so he doesnt have to lay on the hard ground. We highly recommend it!

As soon as this was put together which was extremely easy, my dog jumped right on it. She seemed to know it was for her. She hangs out on it all the time. She loves it so much I actually bring it in at night and put her bed on top of it and she sleeps all night on it. Great product!
Best Pet Bed Ever     On: 2008-10-15

The Coolaroo Large Pet Bed has been a great find for me and my dogs. I own a mix Australian Shepherd and Border Collie who is about 12 years old and just getting signs of arthritis and a 5 year old Miniature Pinscher. When the bed arrived it took about 20 minutes to assemble because of the posts having to stretch the fabric, but that is just the nature of a cot type bed. After assembly I put the bed out and put a towel on top of being that it is Fall here in Sacramento. Initially, only the Min Pin took to the bed and snuggled quickly into the towels. I was scared that Austin, the mix breed, would not take to the bed, as he shunned all beds in the past, but that night I caught him and the Min Pin sleeping peacefully before I went to bed. They now sleep in the bed at all hours of the day, but Austin will still sleep on the ground at times, you know what they say about old dogs, but it seems they really like the bed. As far as the Coolaroo itself, it seems to be made very sturdily and the price seems to be right for the materials, but Im sure any enterprising individual could go to a hardware store and build something about the same quality, nonetheless the dogs appear to like it and what pleases the dogs pleases me.
I highly recommend this bed for anyone who needs a clean, comfortable bed for an aging dog or any one who wants to give their pet a comfortable place to sleep.

We have 5 dogs, and over the years have tried numerous beds. Our old, arthritic, 95# Doberman needs to have a bed when outside, but our younger Doberman insits on chewing EVERY kind of bed we have purchased. Until we found the Coolaroo. We purchased the Med sized bed, on which our Border Collie puppy and younger Dobe love to snuggle. But for the older, larger Dobe, the Medium size was just a little too small. I just ordered her the Large size. All of the dogs seem very comfortable on the Coolaroo, and best of all the younger Dobe has not tried to chew on it, it just doesnt seem to interest his chewing senses!! A great dog bed, very reasonable price, easy to assemble, sturdy. I doubt Ill buy another type of dog bed again!

We purchased the first coolaroo bed about 5 years ago, and our dog still uses it. We got a second pup and he wanted to share the bed with his "brother" so it was time for us to get another coolaroo.
Both beds stay outdoors all year long.
With the first bed, the material has lasted for five years in the rain, sun and snow and it has not weathered or dried out.
My husband has re-painted the black metal frame for the first time this year, other than that no maintenance needed.

Well built and easy to put together, although you will need an extra pair of hands to help fit the last piece in place (the directions do tell you this). It keeps your dog off of the ground, or in our case, off of the concrete when they are laying down outside. We went a step further and put a dog mat from LL Bean on top to make it a bit more comfortable. If you live in an area with fleas, you may want to skip the extra mat. The mat stretches out after some use to give your dog a hammock-like feel. I think your dog will like the bed!

My dog absolutely loves this and took to it immediately. The only issue is that she is a large dog (doberman) and the middle is starting to sag since it doesnt have any mid-section support. It also took a bit of time to put together in terms of getting everything lined up correctly. However, with that said, for the price I will definitely purchase another when this one wears out. We are currently using it on our deck. I originally purchased it in the hopes of giving her a place of her own, so she would not sit on our patio cushions - and its worked. Overall a good deal for the price.

I wanted my Black Lab off the floor and on a cooler surface other than our carpet. He loves the Coolaroo but I do have to put a light quilt on them (bought one for Family Room and one for Bedroom) because he slips and slides on the original surface. Or maybe he is just too spoiled. I have two great danes, 150 lbs each, and they just LOVE to chew and shred things. I was sick of having pillow foam, filling materials, and shreds all over the house, that came from regular pillows, blankets, and dog cushions. Thats why I bought two of these beds and both of the dogs just love them! I cant get them out of the beds, but then again, who would like to get out of a hammock?
Easiest cleanup ever! I dont have to wash or deodorize anything, no worries about fleas or ticks, no sticks or dirt getting stuck in them. All I do every now and again is stand them up for a minute and sweep the dirt, dander, and hair out from underneath them. (Id imagine this would be GREAT for allergy sufferers!) You dont even really have to hose them down. They DONT smell or look dirty, even after a muddy dog lays in them.
This has to be the most sturdy dog bed ever. After a year of owning the beds now, I have only had to re-tighten the screws once, and the covers are a bit saggy, but Im sure my dogs would concur they are just broken in well. Even at 150 lbs each laying on them every night, all night, for a year straight, they are not torn, frayed, worn, or broken... They are not even chewed upon....
And the best part: No more having to clean up shredded pillow remains!!!

I would recommend this product to any one with any dog, any time! We live in a desert and even at 110 degrees, the dogs can stay cool because they are off the floor. Especially at this price (less than half of an XL cusion or dog bed) it just cant be beat! I use them inside and out, summer and winter (in the winter I throw an old bath-rug on them to keep the draft out from beneath the mesh), on trips and everything. Even if the mesh should wear out at some point (still hasnt in a year of abuse), itll be even cheaper to replace! I havent been able to find a better product for a better price yet anywhere!

It was what I was looking for, I live on an Island that has a lot of bugs so it keeps my dog off the ground... Just beware, the medium size bed is way too large for an small- medium . Small will fit a pincher, chihuahua, or up to a 20 pound pet. Not too easy to assemble.

