I got the Dr. Noys Plush Squirrel in Januaryr. It became my Service Dogs favorite toy. I quickly named Shelleys new toy Rocky after the infamous Rocky the Squirrel (does Kong make a Moose?:-) This is the first dog I ever had that goes through stuffed animals so quickly. It took her several weeks to divest Rocky of the ball by chewing a hole big enough to get it out. Now she has two balls to play with - one she made squeakless. Rocky is now missing one ear, its head is almost severed from its body; its face is much chewed on and is in deplorable condition. Surprisingly Rockys tail and legs are in fairly good condition. Shelley learned to be gentle with this plush toy because she does not want Rocky to disappear. She is a remarkably intelligent dog and learns quickly. She still carries Rocky around and is very protective of her favorite toy. Maybe she will get a new Rocky for Christmas. On: 2008-05-29
Our corgi has had two of these squirrels and although they are not indestructible, they have outlived any other plush animals we have tried. Yes, the tail eventually falls off. Yes, the feet have been chewed off. Yes, the squeaker does stop squeaking, but our crazy dog still loves his squirrel tail-less, foot-less, and squeak-less. I would get another squirrel and another and another from Dr. Noys. On: 2008-04-11
I was excited to find Dr Noys Dog Toys as I had heard good things about their durabillity. However, it took no time at all for my 8-month old golden/spaniel cross to rip them apart...literally withing minutes. As a consequence, I would not buy them again...I will purchase less expensive toys for him to shred. I do think they would be wonderful for dogs who like to cuddle their animals. On: 2008-03-09
These toys are among the best plush dog toys out there, and weve tried several. I dont think any are truly "indestructible" since theres always a dog somewhere that will defy that claim, but these are well made and worth buying for the majority of dogs. Just be *sure* to buy the size that suits your dog; dont buy one too small that can be swallowed easily! Dr. Noys toys are great in that they always include an extra squeaker in the pack, and the toy squeaker is easily replaceable in its hidden velcro pouch. (Squeakers are not indestructible; thats why they include an extra. But the advantage here is that they are very secure, and cant be eaten.) You can even buy separate packages of squeakers if your dog is tough on plush toys. Or you can remove the squeaker if it drives you crazy! ;-) In the larger sizes you can replace the squeaker with a tennis ball for active dogs.
Pay attention to the sizes listed: extra-small is really small, best for only the tiniest toy breeds or for small puppies. Medium will work for most dogs, but if your dog is a shredder, loves to destroy plush toys, only get the large sizes. If you have certain breeds, like Staffordshire terriers and bull dogs, then perhaps another toy would be a wiser choice. You know your dog.
So if youre tired of buying so-called "dog toys" that are really glorified baby toys and easily destroyed, try these. Ours have lasted for two years with hard play, only replacing the squeakers. Even better, theyre usually included in the Amazon 4-for-3 promotion, so you can get one free if you buy four (smaller sizes)! That way you can test out different designs, or save one for later. Highly recommended! On: 2008-01-19
When my corgi Sophie first got this toy, she went wild with it... months later its still her favorite. Shes tried to destuff a lot of her toys, but this one has baffled her, HAHAHAHA!!! Extremely well made. I love the way the squeakers go into separate plush and velcro-closed pouches. Sophie loves the three different textures -- plush, sheepy, and whatever the tail is. And of course the squeakers. Sophie loves faux sheepskin, squeakers, and she loves to shake and worry her toys. If your dog likes any one of these things, itll like the toy a lot. If it likes two, this toy will be a huge hit. If, like Sophie, its nuts for all three -- youll have one very, very, very happy doggy. On: 2008-01-18
