I read all the reviews about broken handles and bought this scoop anyway. Im glad I did because its the best litter box scoop Ive ever used. I have six cats and scoop four litter boxes daily, sometimes more than once. Yes, yesterday the handle finally broke off! But after using it for more than a year, Im getting another one today because, for the price, its well worth it and still the best one out there. On: 2008-05-06
I had this scoop, too, for all of a week. The handle snapped in mid-scoop at the point where the metal reinforcement ends. (The screen with two sizes was great.) Later found a scoop of all stainless construction that will outlast the cats, Im sure. On: 2008-04-07
Its not a shovel. I broke two trying to push it through 3-4 inches of clumping litter. I love the grate, it gets bits the others cant. Metal blade cleans the bottom of the pan nicely. On: 2008-03-23
I have six litter boxes and this scoop works really well especially at getting the smaller clumps. The only flaw is a weak handle. Even though I have broken several, I still recommend it. I hope the manufacturer re designs the handle. On: 2008-03-20
Perhaps the best scooper for cat litter on the market! All others are inferior compared to this one! On: 2007-11-07
The cheap plastic scoops tend to break, this one is metal and very substantial... wont break under heavy use (3 cats!). On: 2007-05-14
This product works just as described. The litter is cleaner and scooping takes less time. On: 2007-04-24
It is a strong product, but it is greater than I have supposed. Unfortunately, it is very large to my cat litter box...Maybe it would be good when you have more than one cat at home and a big cat litter box too. On: 2007-03-10
I purchased the new scooper with high expectations and like others it cracked under the weight of scooping. It has now been replaced. I have never spent so much on a scooper only to have it fail. Perhaps a redesign for more support-

I was so excited that the scooper was so big and it looked like it wouldnt make my hand ache either (I have a bad wrist), so I got a big scoop of litter the first time I used it, and I heard a snap.
Welp.. the first time I used it, I cracked the handle all the way up. I have kittens, so its not like their litter is extra heavy, but if you fill the scoop up with solid (dirty) kitty litter, it cant handle the weight. Im very disappointed. Im still able to use it, but I have to be careful not to pick up as much or else the handle will break all the way. On: 2007-01-18
Great product with nice LONG handle and two sizes of mesh in scoop. Wish the mesh in the front (toward the outer edge) was a little "finer," but works very well ----- MUCH better than traditional ones sold in stores. On: 2007-01-15
So far I am enjoying using it--HA. It is working well for me. I have not had it long enough to have the problems other mentioned of the handle breaking. I have different scoops for all my different boxes. On: 2007-01-15
This is a big scoop; could be the reason some people have trouble with the handle breaking. Its front-heavy. But if youll place your hand right at the base of the scoop when you use it, the handle doesnt break. AND, the edge of the scoop is sharp enough to really clean off the bottom of the litter box - I havent seen another scoop that does that. On: 2007-01-14
I looked for a better scoopable-litter scoop for ages at our local stores and finally happened onto this at Amazon several months ago. It is substantially sized at about 14"l X 5"w The depth at the back of the scoop is 3" and no light weight at a about 1 lb.
I was a little shocked at the pricetag for a litter scoop so I bought one to try. I spent several month comparing it to the other two litterboxes I have. It really did keep the litter on which I used it in much better condition than the other boxes with the "usual" and inexpensive scoops. I bought two more recently and now have one at each litter box.
For me they are a bit awkward to manage, but I have small hands and my litterboxes are located in places where scooping is at awkward angles. I read other reviews that didnt like the metal strip and getting into corners. My experience has been the opposite. This strip and its edge gets into the corners better than my old plastic ones where Id use the handle to dig out litter.
While using one of my newer ones, I heard it crack. I believe I was trying to scoop too much too quickly. It hasnt broken in any obvious way and Im still using it.
Neither of those reasons, since I believe they are user issues, is the reason I gave it four stars. The reason I have it at four instead of five is because it tends to be messy after scooping. The screens are installed between two layers of plastic. While scooping, the litter gets into the little gaps and, inevitably, comes out when Im putting the scoop away. With four cats, the tracking is bad enough. So more litter scattered by the scoop is frustrating.
All that said, Ill buy again without hesitation. Although the way theyre built, itll be because Ive added cats and litterboxes not because the scoop needs to be replaced!

