Excellent product for thirsty pets     On: 2008-11-16

I have used this product for several months without any major issues. I would recommend this waterer to any potential buyers. It is sturdy and easy to clean. There is a gurgling noise when the water needs to replenish in the bowl. At first, the sound startled my pets but they are all accustomed to the noise. They adapted from a bowl to the waterer rather quickly. I have three of these waterers in my home. They are shared by three cats and three dogs.
Great for multiple pets     On: 2008-11-06

Ive used other waterers and what makes this one better is how easy it is to fill without spilling 1/2 of it on the floor. Works great and the 1 gallon size means less refilling every week. My only complaint is that its hard to pull just the water bottle off without taking the top half of the black mount with it. Its a minor problem.
Pretty good     On: 2008-10-06

I dont have much to compare this product to, being a first-time pet owner. But my cat doesnt seem to have any complaints. So if shes happy I am happy.
Things like this make life with pets much easier     On: 2008-10-01

I bought this because I wanted to keep both my cats from going thirsty when Im away for days at a time due to work. It works great and the 1 gallon water tank is perfect. Putting the water jug on and taking it off can be a bit tricky but as long as you grip the lid to the water resevoir and remove the bottle only it is easy. Ive had this product for almost 2 weeks and the water lasted for a week and a half with 2 cats so Id say this really does the job.
FILLING/PLACMENT DIFFICULTIES....     On: 2008-09-19

These pet "silos" are a wonderful invention to keep the "Babys" bowls
filled and to keep the owner from bending over sooo frequently!!!

HOWEVER-the Petmate Le Bristo, besides being a bit "pricey"
is rather difficult to fill-or- rather difficult to place on the floor once filled.

Since the product "bottle" dosent actually lock securely to the base, once you have filled it with food (or worse) with water, you flip it right side up.

Then, you bend to place it on the floor & POW!!-it slips apart and all the cereal (or water) is spilled everywhere!!!

The actual owners of this product know what Im describing!!

So once this unit is filled & placed in "Babys" feeding area-all is well-BUT if you spill, you will be vacuuming or mopping for an hour!!!

Great for our dog     On: 2008-09-18

I work long days and with this I do not have to worry about our dog getting enough water or spilling her dish. There is always water for her.
Great Item     On: 2008-09-11

We went out of the country for two weeks and had noone to take care of our two cats ---- I was worried sick about what would happen to them, then I found this item. Ive seen many feeders/waters and some are priced over the top --- I selected this item because the price was right. I was skeptical, of course, but I LOVE it; Im so glad that I bought this --- I would recommend this to anyone. The one change I would make is to the waterer --- its like a water cooler jug -- it must be removed and filled --- I think it would be better if you could just remove the top, like the feeder, and fill it.
wonderful Waterer     On: 2008-09-08

this has been a wonderful thing with 3 Golden Retrievers in our house. The water lasts for about a week and there is no algee growing in the reservoir. It is a great product and I would recommend this to anyone who has multipal dogs.
Great Water dish for small pets     On: 2008-08-30

This is a great way to provide clean fresh water for your pets. My only caveat is that with 2 huskies, we are still filling to more frequently than I would like.
Works well. 2 Thumbs up     On: 2008-08-17

Have 3 new kittens. They like playing around in the water. Works as advertised.
Work good.     On: 2008-08-07

I got these for my new puppy and to replace my cats dishes. They work just fine. The only problem is that if you dont pick it up by the bottom it falls apart and makes a big mess.
Works great!     On: 2008-08-04

Seems to be well made with good quality material. Jug gurgles as water feeds to the drinking bowl. Husky jumps back and slowly sneaks up on it again. Lab assumes its his stomach growling, as always.
nice     On: 2008-07-31

works as expected, and the cat seems to drink more water since I started using this item
Great product, water does not become slimey     On: 2008-07-25

I guess the microban is the reason but I love this because the water does not become slimey. I ordered both the feed and water container. Love the size because it fits in my smaller home. We just moved.
OK until the bottle breaks     On: 2008-07-22

