Great for cats too!     On: 2008-10-01

I purchased this for a cat. We needed to keep her closed in at nights. It is nice and roomy for her. It took her about 5 days to get used to it. The crate went together fairly easy. It is sturdy. Being able to fold it up is one of the best features. I saved about $40 versus buying it at a local pet store.
Excellent Product and Value     On: 2008-09-16

I own two and have a had one of them for over 2 years. I have two large dogs (American Bulldog and Doberman). Amazon had the best price compared to local pet retail chains. Highly recommend this product and completely satisfied with Amazaon on this purchase.
LifeStages 2 Door Crate     On: 2008-09-01

We have owned the single door version of this crate for about 4 years now, and love it. The 2-door version is of the same quality, very durable and easily cleaned. This is a very sturdy crate that will last for the lifetime of your furry friend.
Great product and price     On: 2008-09-01

I was initially concerned the 42" wouldnt be big enough for my Golden Retriever. It ended up being the perfect size, its bigger than I thought it would be. I can actually crate my rat terrier with my Golden and they both have plenty of room. The crate is durable and so easy to assemble. It took my longer to open the box than to set up the crate! I definitely recommend this crate to anyone looking for one.
LOVE IT!!!     On: 2008-08-13

It was easy to put together. Very heavy but completely worth it for our puppy.
Puppy perfect!     On: 2008-07-15

We purchased this crate for our Flatcoat puppy. I was attracted to this crate for the double doors and the divider panel. I also liked the fact that it folded open easily. The removal tray is fantastic and great for cleaning.

Our last crate had awful corner pins that never went in correctly and once together the crate was flimsy. The Midwest Crate has been perfect for our growing, rambunctious puppy. Its very sturdy and handles his very active jumping against the doors. The only downside is the divider panel is a bit tricky to get in and out but once in, is as sturdy and the outer sides.

Were getting a second Flatcoat puppy and Im ordering another crate for him!
Best I ever owned     On: 2008-07-12

This is the best dog crate I ever owned. Its easy to set up easy to expand as the dog grows older. Our new Black Lab enjoys sleeping in there and even goes in on her own at just 5 months old. Midwest Life Stages has my business for good.
Large dog crate for two Whippets     On: 2008-06-22

We unfolded and set up the crate very easily and quickly. The instructions were clear and simple--the construction quality good. It is sturdy for our dogs, yet light enough that we can move it with minimum effort. All details of the crate precisely matched the internet description. The crate fully met our expectations.

Also, as an added bonus, the dogs love it and its roominess. During the day, we keep an "open-door" policy, and they rest in it at their leisure.
Thank you for good service!
Great Crate, my dog loves it     On: 2008-05-30

This is an upgrade from an "Intermediate" size plastic kennel that I used for my black lab. He outgrew the old one, and I just couldnt bear the thought of having to close the door on him in it when we travelled, so I had to buy a new one. This one is very roomy, and after a few days, Ive found him going to it to lay in it on his own. Dare I say he looks even cuter curled up in this one?

This crate folds flat to about 2.5-3" thick and makes for easy transportation. Because it is metal, it is a little heavy. I had to carry it down 3 flights of stairs at a hotel last week, and it wasnt fun, but it was manageable.

A little tip: if youre upgrading from a plastic kennel like I did, the metal ones are completely rectangular which means that even if you got the same measurements, it would actually be a little bigger for the dog. I probably would have been just fine with one size smaller. Im not exchanging though -- I like that my dog has plenty of room if we need to leave him alone for a few hours some day on the road.

On a side note, the box was torn pretty badly. The FedEx driver let me look at it before signing, and the crate itself was fine. Just mentioning this so that people keep an eye out in case there is actually some damage in shipment.
Midwest 1642DD Life-Stages Folding Double-Door Metal Dog Crate, Large     On: 2008-05-14