I wish I wouldve thought to purchase this sooner. My older boxer used to lay on the hot concrete and would get little burn marks. Now that he and his little sister have their own coolaroo, I know that theyll stay cool and burn free. This is a great product and I would definitely recommend it.

I purchased 2 of these for my German Shepherd/Lab mix pups. The were easy to put together, but I havent put them outside yet. They look sturdy enough and will be easy to spray off. One of the beds showed up out of the box within the mailing box and the mesh part of one was a little torn on one corner. Im going to write the company and see if they will replace. In the mean time, Im afraid that my teething 7 month old pups will be encouraged to chew on the mesh. They are constantly chewing and it doesnt look like the mesh could take it. It would be destroyed immediately. Ive got to give it a little time before introducing them to their new beds.

We have two, 4 year old coolaroos that were always used outside and they are as in good of condition as the new one I just bought. This is our third coolaroo, we found a sweet little mix-breed dog and she needed her own space. These bed are great for indood use too, with the hot summers in Florida everyone moves in. They are so easy to keep clean. Add a little fleece blanket and they will sleep thru anything!!!! Many of my friends own these beds too [Coolaroo Large Pet Bed green with black frame]. I think they are the best and will give you your moneys worth for many years.

my puppy loves it!     On: 2008-09-10

I had bought my puppy a round cushiony bed and the Coolaroo Pet Bed. When place them side by side he always prefers the Coolaroo Pet Bed. I think he likes that it is elevated and that he can stretch out on it when he sleeps.

Assembly was fast and easy. The weight is relatively light so I can easily move it around the house and indoors/outdoors. The construction is rugged. The frame is all steel. The fabric is a tough burlap/canvas like material that seems like it would last for many years. I place a blanket on top of the bed so my puppy is not against the slightly rough material.

Great value, get it, your pet will thank you. BTW, I got mine from a major pet retailer for almost ten dollars cheaper than what amazon is selling it here. It was the last one in the store so maybe they were clearing out inventory, oh and it was in tan fabric with brown frame but exact same manufacturer and model.

I bought the medium for my 60-lg. basset hound based on its 65-lb. rating. The first night she slept in it, the fabric stretched out so much that she was essentially laying on the floor. Not exactly functional if you follow the recommended weight limits.

I received this product and was happy with the design and quality. It does take two people to put together, but it was pretty easy and quick. However, my 4 yr. old Lab/Boxer mix is very uneasy and has ignored it. When I first introduced it to her, she tentatively got up on it, but it was as if she were trying to walk on a water bed. I encouraged her, gave her treats, even took her old bed out. She chose the floor. About the third time she attempted to get on it, the rubber padded feet squeaked a bit on our hard-wood floor, and that was it. She is normally not that afraid of things, and when she was smaller, her favorite snoozing spot was an ottoman, so I thought she would love this. Now, because I dont want to pay shipping to send it back, Ill give it away or sell it in a garage sale.

This bed is fine for my mini dachshunds, but I am not quite sure it would be sturdy enough for a large dog. It is easy to clean, and was relatively easy to put together. The dogs like it, but only when a blanket or pillow is placed on top of it.

My GSD loves her coolero cot! It has plenty of room for her, keeps her up off the ground outside & in. The only problem I have had so far is the taut fit of the material makes it sit out of kilter if you do not take precautions to make it level. However, I believe this is necessary since the fabric will most likely stretch a bit in time with use. I am totally sold. I have not, of course, used the replacement cover yet, but purchased based on some of the reviews I read prior to purchase regarding durability. I totally disagree with the reviews about dogs destroying them in nothing flat. My dog is no princess, believe me, and she has not left her mark on it yet - she has not tried chewing it though. Based on the countless indestructible items I have seen my own dog destroy, I dont believe anything is indestructibly when aggressively chewed, so I do not think behavior problems should be held against the product maker as some of the other reviews have indicated. I would highly recommend this to any pet owner (dog or cat).

This is great bed for the money- I am very happy with this purchase! My dog hasnt tried it out yet (just got it today); but Im sure hell love it once he gets around to it. I tested it out myself and it was very comfortable!
It was also very easy to put together. Ive read reviews describing difficulty in putting it together, specifically that the cover was too tight. These people simply didnt understand/follow the directions. The frame is held together with 4 screws- just keep all 4 screws loose until theyre all in place- this allows the frame to move (pivot) and the fourth screw will go in easily- then you push the frame into position (I did this by sitting on it) and tighten the 4 screws. It was very easy and only took a few minutes!

I have three indoor dogs I got the large bed. I threw a blanket on it they all get on together very roomy. Keeps them off my sofa while I am asleep. Would recommend this item. Easy to put together.

I ordered 3 large beds. I was looking for an off the ground bed to use outdoors in my kennel area. One of my dogs is older and I didnt want her laying on concrete during the day while I am at work and she is in the kennel. I was also looking for a bed that didnt lay on the ground where it would become soiled if someone had an accident or if it was exposed to weather. This bed style worked nicely.
Im happy with the purchase. The dogs love the beds and readily used them.
The beds were bigger than I planned so I had to adjust things to make them all fit. Also, my youngest dog has started "chewing" on the fabric of one bed in the corner area which is free from metal backing so she is able to be destructive there. So far, even with the damage that bed is holding up well.