Im only giving this system three stars because the plastic bottle it comes with breaks so easily.
I live in the mountains where its very dry, so along with birdseed and peanuts for the squirrels, I provide the outdoor critters with water. I started out using a large bowl, but had to refill it too often. The animals often turned the bowl over during the night, and it just wasnt working out well.
So, one day while at WalMart I saw Le Bistro watering unit and thought it would be ideal for providing water for the wildlife. And it was... for about eight months, when suddenly the bottle developed a large crack and could no longer be used. So back to WalMart in search of a replacement bottle, but none was to be found. I bought another unit and brought it home, starting over.
Again, within a year the bottle cracked and I had to throw it away. Now I have two water bowls but no replacement bottle for either one. I am now on my third unit (they are so cheap, after all), but wishing I could find replacement bottles for the future. I have searched pet stores and elsewhere, as well as online, with no results thus far. I do wish this company would provide replacement bottles!
Bigger is Better!     On: 2008-07-20

This is the second or third one of these I have owned. This larger size makes it even easier to keep my dogs hydrated during this very hot summer. I dont have to worry about them running out of water or knocking their bowl over. The water lasts about a week for my two dogs. Why would you NOT get one of these?
Good for when you're on vacation but not for all the time use     On: 2008-07-12

I started off using this as the primary water dish for my pets, however within a very short amount of time, Id have to dump out all the water to clean it because a nasty, clear slime would start growing in the dish-YUCK!

I decided to start using a pet water fountain as their primary water source, because its constantly moving and theres a filter, it stays clean a bit longer.

However, this is great for cats, if youre away on vacation. But, because of the slime factor, I dont like to use this unless I have to.
water bowl for dog     On: 2008-07-05

this is a great product for your dogs. I have 2 full size dogs and I bought 2 of these since I live in Florida and it is really hot year round the dogs drink a lot of water so makes it very convenient for me when I am not home all the time and I know they have plenty of water The container holds 5 gallons of water the bowl about another 1 1/2 gallons. very well built easy to fill and clean. Great price also
Great Offer!     On: 2008-07-02

Great Products that help with taking care of your animals when you are away from home.
SUPER!     On: 2008-06-13

I have had pets all of my life and pet water bowls have always equaled a mess. Not this one!! It is easy to fill, clean and move around! I am going to get a couple of more as gifts!! Super buy!
does the trick     On: 2008-06-12

I have used this a few times since I received it. Works great, just as expected. No problems. It was exactly what I was looking for.
Great produce     On: 2008-05-21

This works great. It contains plenty of water and dispenses it as my dog drinks. This is a little scary for my very skiddish Golden Retriever but I believe he will eventually get over this and like having fresh water available. Also, it is not so big that I cant pick it up and empty it to clean it if necessary. There is another produce very similar to this one which holds 5 gallons which is TOO big in my view.
Now lets work on a litter solution     On: 2008-05-14

I purchased one of these because I keep forgetting to check the water dish. Okay, with cats you dont always see them so... out of sight, out of mind. The water dish gets overlooked because they find "other places" to get their water. They dont complain and I dont know exactly where they get their water.

But, since having the Microban waterer, I can remember sometime in the weeks time to see where the water level is. The base holds plenty of water so even if the bottle looks low or empty, the base is holding at least another day or two worth of water. Also, I have mastered the replacing of the bottle (a small mess my first time) so that I can pull the bottle off fast enough (excess water goes directly in the base to be used) and refill the bottle. Flipping the full water bottle back on to the base is easy enough and any spillage goes directly into the base. NO messes!

This is a fine product and I have not had any problem with mold or yuckiness yet (which always happened in the old water dish). I do clean it every week or two just to make sure it stays clean (I had to do this every several days with the old water dish).

Now that there is a constant supply of fresh water, the cats seem to be utilizing the litter box more. I guess that is good for them, but now I have swapped one chore for another. Oh well, they are healthier anyway.

Overall, this product sames me time which makes me happy (and probably the cat, too, since we have been trying to train the kids to put the toilet seat down when finished). The programming can be a little difficult for the technologically challenged. Most of the setting are self explanatory with the exception of the portions size. They use a code (ie 1, 2, 3, etc) to mean things like 1/4 cup, 1/2, and so on. The "legend" is located in the instruction manual which is usually already in a landfill before you need it again.