We have a new Labrador Retriever puppy, now 10 weeks old.
They grow FAST and LARGE!
This crate is an additional one to a similar one purchased a number of years ago. This one is an improvement in several ways...
2 Doors comes in handy for where you are to place the crate.
Wheels to help move it around.
Removable/movable divider for puppy as it grows. Why do you need this feature? Because, crate training is the way to go with a dog. A dog uses it as his "den" for your sake as well as his and is great when PROPERLY applied. A dog usually will not soil his "den" area. If too large, as when a puppy, you divide it off into a smaller space for that reason and adjust its placement as the puppy grows. Otherwise, the tendency of the pup is to sleep in one end and soil the other end.
(Read all about this training method in a good dog care guide.)
Collapses for easy storage and transport. Finish is a black enamel paint that is easy to clean.
GREAT purchase!
Only downside on all crates I have found, is that I have to replace the liner tray in the bottom eventually, and THAT replacement seems to cost about as much as an entire new crate! :(
As for this purchase, I feel I got a good deal after browsing the internet and considering the gas prices to go in search of one in my area.
Midwest 1642DD Metal Dog Crate, Large     On: 2008-05-09

We are very pleased with the crate and its ease of use. We especially like the two doors as it really makes positioning of the crate in a room easy.
Dog Crate     On: 2008-04-21

Surprise --- this dog crate was easy to assemble--no long pins at the corners and trying to balance the whole crate while assembling. My lab had outgrown his smaller crate and this crate is absolutley perfect for him. We cover it with towels and he loves to go into his own personal space.

Top of the line when it comes to dog crates. Very easy to put up or take down. Heavy gauge construction. Will survive any dogs teeth! Highly recommended.
Love it!     On: 2008-02-27

I bought this for my shephard mix. Perfect size for her. At first she was skeptical about going in it, but now she absolutely loves it. It is her "room" and one can tell she feels absolutely comfortable in it. Easy to assemble, the double door is great because you can set it up however you want at home, and it even has a divider that comes in handy when potty training.
Buyer Beware     On: 2008-02-22

I think it is great that all the other reviewers (and their pets) have had positive experiences with this product. I, unfortunately, have not. I left my 65 lb dog in his crate for 45 minutes only to come home to the wire on the door having broken welds and the wire bent up at my dogs eye level. I understand that some dogs will be able to damage their crates, I just feel that the crate should withstand my dog trying to reach a toy that ended up outside of his crate. This damage has not only made this brand new crate unusable, my dog could have been seriously injured had he been left for a longer period.

To make it worse, I was told by MidWests customer service that the warranty will not cover anything because the damage was inflicted by the animal. I was told I should have "more thoroughly inspected the crate for any defects prior" to leaving my animal in it. So I guess I was supposed to check every single weld on every single wire on the entire crate before use. That is ridiculous. Further, no parts are replaceable (except the tray) and it is not possible to order a new door. I was told to go purchase a new crate at full price.

Be careful with this product. Apparently the warranty is void once your animal has been inside the crate. I gave it one star only because zero stars was not an option.
Dog Crate     On: 2007-12-30

This is the third crate I have purchased and the second one was the same company as this. They make a great crate at a very reasonable price and having the two doors, front & side, make it perfect for us. We have two big dogs in crates and being able to turn one sideways makes all the difference in being able to maximize the use of space. They are well constructed and break down to a carry away size in seconds.
Wonderful crate for a pup to grow into     On: 2007-11-29

We purchased this crate for our new 10-lb Labrador pup (who will eventually be 80+ lbs), and I couldnt be happpier with it. I only wish I had known about it 10 years ago when we got our German Shepherd pup, as we purchased multiple crates to accomodate her growing size. There is little to no set-up needed, as it literally just pops right up when you take it out of the box. The construction is very durable, with rounded edges. I thought the pan in the bottom would be cold for my dog, but its made of some material that seems to always be warm. The adjustable divider that comes with it is very easy to move. My pup is very happy in his space!
Wonderful!!!     On: 2007-11-11

This is a great item as it has two doors. A side door and a large exit door. I mainly bought this item for traveling in my truck with dogs and so far I just love how they work out.
A GREAT Product!

This crate was recommended by our breeder. After purchasing it through Amazon I now know why, it is the best item our puppy has to ensure a safe area for him to retreat to when he is done with his playtime. Also it is priceless in the housetraining process.

The product is well made and easy to use. This is our first experience with a crate and I am pleased that my dog considers it a home. We also have confidence that the dog is comfortable and safe as well as there will be no damges when we return home. We ordered an oversize crate and are glad that the dog has ample room to stand and move about which is an added plus. The crate is easy to fold and move so the larger size is no problem.