This bed is a great addition to any household with a pet. It is especially good for dogs who spend more than a few minutes outside. This bed allows them to enjoy their outdoor surroundings without having to lay on hot/cold/damp ground. My dogs love it! The only drawback is that naught "teenage" pups can tear the cover if they dig at it for very long.

We have two lab mix puppies, one is 55# (22" height), the other is 40# (19" height). I wish someone had added heights of their dogs in their reviews, it would have been such a huge help! The medium is more than adequate for both dogs. They also have wicked nails, but are the length they are supposed to be, and they did not poke into the cover.
The bed was easy to put together with just one person. Not sure why other people have had problems, but they were done in a snap, and the dogs took to them immediately.
We kept the two large instead of sending them back and are using them in the basement/outdoors. I have ordered additional beds for inside to put their beds on, to get them off the floor. Beds that have fleece or a suede like finish on the bottom, these will not slide on the cover, other material will require a non-slip grip material placed between the cot cover and the bed to keep it from sliding.
Just in case, additional bed covers were purchased at the same time.

We are thrilled with these beds, and the dogs seem very happy also! I cannot wait for the others to arrive!

My 55# was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia at 5 months of age, so her bedding is very important, and we use the same for the younger dog as well. They are 15 mo, and 9 mo. old right now. Both were severely abused dogs that we adopted at 5mo and 6 mo. old.

This is one of our best investments!

I have 3 of these beds for my dogs and rescue dogs. They are easy to clean and the dogs love to put a blanket on top and hang out. I broke one and found out you can order every part individually through Grace Pacific/Coolaroo. I have a more expensive bed that I thought was better made. It had plastic corners and when the dog chewed it they told me they dont replace parts. Now the velco is coming of and I can find the exact size of pvc pipe they used to make it. On the other hand Coolaroo has given me great customer service and their simple design has held up to an excellent standard. I would reccommend buying a size bigger than the weight limit if your dog is close too because it will start sagging quickly and you will have to replace the cover when it hits the floor.
Good quality, difficult to assemble, and not for everydog     On: 2008-07-25

The bed is extremely difficult to assemble even for two people working together. The bed quality is very good and after we finished it it looked great and sturdy. However, our dog--famous for his taste for sofas, beds, and chairs--does not stay on the bed more than 2 minutes even when he jumped on it with confidence right after we put it together. We are thinking about donate it to the local shelter.

I purchased this dog bed for the first time last year. I have a Great Dane and expected it to last a few months, if that. Over a year later I bought another one through Amazon.

I cannot believe how well this bed has held up! The first one was out on our porch (the "mud room.") The Dane leaps upon it with our Seeing Eye trainee in hot pursuit, and then both will curl up and sleep on it. Our new one is in the house, where our Dane will take naps or the dogs bounce off before I can remind them of "indoor play!"

This product has been a terrific value for the price, has withstood more weight than I anticipated, and you can bet I will be buying another for a different room.

Fantastic bed for any dog! My dog loves it. Easy to clean and put together. The metal got a bit rusty in the joint areas after a bit, but I bought another after my hubby threw it away. Well see how this one fares....nice to know that you can buy replacement covers. Did not know that with the forst one.

I have two Italian Greyhounds who love to lounge in the sun. I got terribly tired of moving their "inside" beds in and out, often forgetting them and having them wind up getting rained on, etc. Tired of washing their fabric beds for the 100th time, I purchased this bed as a permanent outside solution, and I couldnt be more pleased. Both dogs can share this medium sized bed (they are <20 lbs. each) with room to stretch out. In the month weve had it, I havent had to do anything to it. The mesh fabric stays clean and it dries in a flash if it gets wet. The frame and fabric appear plenty sturdy for my two dogs, who together weigh just under 40 lbs. Assembly is very easy--my three year old even helped.

My dog only need to be enticed a couple of times to use the bed...sometimes we put his soft cloth bed on top, but he always sleeps on the Coolaroo. It is easier to clean under and around the bed now that is higher off the floor and he dries a lot faster after his swim. I had my son put the bed together with no problems.

Have had the coolaroo for over two weeks. Larz from Mars, the sunbathing mutt, seems happy. My other dog, hotblooded and furry, likes to lounge underneath the coolaroo periodically. I like that it is lightweight and easy to reposition. My moms dog likes Larz coolaroo so well that weve had to order one for her too.

My 75 lbs retriever mix loves it. You have to wrestle with it a bit during assembly, and once it is together it will twist a little until you set it on the ground. it is almost as if it is designed to use the ground as a cross-brace. For the ultimate in canine lap of luxury, i put his other, smaller, poly-fill dog bed on top of the Coolaroo. When he lies on that, he drifts off into lala land more quickly than peter in that silly pan.

Many reviews about this bed were right on ... great concept and dog loved it. It was not that hard to put together but it did help to have 2 people. While the quality was good, I need to let others know that it is not one of those indestructible beds. We have a nearly year old shepherd/husky mix that is also new to us. Great dog but is still finding things to destroy from time to time. What seemed to happen with the bed is when he jumped on it, his nails could work through the material and that gave him a great place to begin the destruction. The first night was quite productive for him as by morning he had several holes ranging in diameter from 2 inches to 5 inches. This produced a hazard as we were then concerned about injury from legs falling through the holes and such. He also discovered the exposed corners that made some great chewing as well. Before buying, make sure your dog is passed the destructive stage. We have returned the item and hopefully will get a refund from Amazon.