I did find the manual online at http://petmate.com/Products/LeBistro-Portion-Control-Feeders__24240.aspx and also printed a copy and saved a copy to my computer in my "important" folder.
Pretty good     On: 2008-04-19

Ive had this product a few months now (for our cat), and its working pretty well. Weve used it while going away on short trips, and it worked fine. It delivers the water via gravity. I try to clean it out with soap and hot water every couple of weeks so mold doesnt form. The way the bottle connects to the dish is a little bit tricky and always takes me 2-3 tries before it works (and still has water in the container).
It falls off     On: 2008-04-15

it seam ever time i change the the bottom snaps into 2 pices always haven to put it back together
good buy for the money     On: 2008-04-07

This waterer is easy to use, and to see the level remaning. There is nothing to replace or go wrong with it. It is easy to clean and keep filled. When fully filled there is enough water for two cats for about six days. The only caution I have is that as the water bottle gets brittle after several years, so do not drop it.
dog likes it...     On: 2008-04-05

I bought this one to replace a much older version that was really hard to keep clean, so the Microban feature appeals to me, however it has been to short of a time period to evaluate whether or not it will be effective.

The dog has no problem using it. I find that placement on the floor hampers my usage, so I use a cup instead...
Works ok     On: 2008-03-31

Its a little too big for my cat, but he does use it. Every 2-3 days I have to rinse out the bowl because there is just too much water. I was thinking of putting something in the hole to prevent alot of water from coming out. Other then those issues, it works ok.
Great product but has its limitations     On: 2008-03-26

I really enjoy not having to fill the dogs water bowl four times a day (2 Goldens and a Border Collie) but there are a few limitations with this product.

1) Filling it isnt easy if you dont have a deep basin (like a janitorial basin in a basement or the like)
2) Cleaning the inside of the water jug to get rid of the inevitable algae buildup takes some creativity and effort.
3) It isnt easy to keep the watering portion of the bowl clean since it doesnt need to be filled as often as a regular watering bowl.

This is my second one (first one finally cracked from overuse as a stool when I was too lazy to sit in a real chair to put on my boots). I thought in the time between my first purchase and this one (eight years) they would find a better solution for the five gallon bottle. Filling it is difficult. It does not fit in any sink I have in my cabin so I have to either fill it outside with a hose (Pacific Northwest damp, rain, cold = not fun) or in the shower. Filling it in the shower is a pain and can be messy putting it back in place ( I have one arm that I cant lift with.. comical but not fun).

Good Buy     On: 2008-03-26

Durable and does a good job. Aftyer purchasing and using the first one, I bought three more. That should tell you they are worth the $$$

Great Watering Unit for when Traveling     On: 2008-03-23

My cats like it becuase its a constant stable source of water wether Im traveling or not. I cant say the water is always fresh because occasionally my cats like to play in & around the bowl with their toys & sometimes their food, but thats just how my cats are. So periodically I have to do a little extra cleaning or refresh the bowl.

I have both the feeder and the waterer, but I really only fill the jugs when Im traveling. I plan to get another set, but in white, to cover them for a 14+day trip Im planning. Less work for a cat sitter and less worry for me.

I like it because batteries and electricity is not required and its a stable source of fresh water (and dry food if you have the feeder also), for my cats especially when Im traveling. If the power in my building goes out (and occasionally it has for a short period in really bad weather or when another building blew the transformers or had a fire...) it still works & the cats still drink from it without power interruption issues.
What a lifesaver     On: 2008-03-07

If you are active and need to leave your cats alone for extended periods of time (day or two or three), this is a lifesaver. Works perfectly. The cat loves it. Done deal!!!
Wonderful Waterer     On: 2008-03-05

This is a very nice waterer, and works well for my 3 doxies and black lab. they love it! But be warned that it is very big, and can be hard to lift when fully filled. Other than that great waterer
My cat loves his dish and sleeps against it     On: 2008-02-27

This is my second LeBistro water dish. The first one lasted over ten years, and was my cat Fluffys favorite pasttime. He loved lying with his head on the brim, watching the water, and if any bubbles emerged it made his day. He has always made an effort to escort me to refill it, as if to watch over and approve. The dish finally wore out, so now this one is a replacement for it. Fluffy has immediately taken to it again, like a long, lost friend. My pets generally could care less about dishes, but this one has won his heart..again.
Confusing photo     On: 2008-02-22

The photo shows one waterer and a feeder, when you order youll get
one waterer only which is the same as written description but you feel
cheated if you order by the photo and expecting both.
Grat Item     On: 2008-02-17

Great item to use for someone who isnt home all day allowing the dog to have water.
after 6 months, it needs a push to get it going     On: 2008-02-10

Lately the water has stopped flowing by itself about half the time. Luckily our cats will let us know when this happens, meowing loudly until we give it a good push to get the water flowing again.

