![]() Canine Cooler Bed, Choose a size: MEDIUM By: Canine Cooler Average Rating: 3.0 Total Reviews: 21 More Information My dogs love it but the seams don't last I have bought 2 of these now and my dogs love them!!! Unfortunately it is always just a matter of time until the seams go. My first one lasted less than a year until an unfortunate puppy pounce ended its life (seams burst). The second one had been in the shade of a patio unmoved for months when one day it just gave in two locations. I am looking to buy a replacement as the dogs love it so muh that they keep laying on the deflated one dejectedly but I need something with better quality as these are not cheap (I get the large size). Excellent - NO SPLITS I ordered my canine cooler bed in 2003 and at first my dog wouldnt lay on it - because I dont think she understood what it was. Now, she sleeps on it all the time and it seems to keep her cool and comfortable. Ive owned it for 5 years now with no seam splits. I was thinking about buying my mom one for her dog and Im concerned if the newer models arent made as nice as the one I got in 2003...because mine has worked perfectly fine! My dog loves it. I went through the entire process and changed the water again in the summer of 2007 - and I was suprised that the inside of the cooler did not smell and wasnt moldy at all. Afterward, I read the instructions that the water NEVER needs to be changed. I honestly think if people are having problems that they are not setting it up initially correctly - exactly according to instructions. The bed -if it is done correctly to my understanding - is quite flat and NOT very full with water. It should have wrinkles in it, because essentially the idea is to get all of the air bubbles out. This took awhile to get it right. I feel the bed is extremely durable; Ive had it for 5 years and it looks brand new! DO NOT BUY!!! DO NOT BUY THIS! We are now on our 3rd or is it 4th bed and all have sprung leaks because the seam tore apart. I, like others, thought it was something I was doing but we made extra sure to follow directions thoroughly time and time again. Now it costs you to get a replacement and they used to warrant it for 2 years at no charge and now its down to 1 year with shipping and handling charges. What does that tell you? The way we saw it, is that they cant afford to ship out new ones for free anymore because there were so many people complaining that theirs had leaks and to replace everyones at no charge was getting costly. Do yourself a favor...and do not buy the canine cooler...I wish I never had!!! Canine Cooler - Seams burst within a year+ At just about 1.5 years, the seams split on my canine cooler. My dog loves it, so I have no choice but to replace it. At 16 yrs old, he overheats often - year round. It was never abused. The canine cooler also works great for humans --better than the Soothsofts human counterpart, Chillow. Chillow is similar to the lower quality of plastic covering, used for the dog cooling bed made by Cool Bed II for $20 less. The Soothsoft company now only warrants it for 1 year. If you didnt buy it directly from them, you have to deal with whomever you purchased it and be subjected to their return policies. The company charges a minimum of $15 to handle a returned replacement. Check around online - you can order a small canine cooler for $40-$45, S&H included or free. Takes the pain out of replacing this defective seam issue every year or two. Design Flaw. Living in Arizona, staying cool is a big concern of mine. Not just for me, but for my pug. I was SO excited when I discovered the "Canine Cooler" and even more so when I saw how much my pug enjoyed it. The Canine Cooler worked great for approximately 2 years until one day it ripped...ALONG THE SEAM! I was SO disappointed, as was my pug, and to make matters worse, I am NOT the only person this has happened to. So, you may want to re-consider before spending your hard-earned money on a product with a design flaw. Design Flaw. Living in Arizona, staying cool is a big concern of mine. Weve had the bed for about 1.5 years. Ive known the seams would split eventually from reading prior reviews, even before purchasing the mat. It took until today for the seam to split. With prior knowledge, we were careful to not move the mat about, and the only ones on the mat were the pups. Well probably try to seal it for a bit, then order another. If there is another brand out there with better seam design, I would definitely recommend it. mat works great, until inevitable seam split My 14+ year old pup loves the bed, and prefers it over her others. My dogs love their two beds, but the quality is pathetic Ive had at least ten of these cooler beds (honestly, Ive lost count) -- NINE of them have leaked and Ive had to trash each one of them. Each time, the seams failed and water leaked out all over the place -- my dogs did not claw them or chew on them or damage them in any way. At first, the company was very responsive and very good about replacing them at no charge, including no shipping -- otherwise, I certainly wouldnt have kept getting more of them, no matter how much my two Samoyeds loved them. At first I thought it must have been something I was doing wrong with using and maintaining the beds, but then I found reviews by other purchasers and I know now that its simply a defective product. I got the same explanation from the company that some other reviewers got -- that the seams had failed and started leaking because I moved the beds around too much. I knew that wasnt the cause: one was always in an oversized crate and never moved; the other was always on carpet, and I only slid that one out of the way when I vacuumed (I never folded it; I never picked it up). Then they said I must have stepped on it myself too much, which I know I didnt --after the third or fourth replacement, I treated them with kid gloves, and in spite of that, they still broke and leaked (and there is no way you can repair them yourself and make them water-tight again). Besides, on the companys website, they showed a full-sized pickup truck driving over one. Even if I did walk all over it (which, according to the instructions, you HAVE to do to "activate" the foam core), I certainly dont weigh as much as a full-sized pickup. I also tried not putting as much water in them, hoping that maybe less water pressure from the inside when a dog was lying on it would put less stress on the seams. The instructions list two amounts of water to install -- a standard quantity for filling for beds that are going to remain in one place, and a lesser quantity of water for beds that are going to be moved from place to place (I assume if youre going to travel with them). That didnt work either. For my most