Very dissapointed     On: 2009-01-01

I had high hopes for this collar. Its working fine, I can feel the stimulation when I tried it on myself, and the automatic beep tones are telling me that it fits ME just fine. But I cant get it to fit on our dog properly at all. I must have tried 100 times and only once did it indicate that it had proper connection. She never received any stimulation from it at all. And its not like shes an odd breed with a weird shaped neck! Shes a shepherd mix. I think that in their attempt to streamline the device it somehow made it more limited as to the size and shape of the dogs neck where it will fit properly. I even called the company and the representative was very helpful, many suggestions - none of which worked. I thinned out the hair on her neck too. So its going back to MuttMart, the Amazon affiliate that sold it to me. Ill leave feedback on them when I see that the return is processed and Im refunded. Im off to buy a different model from a local store so that I can return it more easily if it also fails to work with my dog.
Very effective trainer     On: 2008-12-22

I liked thid training collar because it is easy to use, durable, and very effective. The range is at least 300 yards in good conditions, but may be less in a very hilly of heavily wooded area. The tone signal was as effective as the electric shock after a couple of days. It is small, especially the handheld controller, yet powerful enough for most dogs. Good product that performs as well as the manufacturer clains it does.
A Big Joke!     On: 2008-09-19

Bought this thing a few weeks ago. It is a big disappointment, and I will return it!

My dog runs away with the collar on, and I even put this as high as 7 out of 9 and no reaction whatsoever. It is as if my dog was wearing absoultely nothing. Save yourself the $190 and pass on this lemon!
So far, so GREAT!     On: 2008-09-16

This is new to me. We got a new puppy, after losing our 12 year old dream dog. Bottom line, after 1.5 days, this thing is amazing!
Truly an attention grabber and it seems that is all she needs. She was either semi-deaf or had grown deaf to my voice. Doesnt matter anymore! Im being very careful to use this as a training tool and to not spook or carelessly abuse the power of the shock. It is working great!
Most importantly she is beginning to respect the wife and 10 year old boy. Instead of me yelling, and them yelling, we are now calmly controlling and/or redirecting.
This is more of a testimony to the power and ease of use of the shock collar. Make sure you are a tempered person as you could easily damage a dog if used carelessly.
As far as this particular unit? I know no different but it seems to have all the features that anyone would need. It is easy to use. Oh yeah, the transmitter did not work upon arrival. I contacted the company and spoke to a knowledgeable (lifetime free (I think)) tech support person that determined a new transmitter should be sent. I received the new transmitter and the unit works perfectly.
I would highly recommend this unit and this company.
Works like it is supossed to. Safe and adjustable     On: 2008-08-04

This collar is more forgiving to the animal than most other collars. You set a level for the remote. The dog sets the level for the collar by how much he/she barks. Our pet adjusted to the new behavior in two weeks. I have my collar for sale now as we are happy with the results.
Innotek Review     On: 2008-07-17

Great product. If there is anything that could be improved, it would be that if it isnt in use, it shuts off too quickly. It was great at first but as the dog gets better, it doesnt get used as much and then shuts off.
How did you do that?     On: 2008-07-11

We have had great success with the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer. Our bullheaded Bulldog has only experienced two corrections preceded by the tone to correct behaviors he has stubbornly held onto for two years. The tone is all that is necessary now to remind him that certain behaviors are unacceptable. He instantly stops the behavior with only the tone and those behaviors are far less frequent than in the past. They have all but been completely eliminated.

The product itself is well made and durable. The collar is very stiff, thick rubber but fits well and is easily adjusted. The remote buttons are quite small or maybe I just have big fingers. The rechargeable battery, in the collar, does not last as long as stated in the manual(100 hrs) but does last several days of intermittent use and is easily recharged. I agree with all the comments regarding the remote battery compartment not being very user friendly. Overall, however, Im pleased with the performance of the Innotek Remote Trainer and would recommend it as being an effective training aid.