Well made, sturdy, easy to assemble. My cats love it, especially in the summer without any pad over it so they get the benefit of a "Belly Breeze". In winter, I throw one of their kitty beds on it and they are off of the drafty floor. Easy to clean.

My 11 1/2 year old German Shepherd loves this bed. We got it to take to a kennel if we ever needed to because of his back problems, but have been using it at home. He is super picky and has a painfully fused lower spine and we werent sure if he would like the Coolaroo, but he loves it. He must find it comfortable, because completely unlike himself, hell sometimes go lay on it in the middle of the day even though it is in our dining room - usually he lays on our bed. Good price for what seems to be a comfortable product for our dog. I agree with other reviews that it can be tricky to assemble, but it didnt take more than 15 minutes in the end. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable and comfortable bed for their pet. I only wish it folded in half for easy moving and storage. Great find.

I was pleased with this product. It was easy to put together and made of strong durable material. The only problem I had was when my dog 80lbs got on the bed and it sunk a little bit it scared him! We have not been able to get him back on. My smaller dog 15lbs loves laying on it! It was supposed to be for my big dog but the smaller took over. I would highly recommend this bed unless you have a dog who scares easily.

We have had our 100 lb shepherd cross using this bed for 5 years now, and there is no sign of wear. When we first bought it, I was unimpressed by its lightness and apparent flimsiness, so we also bought a much more expensive Petmate bed. Within 2 months the expensive bed was seriously damaged, but the Coolaroo is still going strong. I recently bought another one for another room, and a smaller one for our terriers. The great thing about these beds, especially for a large, hairy dog, is that they are really cool, and they conform comfortably to the dogs shape. I just purchased this dog bed on eBay. Im always skeptical because my 4 dogs are extremely destructive and dont take to new things very well. I can honestly say this is the best purchase I have made for my dogs in years. The construction is sturdy and all you need to put it together is a screw driver. Its so easy to assemble, it takes about 3 minutes.

As soon as I put the Coolaroo bed outside on my porch, they were ALL over it. They absolutely love it. I actually bought another just a few minutes ago so that they would all be able to enjoy it, one isnt enough for 4 dogs. Its definitely a good size for one large dog and I believe it will truly support 150 lbs as the company claims.

I think this dog bed is a must for people who love their dogs. It keeps them off the ground, away from bugs, dirt, etc. I also think older pets will truly benefit from this bed. I would imagine laying on the hard ground would be painful for dogs and other animals with arthritis and joint pain. This will help alleviate their pain by keeping them from laying on the ground and putting pressure on those painful spots. Also, this dog bed is definitely a plus for hot weather, keeping them cool. Its a mesh material so air flows freely under the bed and cools from the bottom as well. Both summer and winter are times to keep the pets off the ground and comfy.

If your dog is resistant to this bed at first, try to coax them on it and reward them with praise and a treat. They will know its a good thing if you spend a little time with them. Eventually, they will adore this bed like my 4 dogs do and youll wonder why you didnt buy one sooner.

Each one came in its own small box but were then packed by Amazon in separate boxes large enough to hold ten Coolaroos apiece. I have a 65lb pitbull and a 60lb lab-sheppard mix. They are indoor dogs, however when its nice outside, we leave them out during the day while we are at work. They dont lay on it too much when we are home, but I can tell they lay on it while were gone. Its holding up well, easy to put together, and the best part is they havent destoyed it!!!! I have a 50lb beautiful Vizsla, and bought this for her as her outside bed. As soon as I set it up and put it outside, she went right over and laid down. The medium fits her perfectly! I have to wait and watch how well it lasts, but it was extremely easy to assemble (using the tricks some folks posted in their reviews). It took me and my husband a total of 7-8 mins to assemble.
It looks pretty good and the fabric seems really breathable and easily washable.. I might end up getting another one if this one turns out well.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that I paid almost $42 for it including shipping (from entirelypets on amazon) whereas I see it being listed for $32 with super saver shipping now.
Its still a great buy though from the look and feel of it so far.

I did alot of reading before purchasing an elevated dog bed. I purchased 2 coolaroos and 2 coleman beds. The coolaroos were easily put together except one of the screws did not screw into the pole. Once together they are sturdy on the ground. My greyhounds love them. The coleman beds have not arrived yet. For the price, I would reccommend a coolaroo. I have 2 large beds and may buy a couple more.

This is my second Coolaroo bed and my dog LOVES it. The only reason I replaced the first one was that she had worn it out after about 4 years. She is a nester and likes to dig in her bed while she adjusts her blankets, so she eventually put quite a few holes in the old one.

We have had large and medium sized Coolaroos out in our dog run for several years now. They are the perfect solution for your dogs comfort outdoors. The dogs love them and it keeps them off the wet, cold concrete. As long as you dont have a puppy that wants to chew, this product will last a long time out in the elements. Our puppy chewed ours, but what can you expect...he was chewing everything. Now he is out of that phase and is leaving the Coolaroo alone (except to sleep in it!).

In response to some previous reviews, you can find replacement covers for these beds at several other online merchants if you just spend a minute or two searching. Admittedly, these beds are a little tough to get the last bolt in place. That is the point though- the mesh fabric initially has to be very tight. As soon as the dog lays in the bed for the first time, the fabric loosens a bit and it is perfect.