It worked fine for a good while, but currently I wouldnt trust it while were away for a weekend (or longer) to keep dispensing water for our 2 cats. I think Ill try one of the dispensers that plugs in to the wall to ensure that the water keeps flowing/being dispensed.
Petmate     On: 2008-02-08

This is the perfect dog food and water feeder for dogs. Its not messy and saves from having to fill the food bowl daily.
Better than electric.     On: 2008-02-08

I used those automatic waterers for years for my five animals. I always had a mess (water everywhere) and I had to fill it frequently. This one has a very large bowl. The animals (dogs and cats) dont splash the water outside the bowl and the water stays fresh for a couple days or more. Ive been very pleased and will never use an electric one again.
Scared my two fearless dogs     On: 2008-01-24

I bought this despite the reviews stating that the glugging sound scares dogs. I have two big dogs, one a rottweiler mix and one a shepherd cross, and while theyre both gentle sweethearts, neither is scared of *anything*.

Until this thing. When we first filled it they both immediately started happily drinking from it, which caused it to glug, and they both sprung back as if a cobra had struck at them! After a day or two the rottweiler was perfectly fine with it, but our shepherd cross still tiptoes up to it like Jack Bauer defusing a bomb. We had to get him used to it by leaving another inert bowl of water next to the jug for a couple of weeks until he got used to not being attacked by the glug-monster.

Still, after seeing how common this complaint is youd think the manufacturer would de-glug this thing. It wouldnt take much of an engineering change and Im thinking of trying to rig something up myself, but I shouldnt have to, you know?

Petmate Waterer     On: 2008-01-15

I purchased this for our son to use for his dog. It stayed at our house for the 2 cats. They love it!
Great for multi-pet households.     On: 2008-01-13

I agree with others who remarked that the size can make the tank awkward to handle. I like to filter my pets water, but bc of its size I am forced to use tap water from my tub. I do have some rescue dogs. I adopted my long haired chihuahua in the summer of 2007 and noticed he did not drink much even though it was quite warm. I lated learned that he was afraid of the gurgling noise! (This from a 5 pound chi who wants to take on dogs many times his size). He did eventually acclimate to the sound it makes. For customers who are purchasing ANY waterer like this for first time, I would suggest making an alternate water source available - such as a bowl - until you are certain your pets will drink from it. All in all, this is a great product that can be very beneficial as long as you monitor your pets intake initially.
2-Quarts of Stagnant Water     On: 2008-01-11

I purchased this as part of a continuing effort to thwart one of our cats who has a death wish as he refuses to drink out of anything other than a chows bowl. While the cat seemed to like this bowl after it was rinsed a few times it stopped drinking out of it about two weeks later. I couldnt figure out why at first since wed change the water every couple days but then I noticed an odor and skim which had developed on the surface of the plastic jug.

I tried a few different ways to clean the jug ranging from scrubbing and shaking rice but the cat wouldnt drink from it while it wasnt worth the effort to really figure out exactly what Microban actually means if bacteria growth starts immediately after the chlorine in the water evaporates.

Since its cheap, you might give it a shot but were currently trying a heated bowl with some success and have no faith in these types of products because even if a pet will drink from the dish, there is a good chance health risks increase the longer it is used. I suspect the product is made for single-use and if thats the case it should be clearly described as such.
No lid like in the photo!     On: 2007-12-20

The photo is deceiving. This arrived without a lid, so you have to tip it over to fill, and try and fit it in the bottom without spilling the water all over. I think they are using a photo of the FEEDER, which does have a lid. This is a big difference.

