  Innotek LAP DOG TRAINER By: Innotek Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 22 More Information The best of what's out there  On: 2008-11-19This collar did exactly what it advertised it would do, and is extremely effective in curbing a pets behavior. The only cons would be the price, and the fact that you cannot safely leave the collar on the pet for more than about 8 to 10 hours. The only reason I would put that under a con is that when trying to curb behavior that doesnt happen on a consistent or regular basis, running to get the collar set up isnt always an option. It would be nice if it could be a semi-permanent collar for the pet, so training can be more consistent. Despite that, its a high quality product and I would highly recommend it over any other brand. Works well 5' from dog.  On: 2008-10-30If you want to stand next to the dog to give corrections; then this trainer is for you. If, however, you wish to correct behaviors from a distance greater than 5 then you might want to research another unit. I will say this positive. When the transmitter and receiver do communicate, this is an excellent training tool. Great Product!  On: 2008-09-24ok, so the batteries dont last very long, but you can get them for pretty cheap at walmart. This thing worked great for my dog. It was enough to get his attention, but not enough to hurt him. After about the first three days, I only had to use the bad tone to correct him. If you are sick of annoying barking, and bad behavior, I would recommend getting this collar. HMMM... On: 2008-08-22Worked well for our 20 lb. Jack Russell. We still had to get a high voltage electric wire to keep him from jumping our 6 foot fence. However, he no longer BOLTS out of the front door. My dog barked at everything. On: 2008-08-13It works great. My Maltese barked at everything. After using the word no and a mild shock he has stopped barking. Even when someone comes to the door. All I have to tell him is no and he stops barking. The secret with the batteries is at night when he sleeps turn the collar off. I only have to put the collar on him about once a week. Most of the time I dont have to shock him. I just have to use the bad tone. Again great product and arrived on time. Just right this time....... On: 2008-08-13I reordered this trainer after determining the Petsafe "small dog" trainer I received was too big and bulky for my 12# Chihuahua. This product is VERY well suited for a really small dog. Short on features found on the larger dog trainers, but quite adequate. No quick release buckle, but still easily removed. Fits snugly against neck since the collar strap goes AROUND it. Good overall design, apparently good tech support from manufacturer. . Doh! Dummy me! First training use directed at using the #1 (shock) setting. I inadvertantly held the transmitter upside down and pressed the #4 (highest) control setting. My poor dog went a foot straight up with a yelp. (**Hanging head in shame**) Future training postponed till tomorrow. I can tell ya it works. Nuisance barking eliminated On: 2008-07-16Our two small dogs used to bark incessantly at squirrels, birds, cars, when guests arrived, when the doorbell rang, every time they went outside -- which is at least 10 times a day, and so on. We wanted to be able to take our dogs on vacations with us but knew their barking would be a problem. A friend recommended the Innotek Lap Dog Trainer. One dog responded immediately to the mildest sensation, the other did not respond at any of the sensation levels. I thought it was broken and checked to see if it was delivering sensation and discovered that it was not. I called customer service and was politely, warmly, clearly, and correctly guided through resolution. This was one of the most positive customer service experiences I have had in years!! Apparently the one device had been set up with a delay from the time the button was pressed to the time the sensation was delivered. I learned how to set up the device so that the sensation would be delivered immediately. Once corrected, the device worked immediately on our dog, again at the lowest sensation levels. It took only a few days and the incidence of incessant barking was eliminated. The dogs still bark at squirrels, doorbells,etc but it is no longer incessant. We have only had the collars about 3 weeks, but they were so effective that we often do not even put the collars on the dogs. We now say, "shhh, no bark" and they usually stop. Neither dog appeared to be upset by the training, we successfully took them on vacation with us, and frazzled nerves from listening to the former barking has been eliminated. The Innotek Lap Dog Trainer far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this product to anyone with small dogs where incessant barking is a problem. works like a charm... On: 2008-04-21My territorial chihuahua chases down anyone walking in front of our home, barking like a rabid mutt. That is, she USED TO... Level 1 she never feels, but level 2 is perfect -- she doesnt cry out or yelp -- just stops her improper behavior. I wish I would have gotten this ages ago. P.S. Mutttmart had the best price around for this item. This works! On: 2008-03-22I have a dog with a barking problem. With this collar, he has learned it is not "appropriate" in the house.... Yes, I would recommend to any one needing to get a little fellas attention. Good with consistent use On: 2008-02-22I have seen some results with this although I know I have to be more consistent with it. I thought I could leave it on and that would help me use it more but it has those two prongs and I feel bad leaving it on her . Also, it needs to be turned off to save the life of the battery. I think I would use it more if I could leave it on. So far my Yorkie will come when I call her and weve practiced in a big dog park..this is great imporovement for her..we still need work..she can pretty stubborn. Jumping On: 2008-02-08Ordered this product to try and stop our small size dog from jumping on people when they come to visit. Works well, only need to use the sound correction most of the time and now just having the remote in my hand he will stop. Batteries dont