I purchased this bed for a large dog at an animal shelter I volenteer for. (The dog was nursing a leg injury and i wanted to get him off the cold concrete floor)
The next day I arrived at the shelter and found the bed chewed and uselessly broken. I contacted the company only to find , they do not sell replacements for the hammock part of the bed. ONLY hardware pieces.
Sadly, I had to throw away the bed and the dog no longer had one.
I do not recommend this bed for a shelter situation or a dog that has a chewing tendancy.

After reading all the reviews for this product I was pretty sure this was what I needed. I have to agree that the material is pretty resistant as I have a Great Dan and a Weimaraner and both of them manage to get on the bed together and even play over it ( both together weight over 200 pounds). Other than this the rest was disapointing , it was probablly bad luck , but I think the cloth is just to small for the frame or I received a medium cloth for with a large frame...what ever the reason is, it was extremely hard to get the frame in even with help it was really hard..... After strugling for a while we were fianlly able to do it with an oufull result , the bed ended up with diamond kind of shape instead of a rectangle as it should... I guess it is die to the tightness , also if you attempt to move it and it has no weight on , two of its legs will jump up , and you will need at least two persons to put them back to the ground without having the other two legs also going up. Beleive me we tried setting it up in all posible ways and the result was always the bed with a completly un even diamond kind of shape.... Again the only positive thing abou this bed is the resitant cloth.

My 2 dogs are 40 and 50 pounds. One is a dalmatian the other is a doberman mix and they fit well on the beds. If you have a dog that likes to spread out though, go with a bigger bed. I do put an blanket on top for extra cushion and warmth but during the summer we will forgo the blanket.
They are sturdy and well made and I would definitely buy them again for the price. They are much less pricey then other elevated dog beds and, in my opinion, hold up well.

We have a female Boxer of about 50 lbs. The size of the bed is perfect for her, even if she got big and fat. She took a couple of days to get used to having to step up onto it, and was not sure of her footing to do her circle before laying down. But with treats and positive praise, after a couple of days she soon, began to do the usual circle on it before she laid down.
We are very pleased with this, as it can be hosed off to clean, or soap and water with a hand brush. No more sticking Yukky dog beds in my washing machine, that used to gross me out so much.

We have used the bed for two years, but have to replace the entire item when it is worn out because we cant find a provider for just the cover. the cost of the bed isnt bad, but it goes against the grain to have to throw the complete bed away when all that is needed is a cover. We have an older dog with hip problems and prefers a soft area to lie down. With a cusion he tends to get hot (especially in the summer). Having him elevated allows air flow, and the material is flexible but tight enough for him to walk on to find his position. After first assembly, it felt a little flims and twisted around a bit, but once on the floor it worked great. We bought an additional one for our other dog as well.

Took two people to put together because the mesh was so tight fitting. The dogs enjoy it but I noticed a small hole in the mesh, makes me wonder how long it will hold up. We purchased this bed for our rottweiler. She loves the bed. The first night she slept all night on it. We set it up in our room at the foot of the bed. Its perfect. Comfy and sturdy. Even our little ones laid down on it. Daisy, our rottie, had ACL surgery and has flattened femur heads, so she has issues with her legs and hips. She actually sighed when she first laid on the bed. These are GREAT pet beds! - We have one for each of our two Labradors and they just love em! BTW, there IS a subtle trick to assembling them; i.e., you MUST keep ALL bolts loose right up to the final one that connects the second of the two spreader bars to the leg frames. When youre ready to insert the last bolt, situate the bed so that only three legs touch the floor and, then, LEFT THAT LAST LEG UP ABOUT SIX INCHES - JUST ENOUGH TO RELIEVE THE STRESS IN THE COOLAROO FABRIC!!! Then wiggle that LAST bolt through the leg frame into the crossbar and tighten it JUST enough to hold the entire assembly together. FINALLY, using a couple of phone books or someones "spare foot", keep the corner diagonal to the one with the last bolt you just "wiggled" into place DOWN ON THE FLOOR and s.t.r.e.t.c.h. the cover taut by forcing the LAST LEG DOWN onto the floor and into proper alignment with the other three legs! ... NOW! - TIGHTEN ALL THE BOLTS! ... Simple, huh?

After assembly, one of the legs popped up and the bed was in a twisted shape. After straightening out with the help of another person, I tried to tighten the bolts more to hold the frame in horizontal shape, but it twists up again. The combination of the fabric tension and the fact that frame pieces do not have a locking mechanism, makes it hard to keep the pieces in place just by tightening.

I think the dog beds are just okay. I bought two. One works well, but the other has collapsed a few times. My dogs dont weigh much, so Im not sure why they arent working-theyre exactly the same. I dont think Id buy them again, just because I cant be sure it wont happen again.
A Trick To Assembling THIS Pet Bed ...     On: 2007-12-06

Ive assembled three of these puppies (Pun Intended!) so far, and, right at the end of the job, theres a trick ya gotta do! ... FIRST! - verify that EACH and EVERY bolt is loose enough to warp the frame slightly; i.e., with a phone book or someones foot (!) on ONE of the corners, lift UP the DIAGONALLY-OPPOSITE corner JUST enough to align the (final) bolt hole in the cross member with the (final) bolt hole in the support frame!!!

Then, just thread the LAST remaining bolt through and tighten it just a little! ... FINALLY, PUSH ALL four corners down onto the floor and into alignment - use MORE phone books or ONE of your remaining "free" arms! ... THEN finish tightening up ALL the bolts!