The feeder is great, but I will probably return the waterer, its too hard to fill.
Great, but has drawbacks.     On: 2007-12-06

Ok. I got this because I have two dogs and five cats. I had a one gallon waterer that seemed like it needed to be filled twice a day, so I needed a larger one. This is a great product but it has it pros and cons....
PROS: Looks great!, Has large bowl unlike many waterers, Doesnt make as much noise as other waterers, more than one animal can actualy drink out of it, other than its weight, its drawbacks are no worse than other wateters.
CONS: It would probably be hard to fill in a regular sink, I just put in the spray hose and taped the lever down and it filled in a snap. It is also very heavy when full and you need to be able to lift prob. 35-40 lbs and flip that over without spilling everything. You also loose alot of the water when you flip it over when it fills the bowl, so I filled the bowl half way (dont fill it all the way or it will overflow when you put the top on) before adding the canister. It is also hard to flip it over without spilling it, on my old waterer I just put the bottom on a flipped it quickly, but that would be a very hard manuver with this monster, so be prepared for a splash.
Though it has some drawbacks, it is no worse than other waterers and I am quite happy with it.
Oh, Id also like to add that the pictured item (currently anyway) is a feeder, NOT the waterer. The waterer does not open on the top like the feeder shown.
Good Value     On: 2007-11-13

Does a good job. I was concerned about the units ability to keep the dish full and not slop water all over. It does a very good job. I can recommend this unit for small dogs and cats. I have 3 cats and a small dog and they love it.
Okay, but no different from what you can get at a pet store (revised)     On: 2007-11-11

Originally, I rated the pet FEEDER and accidentally put the review in the waterer. Could not edit the rating. I would give it 2 stars. The feeder is 4 stars.
works great but     On: 2007-11-10

the tank works great and stays cleaner than others I have had in the past but someone should have engineered some kind of handle into it. I have spilled a lot of water on the floor getting the tank back on top. Still I would recommend this dog water dish, and it can be a bit funny to watch the dogs get used to the bubbling of the water tank.
Works For Me     On: 2007-11-03

While its not the highest-tech waterer Ive seen out there, it works for my cats as there is no ready access to an electrical outlet for the fancy recirculating models. A full reservoir lasts about a week for my two mostly-outdoor cats, and theyre happy with it.
works well     On: 2007-11-02

this is good product. I bought it to go with the le bistro automatic pet feeder, so they would match. It is much larger than the feeded. The water usually needs changing well before it is empty. Would choose smaller 1 1/2 g size. Seems like it would be a little easier to maintain and clean.

HORRIBLE     On: 2007-10-25

While this system might look easy to use, think again. The water reserve is heavy when it is full, does not pour easily into the bowl itself, and the bowl and water become fouled very quickly. Far better to buy a large stainless steel water bowl or stainless steel self-filling water bowl than this product. The food dispenser is barely adequate, and candidly speaking, not as convenient as it looks. This product might work well for cats, but is totally inappropriate for a dog larger than 3 pounds. DO MORE RESEARCH BEFORE YOU PURCHASE THIS SYSTEM.
Messy     On: 2007-10-12

Pros: Good idea. Holds water.

Cons: Messy. Guess what the dog will do when he is bored. Dispenses too much water. amount should be more shallow. For some reason it leaks around the outer edges. They are not sealed. Maybe for overflow reasons or for the thing to breathe, but why all around?

F- for design
A+ for idea
Freaked the dog out!     On: 2007-10-06

Great concept, but completely freaked my black lab out. Ill admit, she is a tad on the sensitive side. My dog would not even go near it nor would she drink out of a regular dish if it were in the vicinity of the bubbler. She was searching for water by trying to drink out of toilets and eating grass (for moisture) outside. Too bad, because it would have been a convenience for me to not have to fill her dish (which is rather large) all the time. I returned it and the store said they get that reason all the time. It might be good for a puppy who doesnt yet know to be scared by it.
Works well for my pets     On: 2007-10-05

I had an older, blue version of this product for several years, and it always worked well for my dog and cat. After several years of heavy use, the water container ended up with a small chip which caused leaking and spilling. I tried a different brand of watering system and ended up with a mess of water all over my floor! So I was very happy to find the Bistro on Amazon. I like the new color, and the water container has a larger mouth now which makes it easier to fill. I have never had any problems with my pets knocking it off the base, though my dog does sometimes splash water out of the bowl. (But I think shed do that with any bowl). I solve that problem by keeping it on a tray. Overall, I am very pleased with this product and was glad to be able to find it again.
Works great for my rabbits     On: 2007-10-05