My title above?...That was the look on his face after receiving his first behavior correction. Wished I had a camera.
If it sounds too good to be true..     On: 2008-05-19

I purchased the Ultrasmart collar because of 2 claims - 1) it was contoured and comfortable for the pet; and 2) it had a "right fit indicator" that clicked to let you know the collar was fitting correctly. I have never been able to get the collar to "click." It apparently does not fit correctly. There are lights on the unit to indicate the collar status, but when the collar in on the dog, you cannot see the lights, so they are of no use. Over the course of one week I spent several hours trying to get the collar on the dog and working, to no avail. It is now the most expensive item in my junk drawer.
Inconsistent performance     On: 2008-05-13

For the price, this did not work consistently. For it even to work the collar had to be very very tight - almost choking the dog. The correction also did not seem to be consistent with the level - sometimes the dog would not even react to a high level and other times she would react to a low level.
I Returned This Collar     On: 2008-05-13

The training tone was inaudible and even though the signal tester said the collar was working fine, my dog couldnt get any stimulation unless she was less than 3 feet away from me.
Remote training collar     On: 2008-05-05

This product works great. I have only used it 2 weeks and only had to warn not shock the dog.
Well worth the investment     On: 2008-04-28

We adopted a 7 month old dog that had been thru 5 homes. She was very intelligent, but had serious behavior problems. We tried several training techniques with her, everything from reward only, to pennies in a can, squirt bottles of water, newspapers, you name it, we tried it. They make cartoons out of some of the things we tried. Some things she learned by rewards and praise and sheer persistence on our part. Other things she absolutely refused to obey. She knew what we wanted but she stubbornly refused. The one issue in particular we couldnt break her of was to bully our other dog, who was in her teens and didnt deserve to be bullied. The new dog saw competition so she went after it. Also, we needed some way to control her outdoors.

We finally resorted to the Innotek collar, and the results were absolutely amazing. She immediately responded to it, and most of the time we only use the sound button. This collar stops her dead in her tracks if shes about to leave the yard or bully our other dog. Were working on weaning her from the need to use it.

This collar works. It does have a couple of downsides, however. Its difficult to put on her, very stiff and hard to adjust if shes not sitting totally still. She figured out very quickly that if shes not wearing it, she can go back to bad behaviors, so it will take awhile to get her to that happy place where she doesnt ever need it. The little screw to replace the battery is tiny and not very user friendly. It is one of the least bulky of the collars of this type, which is one of the reasons we chose it.

Would I recommend this collar? You betcha! It helped us take a problem dog that had been dumped at the dog pound twice in her life, who had been thru five different homes, and turn her into member of our family for life.
Excellent product     On: 2008-04-18

Ive had two of these collars for more than two years. I use them almost every day. My dogs do everything with the collars, including swimming. The collars are incredibly durable, both my collars have gouges and scratches.

If you follow the training instructions you will very good results with training. Both my dogs were off leash trained in under 2 weeks. Remember though, this is not a punishment device.

My only complaint is the remote, its too small. With gloves (winter time) on you cannot push just one button.

I originally tried the two dog system, forget about that. You need one remote per dog, you cannot stimulate both dogs at the same time with the two dog system. This is useful when the dogs take off after something at the same time.
Works Very Well!     On: 2008-04-17

We have a 1 year old Beagle/Boston Terrier Mix, and she loves to take off when she sees other people or animals. After we put the collar on her a couple times, we can just give the warning tone and she stops what shes doing. Also, with having the Beagle nose, she is constantly sniffing things that she shouldnt, and now we dont have anymore problems. We were worried about the battery life, but we havent had a problem. We only put the collar on when necessary, and turn it off as soon as we are done using it. Overall, it worked very well for us, it was well worth the money!
the best money I ever spent!     On: 2008-04-10