PLEASE NOTE THAT, when you align ALL four legs evenly on the floor, the fabric tightens up considerably! CONVERSELY, lifting ONE of the legs up allows the fabric to slacken just enough to line up that final bolt! Trying to assemble this thing with all four legs "in the same plane" of alignment down on the floor is an exercise in futility AND utter frustration!

I have 2 of these beds the large and medium for my two dogs. The large Ive had for a few years and is starting to sag with my 80 lb. plus golden retriever that uses it but just ordered a replacement for the cover from comforthouse.com. They sell the replacement covers for them so you dont have to buy the whole bed again. I love these beds and so do my dogs. For the winter I bring the bed into our garage and put the fleece looking beds they make for kennels which also come in different sizes and they fit perfectly on top of these beds which make it warmer for them!

Unfortunately, we received a defective dog bed. We have had this bed for our previous dog, and loved it. We recommend assembling with 2 people, it is too hard to do by yourself. My sister has 6 dogs and 6 of these beds, she has tried other brands and loves the Coolaroo bed the best.

We cant say enough good things about the Coolaroo bed! Our black lab has taken every bed that we ever bought her out the doggie door into the dog pen and proceeded to chew it up once she had shaken it to death. We were lucky if each bed we purchased lasted for 48 hours. We had been through several beds and wasted lots of money until we purchased the Coolaroo bed. She cant move this bed out the doggie door and chew it up -- its great! Initially our dog was a little hesitant about climbing onto it but once she figured it out, we havent been able to get her off it. She sleeps in our garage year round so it keeps her up off the floor. It cleans easily -- we just wash the cover with dog shampoo (we even use flea shampoo periodically), rinse it well and it air dries quickly in the sunshine. We bought a replacement cover this summer after our dog used the initial one for a year and the frame is still in excellent condition. We plan to be long time customers of the Coolaroo bed and recommend it to all of our friends!

Ive bought 5 of these. Two small, two Med and one LG. The two small and two Med are great. They are a little challenging to put together which is a good thing. It means the middle wont sag fast.

Very sturdy. Quality materials. No problems with assembly. Had to spend two days coaxing our 16 month-old, 55 lb. Leopard Dog onto the bed (she would give me that look asking if Id lost my mind). Finally convinced her to give it a try when I put her pad on top. Now, she wont sleep anywhere else. She used to get up frequently to change position on her orthopaedic pad - with the Coolaroo she sleeps through the night. Also keeps her pad from scooting across the floor so that the room looks neater (and makes for easier vacuuming - one hand to move the bed instead of dragging her pad back and forth). Would purchase her a replacement in a heartbeat, but cant imagine this one wearing out. Also, the large is the perfect size for her. Lots of stretching-out room, but not oversized.

My 8-year-old chow/golden retriever mix has arthritis in her hips and knees. She is still very mobile and does get around well. She just tires out easily. I had heard that these cots were good for dogs - especially dogs with joint ailments. I ordered this one (since you cant find one at any of the local pet stores) specifically because it had a metal frame. I made sure to check the weight requirements and size too. The shipping was very fast - surprisingly fast. The assembly was very simple. My dog was a bit wary of the cot and would not get on it. I finally moved it close to an exterior wall in her area and I put an old spread on it. I even got on it myself to try and lure her onto it. Later that evening we found her sleeping peacefully on her cot. She seemed to stay in one position and slept with little disturbance. No more watching her dig a hole and toss and turn to try and get comfortable. Now she truly is comfortable thanks to this wonderful cot. The price was reasonable and I am happy to see my sweet dog comfortable at last. Thank you for a wonderful product!

I purchased the large sized coolaroo from Amazon for my 75 lb. yellow lab. It is plenty big for him and perhaps a little too big since our apartment has limited space. The metal support rods extend past the dimensions of the bed which makes it take up more room than a normal pillow-style dog bed. However, this may not be an issue if you are using it outside or in a bigger space.

Overall, I am pleased with the bed. My dog took a few weeks to get used to it, but now he sleeps on it pretty regularly. We put a blanket on top of the green mesh and he seems to like that better than without it.

FYI, last time I checked it was cheaper at Walmart than online.

I bought 2 large cooloroos ( an Xlg was not offered). I have 2 dogs. A 12 year old shepherd that is 110 pounds and a german shorthair that is 65 pounds. My shepherd is in the late stages of dysplashia. The Coolaroo would be great for him if it was 4 to 6 inches longer. Unfortunately his hips hit the bar on oneside and his shoulders hit the bar on the other.
My German Shorthair loves it, it is the perfect size for him and he loves having 2 beds to switch back and forth.
For now the Shepherd will stay on his memory foam bed. I was hoping these beds would keep both dogs up off the carpet and offer them comfort.