I use this for my rabbits. It is just the right size for them and works fine.
Great for a simple solution for your kitty.     On: 2007-09-24

My 8yo cat is skittish around this waterer! I am in shock, but she usually warms up to things eventually. Id rather she be hesitant than knock the whole thing over like some other cats Ive been reading about. I first put the dish and lid (that the bottle sits in) into the dishwasher. They came out perfectly fine, I just rinsed the water bottle since someone else said that it would get damaged in the dishwasher. I filled the water bottle and tipped it into the base (all within the confines of the kitchen sink). By the time the reserve dish filled and then the bowl filled (from the little hole), the gallon jug was down about 1/5 of its water. So, I took the bottle out, refilled it, then put it on the base again while it was full of water. This way, I was able to increase the amount of water available. I mostly did this because the subsequent "burble/gurgling" of the jug emptying into the reserve dish scared the daylights out of my cat. It took her a full day to get enough nerve to approach the dish. By that point she was probably quite parched. It seems to be working great, and we dont have to worry about her getting any UT infections or kidney problems. I am just wondering if it will stay clean until the water is out. I might end up washing it before she drinks that much water...but well see. Great product, I would recommend to anyone who doesnt want to deal with the motors, plugs, waterfalls and filters of the more expensive waterers.

Simple & works well     On: 2007-09-11

The thing works just like a water cooler and is simple to set up. You just snap the two black plastic pieces togother, fill up the bottle, then put the bottle down, no battery or anything like that. I bought this big one instead of the smaller one just in case I have to be out of town for a while (got tired of asking people to come over my place to feed the dog).

I also bought the "Petmate Automatic Pet Feeder" to go with this. Now I can take of for a couple of days without having to worry much.

Like the size and the price. Had one that was bigger, but the water that sat in the bowl became dirty. This one cycles thru just fine and holds about a weeks worth of water for our cat. About $10 cheaper than what I found in the local pet store.
Works, but dogs are terrified to drink water     On: 2007-09-08

To my dogs, this product should be called Le BeastRo. While the engineer in me is impressed at its simple function (and I should say that the product works perfectly), the dog owner in me is a bit disappointed.

My two dogs nearly dehydrated out of fear of drinking from Le Bistro. When it refills, it makes a rather loud "glubburp" noise like from your office water cooler. This sends them running to all corners of the house fearing for their lives.

I had to give up after 3 days when they would lick moist cement during walks just to get the water they so badly wanted.

Hopefully your dogs have firmer constitutions than mine, but if theyre prone to fearing sudden noises, I would seriously reconsider purchasing this product.
My kitties like it, but it's too light     On: 2007-09-08

For whatever reason, my kitties seem to enjoy drinking from the Le Bistro waterer more than from their water dishes. Maybe its the novelty. I do think it will be a good solution for supplying them with fresh water when Im away.

It *is* a bit on the light side, though. I put mine in a narrow space between a cabinet and a wall, to make sure they dont use it as a toy and slide it all over the floor.

Update: I stopped using this after finding it one morning tipped over with water all over the floor. Its just too light for a young, playful cat.
The perfect dog waterer.     On: 2007-09-07

This works wonderfully for my 3 german shepherd dogs. They dont know it over and make a big mess. The water will last about 5 days, I dont have to worry with constantly filling up a water bowl.
Fair, but Could be a lot better...should choose another shipping method!!     On: 2007-09-06

The Waterer was okay, a bit difficult to fill up and then flip over into the bin. Would be better if had an opening at the top to fill as it is already in position. However, the major problem I had, was the shipping of the item was the WORST!!! I had purhased this item, as I was going on vacation for a week and wanted my 2 cats to have plenty of water, and at the last minute I had to go out and buy another watering system, because there was a HUGE dent in it that would not come out. It was nearly crushed in half. I did contact the seller and I was offered to return it to them and I would receive a credit less the shipping cost, however, the cost of returning it through UPS (sellers choice) and the extra effort was not worth returning the item. I would have only got about 50% of the amount I paid back from the seller.
Pet waterer     On: 2007-09-05