recent beds, Ive even put in less water than the smaller suggested amount. That didnt work either. Around the time I filed a replacement claim for Bed #8 (yes, it was getting beyond frustrating by this time, but my dogs really love these beds and the company was still replacing defective beds at no charge), the company told me theyd changed their technology on how the seams were manufactured, but the latest one that failed (just this evening, as a matter of fact) was one of the newer ones. Now that theyve changed their replacement policy and raised the prices, Im not even going to try to replace the latest one that broke. I give up. And Im sure its only a matter of time before my last surviving one fails, too. Good riddance. The sad thing is, its a great product for as long as it lasts, but it certainly doesnt last long enough to get your moneys worth. Both my dogs love them, and Im not sure how theyre going to adjust to not having them anymore. I think the company needs to take them off the market until they can manufacture a reliable product. This is absurd. Doesn't stay as cool as advertised Mat does not work as well as I would have liked. I purchased it primarily for outdoor use for our lab who has cushings disease. The advertisement said that as long as the mat remained in the shade it would stay cool. It stayed under our carport, completely shaded, but was no cooler than the actual concrete. OK, but No Magic Here I rated it 3 stars, because it is cooler than say vinyl flooring, but it doesnt offer that much relief. If you want to get an idea of what its like, put a piece of 1 inch foam in a zip lock bag and saturate the foam with water. Close the bag and lay it on the floor. Thats basically what the bed is. It is cooler than other surfaces, but my dogs gave it a mediocre response. They would rather lay on the tile or laminate floor. I would shop around. I got mine out-of-season on clearance at a pet store chain. OK, but No Magic Here I rated it 3 stars, because it is cooler than say vinyl flooring, but it doesnt offer that much relief. My dog for whom I purchased this is 16 years old and has a number of health problems. Although she still doesnt make this bed her first choice when its hot it really does keep her cool. She pants less and never gets off of it. I still have to entice her to use the bed. Im glad I purchased it and would recommend it if you need to keep your dog cool. Helpful hints for buyers We have owned this bed for 2-3 years and love it. When we first filled the bed we filled it with distilled water. I figured the purer the better. Minerals and bacteria may alter the exterior covering?!? We have never changed the water. We have had no floaters or seem problems. This bed works great. Our dog scratches at its surface nearly every time she beds. Her nails are trimmed! Our dog was not too receptive at first to the bed. She loves her kennel and we put it in there and tried to get her in. We ended up putting her in and shutting the door until she lay down. We did this about 2-3 times and she was hooked. She has joint pain and we have seen some improvement in how she feels. We have also noticed a lot less panting. I totally recommend this product. However, I think filling it with distilled water has made a difference with us. We also keep it inside. I am in the market to buy another one. So, hopefully I do not experience a seam problem. Great Idea - Lousy Execution Lasted perhaps a year before the seams burst, but it actually worked when it was intact. Please note that when you fill this thing with water it weighs a ton! Canine Cooler doesn't last. Poor seam manufacturing. It works and our dog loved it but it kept failing on the seams. Customer service kept replacing it until two years were up and then they said the poor quality was our problem since they supplied new ones to cover the two year warranty. We patched the seam and then the other seam failed a few months later on the other side of our final replacement. We replaced it with a K&H COOL BED II. With such a poorly made product I dont know how the Canine cooler company will survive? Canine Cooler doesn't last. Poor seam manufacturing. With such a poorly made product I dont know how the Canine cooler company will survive? My dogs LOVE this bed! No problems with mine at all. My pups love these! I also tried the Cool Bed II, but its much more flimsy, and tends to bunch up. I ordered two more of this Canine Cooler, so I can keep two upstairs and two downstairs! I also used it at an agility trial and it helped keep them cool. I wish Id bought one a few years ago! burst at the seams My dog didnt like this bed, wouldnt sleep on it no matter how hot the weather was. And after several months of it just laying on the floor the bed started leaking and we realised the seams had burst. The merchant wasnt very helpful in advising on the warranty/returns policy over email, insisted that we have to call on the phone even though we explained that the difference in timezones makes it difficult. Finally we simply threw the cooler bed away as it was too difficult to store away before we settle the returns. Poorly made My mat split along the seam just as the previous review stated. These mats arent made to last. Good until both mats split I live in the desert and my dogs needed an escape from the heat, even indoors. I bought two pads at a great price, and the dogs loved them. They would lie on them all the time, and they seemed to help them cool off. However, after only two months, both mats split in similar places near the seams. It certainly seems like a design defect. I was immensely disappointed, and not interested in shipping them back for the warranty as the cost to ship was not worth it. Would have been happy if they had actually survived more than two months (I also had the pad that was actually rated for more than my dogs weight.) On a good note, the Amazon associated store did a great job in getting them out to me in only two days when I paid for standard shiping. It was a present for a Husky who is a Search Dog. Works perfectly on his bed in the truck. Canine cooler mat Excellent. It was a present for a Husky who is a Search Dog. My only regret is that I didnt buy it sooner for her. Canine Cooler Mat This product really works! Every time I checked the crate pads during the last dog show we went to they were comfortably cool. Our dog sleeps on it every night and since using it, her elbow callouses have disappeared. She used to sleep in the tile or wood floor to keep cool but now sleeps only on the Canine Cooler mat. The initial set-up - filling it with water and removing the excess air seemed a bit complicated at first but it was actually fairly easy. Every dog should have one of these...highly recommended!