Keeps the surface of the bed a few inches off the dirty floor, or off the ground if bed is outdoors. The only thing that touches the floor/earth are 4 legs, so the bed stays clean. Frame is so strong its easy to quickly move the bed even if your dog is in it (depending on the size of your dog and/or your strengh of course). For extra comfort, a pillow stays put on the canvas-like surface of the dog bed because of the slight dip between the framing members. My dog loves being able to get in the bed from any direction, and being able to really stretch out since there arent any walls. He also feels safe being above the floor. Very easy to assemble. Just takes a minute or two. Tip for assembly: dont tighten the 4 bolts too much so the bed can level itself on an uneven floor. The frame is very sturdy and strong and painted very well. The Coolaroo material is very durable, and doesnt soak up odors, and is a nice neutral color. It can be cleaned outside with a garden hose. The bed is nice looking and doesnt call attention to itself. The smallest size is perfect for even a chihuahua. Leaves a little dog plenty of room to stretch out. Its also easy to get through doorways, as I move his bed around from room to room because he likes to stay near me. (They do have larger sizes than the one I bought.) This bed left me not wanting for any better bed. Its perfect. The fact that it stays clean because it keeps the bed surface off the floor too me is the best feature. It eliminates a lot of the dirtiness associated with having a house dog. (Now is someone would sell a little dog dinner table thats off the floor. Presently I use a piece of granite tile on top of a piece of plywood.) I selected this bed very carefully and shopped everywhere for one. I feel like I made the best choice. I highly recommend it.

This is the second Coolaroo bed my 100 # Samoyed mix has had (cover tore on the first one after being punctured by a rock). We live in Hawaii where it is hot and humid, a tough climate for a very furry creature, and the Coolaroo keeps her up off the cement and more comfortable. The poles were hard to adjust to make the bed lay flat, but with a second person helping me, it worked out fine. It is the perfect size for my Lhasa Apso who is the larger of the small breeds. Dogs longer than a Lhasa should probably get the medium.

Once it was outside in the rain, and when I picked it up, red water ran out of it. The screws must of rusted in trapped water. yuck.

Regardless, I cannot get my dog to use it. Ive put it in her favorite spots in the yard, by the gate, under the tree, next to the porch, and she will lay right beside it but not on it. Ive put her on it and given her treats, even put it inside by the couch, she doesnt get it or doesnt like it. So, while it may be a good product, it doesnt work for her!

The dogs bed arrived a week ago and has served both my GSDs well. I have a puppy and a 3 year old and so far, they are enjoying it. It was fairly easy to set up. It arrived when expected and appears to be well constructed. It is a good alternative to the traditional pet beds that sit on the floor. I purchased this bed because I like the idea of being able to hose it off and its pest prevention. I would definately recommend this cot.

We saw the Cool a Roo at a local pet store being used by some dogs. They seemed SO comfortable. We went home and found it at Amazon.com. Our beloved Boxer Deuce was diagnosed with terminal cancer the day after I ordered it. He was uncomfortable and not resting. The CoolaRoo came in and i set it up for him. He instantly climbed up on it and looked relaxed for the first time since he got sick. He slept on the Cool a Roo EVERY night for 3 weeks till he passed away. After having purchased a similar bed from Petsmart, we realized the bed support was a wooden cardboard insert. Since we used the bed outside, the insert quickly became rotted and we had to throw the whole bed away.

The Coolaroo Pet Bed is just perfect for our dogs. We have 2 small dogs who can both fit on the medium bed and they love how it feels. We love that it keeps them off the ground and allows the rain to pass right through it.

It is also manufactured in such a way that the support beams adjust to conform to the shape of the ground. Since our backyard is not level in most spots, this feature is very helpful and prevents tipping or rocking of any sort.

First of all, I broke a sweat trying to put this stupid thing together by myself. A word of advice...Get someone to help you! I dont know how much itll help, but it was extremely FRUSTRATING going it alone. It took me forever because I couldnt get the thing to stay together. My dogs and I absoulutely love the Coolaroo beds. I have a doberman (80lbs), a lab mix (80 lbs) and a Rottweiler (135 lbs). The doberman and lab love the coolaroo. My dog loves this bed and it is a fabulous bed for the price, HOWEVER, the wrong size cover was included in the box so we called the company and finally got the correct size cover shipped to us 3 weeks later and once we got the cover it was VERY DIFFICULT to put the last part of the cover on. It took both my husband and I working together to get the last part of the bed together because the cover is so tight.

I bought this for our constantly shedding and quite smelly lab as an alternative to a "traditional" dog bed that required washing once a week and replacing every couple months. We LOVE it...and so does our pooch. It was simple to put together and is giant (we got the large and it is LARGE!) Our dog likes it because she thinks it is a doggie couch, off the ground, keeps her cool and we throw a towel on it so she has some padding and snuggle material. These beds were purchased for a Doberman rescue group in Clairton, PA. They fit the kennels perfectly, are large enough for an 80-110 lb. dog and keep the dogs up off the floor. My 13 year old arthritic hound loves his Coolaroo bed so much that I bought him a second one for inside the house. I put his old pillow-type dog bed on top of the indoor Coolaroo, and he sleeps very comfortably. I assume the sling-type bedding takes some of the pressure off of his sore joints. This is a pretty big bed, and its not beautiful to look at, but it makes him happy. Im giving 4 stars because the Coolaroo can be hard to put together. (When its new out of the box the fabric is VERY tight, so you have to sort of twist the pieces together.)

Overall the bed is great, it is pretty easy to assemble/disassemble with 4 screws. However, the reason I give it 4 stars is because of 2 reasons: 1) my dog (a 6 month Labrador puppy) was able to get at the edge of the material and chew a corner apart although the bed is still able to hold her weight and still works and 2) the frame may bend a bit and warp a bit at the point where the screws go in because the material is so tight the bed sort of twists until weight is put on it to level the bed down on all 4 legs. We brought our bed with us camping, and I sprayed the bed down with a hose to clean it and it dried in the sun within minutes. Overall I recommend this bed, as my problems may have been just with my bed and my dog.