This is a great product for anyone with a small dog or cat for access to water when they need it and fresh. I use filtered water from my refrig & the bottle has a small neck that fits. I still wash it every so often because of dog food & small amount of film gets on the sides just a little after several weeks.
Never Again!     On: 2007-08-28

If I could rate this lower than one star, I would! I received a petmate le bistro feeder some months ago. I couldnt use it immediately because of a medical condition of one of my cats. A month ago I took it out of the box, programmed it and was very satisfied for about two and a half weeks. Then it stopped working. I put in new batteries (even though the ones in it should have still been good). I tried to reprogram it and it does not work. I went on the internet to find an e-mail address for Petmate Le Bistro, but there is none. I tried to call the 800 number that is listed. I was on hold for 45 minutes and then I lost patience. It is good for nothing and I will junk it. I am certainly not going to wait even another 5 minutes for that company to answer the phone. Thank you for letting me review this very expensive product that certainly does not work from a company that couldnt care less.
Great Product!     On: 2007-08-01

This product was delivered quickly and works great! My kitties love it (although I think they want to play in it more than drink it!)
Works Like A Champ!     On: 2007-07-22

Recently returned home from a 6 day trip. The Boys were fed and there was several days worth of food left ready to be dispensed!Petmate Le Bistro Electronic Portion-Control Automatic Pet Feeder, Black We purchased the Petmate Petmate Le Bistro with Microban Waterer Small 1 Gallon, Black, and The Boys had plenty of fresh water!

These two Le Bistro products work very well for me. Been using both for about 4 months now...no problems! I use them inside the house so I can not attest to their durability outside.

The feeder is an electronic (battery operated) device and is not meant to be left outside.

The water bowl is like an office water cooler...and it works very well for 2 cats.

Freedom from my cats.     On: 2007-07-15

I have 2 kitties and I like to be able to take off for a weekend and not have to worry about them going hungry or thirsty. I own both the LeBistro waterer and feeder. I like the Microban feature. I have had these for a couple of years and even if I havent changed the water for a week, there are no weird things growing in the water. They both hold plenty for a weekend away and they dont look too bad either. I love them and so do my cats.
Makes my life easier & my cats happier     On: 2007-06-25

I never want my cats to go through the misery of being without water. This automatic waterer lets me be sure they have water whenever they want it. Clean water. I can fill the bottle and know no matter how long Im stuck at work I dont have to worry about the kitties going thirsty. And its very easy to clean.

I had invested in some of the electric-pump filtered water fountains, but my cats ignore those and go to their old faithful Bistro, so Im unplugging the fountains and adding some more Bistro waterers around the house.
Automatic Pet Feeder     On: 2007-06-18

This works great. Easy to program and is everything I hoped it would be.
Mediocre     On: 2007-06-04

I purchased two of these in Planet Blue, as I have four outside dogs and keeping fresh water available to them proved to be no easy task. On the side, the product is touted to be treated with "Micro-ban" to curb bacteria-I find that it doesnt curb it anymore than any other ordinary plastic. I recommend cleaning it out every so often, as it does begin to stink, as stagnant water does. All in all an ok, though not great, product.
Impossible to clean     On: 2007-06-01

The waterer jug is constructed of a single molded piece of plastic with a small outlet and a 90-degree step inside the jug. Even a bottle brush cannot reach the sharp corner inside the jug where the mold will accumulate. Youd need a special hinged brush to reach the corner.

The waterer base has a keyed removable top, and it is at least possible to reach most of the surfaces, but there are undesirable crevices which are hard to clean out. Worse, the surface finish is quite rough. It is thus impossible to remove the microscopic algae growth, so it quickly comes back.