last long only problem. Did the trick On: 2008-02-08We have a rat terrier, Tinkerbelle, with a great spirit but little self control. We tried this collar as a last resort and have been very happy. We only had to use the shock for a day and then the sound was enough. We dont even put the collar on anymore - we just keep it in the living room so that Tinkerbelle can hear the sound. Sometimes, Tinkerbelle attacks our other dog. She is very territorial. In the past, nothing would prevent the attacks. I would have to grab her and risk being bitten. The collar actually made her stop attacking. Every once in a while she will appear to be in attack mode and we just have to show her the collar and make the sound. She backs down right away. Great dog training tool! On: 2008-01-26Only needed to use this a couple of times for my dog to behave. I never needed to go over 3 on the correction stimulus. My dog never vocalized anything during the stimulus just looked around like something was touching her. I would rather use my voice and the word "NO" instead of the bad tone. I thought I could do it ... On: 2008-01-23If you do not mind zapping your dog - this is a great product. But, my puggle puppy just broke my heart with the way that she reacted that I just could not continue to use this. The batteries died almost instantly. She cowered in the corner any time I wanted to put this collar on her and it just seemed to change her personality overnight. Overall - I hated this and for a dog lover- I just can not recommend it. For someone who doesnt mind a dog screeching ... it is probably just what you are looking for. DON'T BUY THIS!!  On: 2007-12-31Dont buy this product! I bought it and used it just twice: once on level 1 and once on level 2(It goes up to level 4). It left 2 burn marks where the probes touched my dogs fur. On: 2007-12-08i was a little skepical but thought i would give it a try. it WORKS! 8 month old responded beautifully ... only had to use progressive twice ... he now responds to tone only (good and bad). im very pleased with progress. Even though she is still young, she has been very belligerent with obedience training. I trained my Labrador with an electronic collar as well with fantastic results and I was so delighted to find this collar that is specifically designed for lap dogs and small dogs in general. I had no idea there was a collar for dogs this small and I didnt even look for a long time just assuming nobody made one. This has really been a colossal find. The collar is well made and very user friendly. If I had to make one complaint it would be that the transmit range could be a little further than it is. I find that she gets a little "out of bounds" and sometimes I am too far away from her. So if you are used to collars for large dogs, this unit does not nearly have that kind of range and doesnt need to for obvious reasons but I wouldnt mind a few more yards. All and all I highly recommend this product. It has the praise tone and discipline tone as well if you are timid with the electrical aspect. Our Dachshund responds quite well to just the tone 90% of the time. We are slowly reversing bad behavior and teaching her new things with ease now. As with most dogs conditioned by electronic collars, she simply responds to having the collar on her even if I dont actually use it her behavior is better. On: 2007-10-18I bought this for my 9-pound, 10-month-old chiuhuahua, who likes to eat poop and run after squirrels across traffic. I always had to keep him on a leash to keep him safe, but now having used this collar for about 2 weeks, he now can be off his leash and comes when I call him almost ALL of the time. I think maybe being off of his leash and free to run around the yard will help him to lose weight. He is sure a CHUB! Average  On: 2007-10-05I got the lapdog trainer because my puppy is a shihtzu/maltese. After using for a few days I felt that the unit may have been inconsistent and that over time and much use the remote could possible wear and break as it is made of thin plastic and need one that is more durable and will last a long time. Worked like a charm! On: 2007-09-05I was hesitant to buy this at 1st, but with a baby in the horizon I had to change my 8month old yorkie-poos behavior of jumping on everyone and everything. I tried every single method prior to this and this was the last resort. I seen results with in hours. I dont use it anymore cause the jumping has stop. A+ product.. Please use this product only for the purpose of training your dog. Excellent effective adjustable training aid On: 2007-07-22Our headstrong, stubborn, rescue rat terrier - responded wonderfully to this product. The different levels of shock have a good range for the most sensitive dog to pretty darn stubborn. I strapped it under my forearm and tested the levels to check the sensation before putting it on our incessant barker, yapper, jumper and newly self appointed pack leader. Level 1) felt like putting your tongue on a 9V battery as a kid everyone did that right? , 2 felt like a sharp pin prick, 3) hurts and feels like a shock, 4) is quite painful - as in OMG make it stop! Our little fella responded to level 2 without a fuss or a yelp and after a few experiences of it - responds to the "bad tone" as a warning and ceases the undesired, barking, yapping and nipping our other well behaved dogs. In 2 days he was like a new, well behaved dog - without losing any of his sparkle. Highly recommended over the no bark automatic collars - to break stubborn habits. The range of the remote to the collar is very good. The dvd enclosed with the product recommends this for teaching basic commands - I feel it is a bit over the top - buy a clicker and train basic commands by positive re-enforcement, this will build a better relationship between you and your dog. But if your dog is putting itself in danger or your neighbors are complaining about barking - this is an excellent device for new behavior. Great collar On: 2007-03-08This is the second lap dog trainer weve purchased and they work great. I even wish they could make them a little smaller and a light that indicates when the batteries are low. But, all in all....great. |
