Great product     On: 2007-12-21

This is a great product! I have a 135# Bloodhound that is 28 inches at the shoulder and can easily rest his head on our counter. I set the base unit on our kitchen island and the warning beep and shock is enough to keep him away from the counters. I keep the collar on him from 5:30 PM to about 11:00 PM when he goes into the bedroom with us and he wears it every day.

I read the reviews about the battery and the range and I agree about the range, but for me the limited distance is perfect as I only need about 6 feet of range to be effective. I disagree about the battery life though.

I purchased two collars and one base unit about three years ago and used it for about 3 months to deter my dogs from the cat litter box housed in the laundry room. The two dogs wore the collars daily while in the house for approximately 4 or 5 hours a day. I then put the units away as the dogs stopped trying to get to the litter box. Then three days ago I got the collars out again and guess what...battery is still hot and when I tested it against my skin its shock was enough that I could not keep it against my skin for more than a few seconds. So far it is still working and seems to be very effective.

I would make sure to use the highest quality battery possible..I checked the collars and mine are energizers. Maybe the one reviewers unit is defective causing a shortened life?

I plan on buying another base unit to keep the dogs off my sons bed as they have tried to make that their new sleeping area.

Doesn't Work on Cats     On: 2007-08-06

We saw some information that this would also be effective for cats. Dont know about other cats, but none of our cats seemed to even be aware of it. No reaction whatsoever.
Need to improve their Zones system!!     On: 2006-08-20

I bought Zones for my dog who likes to bodyslam our back door, and for counter surfing. I think the Zones idea is an excellent one; however Innotek needs to make some major improvements.

Pros:
1. The concept is great. Even if youre not in the room, your dog can receive a correction for misbehavior. This is important so that the dog knows it shouldnt do the behavior when youre not around.
2. The collar is lightweight and the prongs are rounded, so its more comfortable for the dog.

Cons:
1. The batteries in the collar dont last long at all(two days, maximum). And since they cost $4 to replace, that adds up. I havent replaced the batteries in the round transmitter yet. Ive replaced the batteries in the collar 6 times, and Ive only had this for 3 weeks.
2. The shock level should be adjustable. My dog only weighs 45#, yet she thinks its worth the shock to get what she wants. Its just not uncomfortable enough to completely deter her.
3. My dog has also figured out that when shes not wearing the collar the rules dont apply. Although if the collar would last longer, she could probably get the idea after long enough use.

My sister-in-law has the Innotek FS-15 Remote Trainer, and hasnt had to replace the battery in the collar yet(over a year). This is with frequent use. I think going to the smaller, flat batteries was a bad idea. They just dont last long.

My advice: If you have cats or small dogs, this might work. Or if you have a dog that isnt very smart. Otherwise, save your money.

Works ok, range sucks, but it does keep my cat away from protected areas     On: 2006-04-24

I would have given this thing 5 stars if the range worked like they said it would. I put the range up to its max and placed the disc in my family room so my cat wouldnt scratch on the couches and eat my tree.
The cat should have heard its collar beep at 10 ft from the disc, but its able to get within 5 ft of it.
The GOOD NEWS is, I havent seen my cat in the room since I got this thing working correctly ! Yay. Ive seen it attempt to walk into the family room, but it hears the beep and immediately backs up. Now it barely gets close to the room
A word of caution, if you dont think this is working, adjust the collar to me more snug. I thought it wasnt working at first, but the collar just had to be slightly tighter to shock the cat through its thick fur.

Great Product - But things you should know before buying     On: 2006-01-18

The zones work great, within the limits listed below.

Good Points
1. Has a A, B, and AB setting which lets you control individual dog access to areas or objects (such as separate food bowls for special diets, rooms, etc)
2. The shock is mild but definitely uncomfortable (I tested it on me before I used it on the dogs). It is milder than the strong static shocks I regularly get around the house.
3. The dogs quickly learn to avoid things that cause shocks.

Limits
1. Collar wear is recommended to be limited to 12 hours due to rubbing by the stud on the neck. This can be a problem with intelligent dog and schedules requiring longer wear times. Intelligent dogs can quickly learn that the collar is the source of the shock and can wait until they are not wearing it to get into the forbidden.
2. The range increments listed (2-12 ft) are not dependable. I find mine, with direct line of sight, is half that or less.
3. The six available range settings are not enough. There are times that 1 or 2 ft increment is too much.
4. Area of affect is spherical. Keep this in mind when deciding where to use them. Depending on the range setting, just walking by the counter or under the table can set them off even if all you intended was to discourage Fluffys nose from appearing on the counter/table top. The only way to alleviate this is to find some way to dangle the zone from the ceiling to correctly limit the reaction area to those 3 ft off the floor.