Its a great idea but poorly executed. If theyd designed it right, they wouldnt have to impregnate the plastic with microbicides!
awesome!     On: 2007-06-01

5 gallow water feeders arrived in fast time. They work great! Will buy from again in the future. Thanks so much!
Water and food Dispensers     On: 2007-05-24

Dispenses fresh water for up to 3 weeks for my cat. Very efficient as I am working and do not have to worry about constantly filling water bowl. I love the color pink and my cat is a female - great choice. Very durable and easy to clean. The dry food holder is great too. It doesnt automatically drop the dry food as well as I like but it still helps me out when I am gone.
not bad -- not good     On: 2007-05-18

small bowl causes splash over with bigger dogs. Design is on the chintzy side. But, it does serve a gallon of water in a fairly reliable manner
OK, not great     On: 2007-05-14

I wanted a matching set of feeder/waterer for my cat. The waterer came apart at the bottom when I went to clean it. Other wise it is fine.
Le Bistro works well.     On: 2007-05-12

Works well for my thirsty black lab. Only problem is it is a bit heavy when filling, so I only fill it half way.
Looked like it was a winner     On: 2007-05-09

I purchased this in order for my cats to have enough water while I am away. The first time I put this out, my cats knocked the water container off the base and water was everywhere. Thinking that this was just a fluke, I tried again. Same thing happened. I must now think of some way to keep the water container on the base, so that the cats wont continue to knock it off. It simply sits on the base without locking in to place. If there were some way to lock the water onto the base, it would be a great product. I didnt have a problem filling the water container.
Agree that smaller would be better     On: 2007-04-27

I have 4 cats and find that if I fill this more than halfway the water gets discolored before its time to refill. My cats like to play in it getting scum and food in the water so it needs to be cleaned at least once a week. Its a great product, and I dont mind filling it halfway, however it would have probably made more sense to get the smaller one. I would also suggest that the food and water are kept a good distance from each other to help keep the water clean. It is not fun to clean it while its still full. As for the gurgleing it is not a major problem with cats since they dont drink as much as dogs it rarely happens while they are standing there. When it does they either run off and come back later or they try to play with it.
average     On: 2007-03-26

This is a great concept, but the product is so light - when water gets low, my beagles tip it over and end up using the bottle part as a chew toy.
Dog waterer     On: 2007-03-23

This Waterer is great for my big puppy, he drinks so much in one day. i dont have to continue to fill it every half hour. Half ful lasts for about 2 days then i rinse it and wash it and fill it back up. its just so helpful ide recomend it for anyone with a large dog.
YES the perfect bowl     On: 2007-02-10

This is perfect because it puts out just enough wanter through a small hole to fill the bowl properly with clean fresh water. It also has a filter to clean the water more as it comes out. IT is teh perfect size for mt cat... not tooo huge but not tiny either so i dont have to run and fill the water bowl 3 times a day anymore.

Simple & it works...     On: 2007-01-29

Nothing much that can go wrong here. No intricate mechanisms.
No moving parts. No pumps that can fail. Several smart design
features make it a solid buy.

I also highly (HIGHLY!) recommend their automated cat feeder.
poor quality bottle     On: 2006-12-22

The lower bowl part will last forever but the water tank lasts a month outside. Between the sun and cold air, the plastic get weak right away and the slightest touch will crack the top. I have gone through 3 of them. All with exactly the same results.
Great product!     On: 2006-11-19

I bought this for my 2 dogs & it works great & cleans up easily! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of five is because of its large size it makes it really hard to fill it up inside your home. It doesnt fit under my kitchen sink faucet. I dont have one of those tall neck faucets or a sprayer (wish I did))otherwise it would be a snap to fill. I have to use my bathtub to fill it up and my bathtub is upstairs. The container is really heavy once its full. My only suggestion would be to purchase a smaller one (2 gallon or 1 gallon), waterer. It would be easier to handle. I also bought the 5 gallon feeder & I LOVE it! It holds a whole 5lb. bag of food which is great! So get the larger feeder & the smaller waterer. Oh and my dogs love the gurgling sound the water makes after they drink out of it! :)
Great concept, but. . .     On: 2006-09-06

This waterer is a great concept, but does have some drawbacks. For starters, one of my dogs is scared to death of it and wont come near it because when the water level in the bowl gets low it gurgles just like a water cooler at work. The first time it happened she was drinking out of it and it freaked her out and now wont go near it. The other dog is just fine with it, but then again hes deaf, so the gurgle doesnt bother him. lol. The other issue i had with this is just like all water bowls, it gets dirty. so you still have to clean it as often as you would any other water bowl, but its a bit more cumbersome having to take the big jug off, clean the bowl and but the jug back on. So, if your dog isnt afraid of the noise it makes and you dont mind the extra hassle cleaning it, its great. Otherwise, just get a large bowl; thats what i ended up having to do.