I will say I did get them cheaper elsewhere online. I bought 4 mediums and 2 smalls for my kennel. The dogs love them now they know what they are for..lol. I should of bought a couple for the house, so thats my next purchase.

For the person complaining about how hard they are to put together..My husband assembled 6 of these with no issues. The key, follow directions. It says to assemble on the flat on the floor. My husband had an issue with the first one, it was tweaked.. So I read the directions and he did it the way they said and the rest were no problem at all.

These are also very tough and the mesh is tough and nice and tight as well. AND you cannot beat the price!! I also like that you can get replacement covers for them..Just have to "search"..

I wanted an outside bed to try and keep my Dalmatian from laying in the dirt. This was fairly easy to put together and she seems to like laying on it. Its nice that it keeps them up off the ground--cool and clean. Matrials used seem like they will hold up well over time outside. I suggest getting the larger size if youre not sure. I have a small Dalmatian and the large size bed is plenty big enough. Enough room for her to stretch out or curl up without hanging off the side.

Four years ago, our 95 pound Siberian Husky was having terrible skin problems around his "elbows" and he was occasionally pestered by fleas. Since purchasing this bed, his skin has cleared up and we no longer have to treat him for fleas at all. We did replace the cover 2 years ago, and every once in a while we have to remember to tighten the screws, but aside from those minor maintenance issues, we love this bed! It is also lightweight enough to carry around from place to place easily (he likes to be near us all the time) and has rubber tips suitable for indoor floors. Cant say enough about it!

At first my pomeranian hated this, but now he likes it so Im updating my initial bad review - I put a small cushy crate pad on top to make it more comfortable for him, but still keep the cooling properties of the bed (I use it indoors only since I live in an apartment); I found it somewhat difficult to assemble (I guess my friend who assembled it didnt read the entire instructions about assembling it on the floor like someone mentioned here and I also didnt see where the instructions said to do that), but now Im satisfied with this item and the price was lower than it is now when I bought it, so it was definitely a good buy for the money.

Its not as durable as I had hoped for. My basset and my beagle absolutely loved lying on it, but my beagle loved it more as a new chew toy. It didnt last a month. I did discipline him when I caught him chewing on it and I sprayed it with Apple Bitter (dog chewing deterrent spray), which did not preserve the life of the Pet Bed. Also, I tried to register the warranty on-line that proved frustrating and unsuccessful. Now I will try to order a re-placement fabric and pray this time around I get lucky with the ordering through the company and with my destructive beagle.

This ped bed is just as it is described, and assembly is very easy. Its all high quality. However, neither my English Springer nor my black Labrador Retriever will lay on it. Ive gotten them to sit on there, but they wont go on it by themselves, ever. Theyd rather sit on the ground or dig a hole in the dirt. The canvas holds water, so its not a good idea for outdoor use.

I just got this in the mail the other day - it was so easy to assemble and I love it! After contemplating whether to order the medium or the small since I have 3 small dogs, I decided on the small - and it is the perfect size for all 3 of my chihuahuas to lounge on without taking up too much space in my backyard. I placed it out in the sun and they each climbed on and sunbathed. Seems very durable and like it will be so easy to clean. My 120 lb. lab has used this bed during his outside time every day for over two years. I am replacing it now because he has managed to wear a small hole into the center of the material. No bother, I am more than happy to spend another $25.00 for a replacement, I spend much more for his indoor beds that hardly last a year. No complaints about the structural sturdiness either, we havent had any problems at all. He can lie comfortably, with a bit of room left over if he wants to really stretch out, although his feet tend to dangle over the sides a bit when he does. We live in a hot climate and my dog would rather lie on this bed than any other shady spot of the yard. One of my favorite things about this bed is that is cleans so easily, just hose it off and let dry. Every few weeks I go over it with a soft brush and some soap - cleans beautifully!

We have two large pet beds for my 75 lb. dalmation and 120 lb. lab. My dogs love them! They stay fairly clean because the dirt/dust sifts right through the loose weave in the fabric which also allows the air to circulate and the dogs stay cooler. I keep them on my carport and when it rains and the water runs in on the concrete floor, the raised bed and dogs stay dry and comfortable. I have just adopted a new stray mother dog and plan to keep her and one of her pups. I ordered 2 additional Coolaroos for them today. A great product - wish Id thought of it first!

I have two of these for my two fairly large dogs (80 lb. Lab, 75 lb. Vizsla). The dogs love them, they have used them daily for ~5 years now and the frame and fabric material show no signs of wear. Occasionally you need to tighten the screws holding the frame together, but not more than once or twice a year. I have another dog and will buy another Coolaroo Dog bed for her, once I figure out which size is appropriate.

Its cheap, light weight and very durable. I bought the large Coolaroo pet bed last summer for my 70 lb. weimaraner. We have since adopted a second weimaraner and they both love the bed- in fact, often times I walk out and they are both asleep on it (good thing I bought the large one!) There are a couple of chew holes in the corners but the rest of the fabric has not been compromised. It takes about 5 minutes to put together and requires the occasional tightening of the screws but thats it. Ive left it outside on our back deck since I bought it and its still in great shape. For $25-$30, the value cant be beat.

The coolaroo pet bed worked well for my pet when we went camping. Our dog slept on it during the day and the bugs, ants and dirt stayed off her. It was hot in the mountains and the bed did seem to keep her cool. I bought the bed for camping so I cant comment on home use. I would recommend it.