I buy a lot of things from Amazon and seldom feel compelled to write a review. I am so delighted with the results of this product that I had to review it. We have tried for 9 months, since adopting our eighteen month old Golden, to stop him from counter-surfing and jumping on guests. It was no fun to have people over because of his awful behavior, even though he is a sweet dog. I tried everything, reading books, consulting trainers, leashes, etc. etc. This collar stopped both behaviors IN ONE DAY and he only had to receive one correction!!! Now we only use the tone and he stops whatever hes doing. If your dog is trained to an invisible fence, I think the connection of the tone and the stimulation is made more quickly. I am so thrilled that we bought this collar. We had company and served food all weekend and he never jumped or counter-surfed once!! It is a new life for us with him. All our guests enjoyed being around him and praised his good behavior which has never happened. Now we are going to use it on our other Golden for excessive barking in the yard. I encourage other dog owners to try this for resolving problem behaviors. I am so glad I gave it a try

Well-made product, works as advertised!     On: 2008-01-04

Although weve been using the Innotek Ultrasmart collar and remote for only a week, were well pleased with the ease of setup and the way it works. We prefer taking our dog without her leash on our walks through the woods trails. Hopefully, the Ultrasmart will keep her from turning that occasional deaf ear to our commands in order to dash off down the road to visit the neighbors! Innotek customer support is awesome . . . they answered an email question almost immediately!
Saved Jake's life!!     On: 2008-01-01

My most recent gift is Jake, a beautiful blue eyed Siberian Husky. We hit it off immediately with only one problem. If Jake ever got off the leash he was gone with the wind for about 30 minutes, smiling back at me and wanting me to play chase. I talked to owners of 3 other Siberians and a Malamute and they all had the same experience. These dogs have to "run the wild out" and then they are ready to behave. I came close to losing him to oncoming traffic before I got desperate, researched, and bought this kit. I have only had to use stimulation 3 times (level 3 then 2, had to trim his fur where collar contacts b/c VERY thick fur, also I can stand level 4 on bare leg without divulging too much information) and Jake realised that I was serious when I told him to come back. Now we have great walks on leash to a big open field approx 1 mile from the house where I turn him loose and let the ponies run. He will return upon request and seldom wanders more than 100 ft before he finds an excuse to let me catch up. We both love our walks now. Watch the DVD because it really has some good steps to work through. Cust support will work with you. I wouldnt worry much about lightning knocking out the transformer as previously stated since the collars do not have transformers to knock out. This person was either trying to slam Innotek or perhaps entered their review for the wrong product. The CONTAIN AND TRAIN fence system DOES use a transformer and no, they will not warranty it unless you buy and install the grounding accessory. Always call the company and discuss the item before purchasing anything online.
This collar has turned the corner for Jake and I !

Perfect for us and Sasha     On: 2007-12-18

This is the first collar we bought after extensive research. We are thorougly pleased. We watched the video that came with it, and our dog responded so well with the training as presented on the video. We also use it for too much barking, although the video recommends a different product for continual barking. It was so important that our dog be well-trained (she is a fierce-looking black german shepherd) because we wanted others to be comfortable approaching her. (She is really a big baby and wouldnt hurt anything.) She has ceased jumping up on people, running after dogs, barking at anything going by, pulling us on walks, etc. You do have to invest the time to train as the video suggests. Our dog responded quickly. Definately worth the money.
Unbelievable!     On: 2007-11-28

This product has amazed both me and my wife. Within 2 days (2 walks with the collar) my dog has become a great walking companion, with NO leash! Amazing behavioral change and Ive probably used the shock feature twice. Since then, my dog has behaved wonderfully on our walks. He used to run off all the time as soon as he got off his leash, now he wont go more than 10-20 feet in front of me without stopping and checking with me.

One MAJOR benefit of this collar compared to the PetSafe and other Innotek collars is that it uses a Lithium Ion battery which doesnt develop a memory as much and charges within only 2-3 hours. Some of the other collars need to be charged 10-12 hours and dont have an automatic stop-charging feature, meaning you cant just charge and forget, you have to time the 12 hours and remove it at a certain time -- a MAJOR buzzkill.

Also, other collars that promise multiple-dog abilities (PetSafe) limit you to only certain features (i.e. each button becomes one function for one dog, you lose the ability for variable levels, tones, etc.). This collar has the ability to simply switch between collars 1 & 2 with a separate button, so you know which one you are controlling by simply looking at the collar.