Like concept of smaller holes in the front of the scoop to catch small stuff but is hard to manage. I am used to a smaller scoop. Harder to clean corners with this scoop. Ended up using both. On: 2006-11-14
This is the best scoop that Ive ever used. It does an excellent job of sifting out the little bits as well as the big pieces and has a very generous scoop size so you can get a lot done quickly. The metal edge on the front of the scoop is very useful for scraping, but does get clogged and needs rinsing now and again - yuk. Very sturdy, I cant imagine how others have broken them, unless they were trying to use the metal edge to press things that werent meant to be pressed. I only with it had one additional layer of fine sifting available. On: 2006-11-13

I LOVE the Scoopwell. Ive never had one break, and Ive been using them twice daily (5 cats) for nearly 2 years. I find it helpful if you choke up on the handle a bit. Im cying now - because they seem not to be currently available!!!! On: 2006-10-16
I scoop up buried treasures from my two cats everyday. This scoop is a great tool with two different sized mesh screens for sifting, a metal scraper edge, and a nice long handle with a comfortable grip.
The only problem is, the handle broke off after about 10 months use. Still, its a a great scooper and Im going to buy a replacement until I find something better. Hopefully before 10 months! On: 2006-10-08
My handle broke after about 4 months.
There is a lot to like about this scoop. I particularly like the way the screen is smaller at the front of the scoop to make it easier to remove smaller clumps. However, I do think that improvements need to be made to strengthen the handle. In a world of two dollar disposable scoops, if you are going top pay for a decent scoop, it should last. On: 2006-10-07

While I do like the longer handle, the quality of the scooping is not much better than my inexpensive plastic scoops. I do use it, but am not sure it was worth the extra bucks. On: 2006-09-14
I agree with one of your readers. I have 8 Cats and i had purchased 2 of them a couple of months ago, But both of the two i had purchased Snapped, or broken in half. Should be made of Stainless Steel instead of plastic to add more strength. by: Anonymous On: 2006-08-24
Great scoop...but handle is way too long and the scoop itself is way too big. Fine if you are taking your dog for a walk and consideratly clean up after him...but for a cats sand box...way too large...keep all the elements of the scoop, but it needs to be downsized!!!!! On: 2006-08-24
Scoopwell is the best scoop Ive ever used because it picks up even the tiniest pieces. Unfortunately my handle snapped off last night after only five months. Maybe five months is considered a long time in the scoop world but I think its too soon for what it cost (I paid more at another site which is why Im purchasing this one at Amazon). Yes, Im even surprising myself by getting another but it really is the best. If the design hasnt changed to make the handle stronger Ill just use it as a second scoop for the fine tuning and leave the initial scooping to a metal scoop. On: 2006-08-15
I like having the choice of hole size...larger holes for bigger pieces and smaller holes for smaller pieces. The smaller pieces can be scooped and held in front of the Scoop; in this way, they do not fall through the larger holes that are at the back of the scoop. The blade at the edge goes through the litter with ease, and the size of the scoop holds quite a bit. Great product...Im glad I bought it! On: 2006-03-18
We had been looking for a litter box scoop for some time that would pick up "ALL" of the used litter. With a three cat household it was important to keep the litter box clean on a daily basis. This scoop does the trick! Apart from cleaning the litter box completely, it is quite study with a long handle. (On a final side note: We were unable to locate this scoop at any of our local pet stores, and for a surprise bonus, the Amazon price was lower than the typical Ebay selling price!) On: 2006-03-16
I have five cats and scoop their litterboxes twice a day. After trying at least ten different kinds of scoops, I thought I finally found the perfect scoop in Scoopwell. Unfortunately, it apparently is not strong enough for our household because the handle broke off when I tried to scrape some dried-on litter off the litterbox. Ive only had it for a little over 4 months. Ive broken many a scoops and hoped this wouldnt happen with Scoopwell. Wish they made them of 100% metal, so they wouldnt break on me. On: 2006-02-05
I have 4 cats of my own, and I also foster cats from the local humane society, so I am very particular about litter scoops that work well and dont break easily. I ordered 2 Scoopwells and I must say that I am impressed. The scoop is sturdy and well-constructed, and it does an excellent job. I will be telling my friends at the cat shelter about it!