Only drawback on this collar is the proprietary battery on the remote but the remote probably uses very little power and Im sure itll last a long time. An excellent product and WELL worth the price. Interface is extremely easy to handle, with a tone button, shock button, up/down level, switch collar (for 2 dogs) and a boost button which temporarily increases the shock for a tough situation.

I couldnt be happier with the quality and usefulness of this product, and plan to pick up another for my other dog when she is old enough.
Remote Collar for Dogs     On: 2007-11-15

I purchased this product after a previous Innoteck collar finally wore out after years of use. The added range of 300 yards is more than I need to keep my dog in the area without having to use a leash to walk her. The collar has an "Audiable Alert" feature that is what I use most often with my dog. I have only had to "zap" the dog with a very mild shock on two occasions to get her attention. Normally the Alert feature is all that I need to have the dog respond to my commands. I would recommend this product to any dog owner that wishes to have the freedom of having their dog "unleashed" but under your control at all times.
Unbelievable     On: 2007-10-05

Excellente service from the seller. The product is unbelievable; my beagle became a normal dog!!!! She wont run away any more, she does not jump to my guests, is incredible!!!! 180 turn
I recommend it 200 %!!!! Excellent product, indoors and out doors,

IUT-300     On: 2007-09-24

Bought this through Amazon and let it charge as indicated in the manual. However, when I went to use it, I noticed that it would not work more than 2 feet away.... far less than the claimed 300yds. Anyway, I called Innotek and they offered to replace the unit, with no hassel at all (and I got it within 3 days). So far, the new one works great. I have used it with my dog (Scout) for only two days and he now responds to the "tone only", which is great because I always feel back using the shock. Overall, good product. Gave it 4 stars due to my experience with the first unit.

The best collar ...for six months only.     On: 2007-08-28

This collar is the best collar out there. It is slim and it works. But...only for six months. I had to go out and buy this product twice. The first time we bought it, our German Shepherd understood the correction process. We use it about an hour a day on our dog. We turn it off while not in use and charge it when the light turns red.
But...after six months of owning the first one, the collar is on, and when we go to turn it off, the remote will not respond to the collar to turn it off. We even tried to change the battery on the remote and re-charge the collar. Still it will not connect. We decided to return it and get a new one. So worked it out with the retail store and bought a new one. Six months later, the same thing happen. The remote does not want to connect with the collar. So that is why I gave it a three star. It works great when it works, but then it just wont connect to the collar after that. For $200 I should hope that this product last me for years to come. My dog does not even swim with it on. She only wears it for a walk or run (one hour).

Remote trainer, good ideas, poor execution.     On: 2007-08-06

This trainer works ok. The transmitter is better than the two other Innotek ones that I have owned.
The part I dont care for is the collar. It has a clasp like a belt instead of the quick snap collars that they used to have and it is very stiff. I feel like it is almost choking the dog to put it on. Once on it is fine.
The other problem is that the LEDs on the collar are so dim that unless you are staring at the collar in low light you cannot tell if the collar has been activated or not (I have little high frequency hearing and cannot hear the beep).
The charger is nice, but it should include the transmitter, or what is the point?
My dog does not respond to it as well as the previous Innotek collar either.
Misleading     On: 2007-02-17

I am looking for a remote trainer for one of my dogs. Amazons listing says this Innotek trainer comes with a "lifetime warranty." Ive read that batteries can be an issue with remote training collars, so I decided to review the owners manual to learn more about the warranty.

[...]

The last page has a section entitled "Lifetime Limited Warranty," which states ". . . INNOTEK brand products will be free from defects in material and workmanship, under normal use, for a period of one year from the date of the original retail purchase."

The "lifetime warranty" apparently expires after one year!

Further on it says, the company "offers several product exchange options during the warranty period. . . . Costs are dependent on the processing time."

This suggests customers will incur fees for warranty repairs even during the one year "lifetime" warranty.

The next paragraph says "After one year from date of original retail purchase, we will repair, replace or upgrade your product at a
fixed rate based on the component."

What will these repairs cost?

This leaves me with a big question mark about buying a collar from Innotek. What, if anything, is warranted for a "lifetime?" If the lifetime warranty is really only for one year, why call it "lifetime?" And finally, what will repairs cost, both during warranty under their "product exchange options" and afterwards under their component-based "fixed rate?"

My specific concern is that the collar contains a rechargeable battery. The manual does not indicate that this battery is user-replaceable. Does this mean the user will have to send the collar to Innotek to replace the battery and, if so, what will it cost?

I have contacted Innotek through their website and will report back if I get a response. Until I do, Ive got to rate this product with only one star because of the warranty.

Can anyone comment on warranty claims to Innotek?

Innotech remote trainer     On: 2007-01-18

I have been happy with the Innotech remote training collar. My 9 mo old golden retrieve seems to be responding to it well. My primarily complaint is that the remote isnt rechargable like the collar is. The battery door on the remote isnt the friendliest design. I have already managed to break the tabs on it while changing the battery. The screw still holds the cover on; however, the remote can now no longer be considered very "waterproof".
Advanced Remoter Trainer     On: 2006-08-27

I have had an older TriTronics remote collar that came with a flashlight sized remote. I have had a TriTronics Sportsman 50 that came with a remote a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes. Both of those came with basically one button on the remote control. The IUT-300 has a remote little bigger than the average car remote. It also has 9 levels set from the remote as well as a tone only option and a boost button for dealing with strong distractions. With the purchase of another collar it can control two dogs. The collar is the lightest, slimmest one Ive seen on any trainer. A training DVD using escape, or avoidance, training is included. All components appear to be of high quality construction. In a large open field it easily met the claimed 300 yard range. Buildings and trees will of course cut the range considerably. Our 85lb mixed breed puppy is wearing it now to acclimate to it. In about a week I will show him what else it can do. I only gave it 4 stars because it comes in a cardboard box with no storage case or box. I put it in a small camera case but think the manufacturere could have at least included a zippered pouch. Based on my limited experience with the IUT-300 I think it should be an excellent choice for pet and companion dog owners that dont need greater range.

After six short training sessions over two days the puppy is controllable off the leash. He has taken off a couple of times but comes back when reminded he can still be corrected. He is far from trained but at least now he can get some exercise in the yard.

I had been trying for a couple years now to train my dog to stop barking at everything that passes by our house when she is outside. When I am not home and she is outside, which isnt often, she wears the automatic no bark collar but she still barked through the pain! This dog training system has fixed the problem after just a few times wearing it! I cannot believe I didnt buy it earlier! Well worth the money!

New religious collar!     On: 2005-08-18

What can I say about this collar? That it works, miracles.

Its one piece, instead of a box that hangs off of a regular nylon collar, ensuring contact. It also has a right fit test to make sure its doing its job. Its waterproof, even allowing the dog to swim with it on. No, on/off buttons on the collar itself, it turns on/off like a tv remote. Using the remote, which comes with a lanyard, you can be far from your dog, which is lets face it, when they tend to misbehave anyway.

There is 9 levels, and a boost that lets you up it by 2 for that moment. There is also a timeout safety feature in case you hold the button down for 10 seconds or longer. The best part is the tone button. The manual says you can use it for a reward or warning, just not the two. That would just confuse Fido. My dog learned quickly that the tone means a warning. That way, if I press that button, she acknowledges it, and stops the behavior straight away. This also means theres no correction after awhile, since the dog learns what comes after the tone. Unless you use it for a reward sound. Then I guess its more like clicker training.

So, why is it the new religious collar?
Because it makes a believer out of the dog. And, since the dog sees the behavior as getting a correction, and not you giving it, it seems to make training quicker. Because of course you dont want your dog afraid of you.

Now, I know there are people who think its inhumane to use a collar like this. Personally we tried the citronella collar, and I wish Id saved my money. It didnt do squat for our Doberman. I think this collar is more humane than having a dog put down, which is exactly what people do when they find they cant handle their unruly, aggressive dogs.
