Great Dog House     On: 2009-11-07

We priced this exact dog house at a local pet store and then came home and checked on Amazon and it was half the price. We ordered it right away. It came within days and we put it together within minuets and our dogs love it. We have a large Lab and 3 smaller dogs and they all fit inside easily. We are very happy with our purchase and would recommend this product.
very easy to assemble     On: 2009-08-11

I wanted a wooden dog house for my Shiba and decided on the Precision Outback. It was shipped via Amazon free super saver and arrived very quickly. The assembly was very straight forward, quick and easy. The structure seems solid and although the product already has weather resistant coating, I will be applying some water sealant on the outside panels and plastic on the bottoms of the footing blocks over the weekend for additional wet proofing.

This seems to be a well manufactured and excellent product. My only complaint is that on the day after assembling it, the same product became available on Amazon sold by Petco for $40 less (inclusive of shipping).

After being outside in rainy weather for two days, a section of shingles on the back right side of the roof warped to form a hump and will need to be secured down once it stops raining and dries out. I suppose the tolerances are a bit too tight and the damp weather caused the shingles to expand from the moisture.
It's a dog's life...     On: 2008-10-11

With winter approaching, I bought this house to give my dogs a place to get out of the elements. While it is missing insulation, the construction is very high quality...and will provide shelter from wind and moisture. I am very pleased with the overall construction, the attractive design, and the ease of assembly. The house looks even better than the photo. It went together extremely quickly - took no more than 10 minutes. The instructions were very straight-forward and easy to understand. The unit was packaged very well from the factory...with the hardware pieces arranged and laid out in a way very easy to identify/understand. Assembly litterally consisted of 8 bolts and 12 small screws. All you need is a screwdriver and a pair of pliers! I will very likely purchase a second one because of my overall happiness with this doghouse.
GREAT Pyrenees fit in the LARGE!!!     On: 2008-05-20

I am on the second one of these for my 8 year old Pyr... He is BIG, weighs about 145lbs... AND loves this dog house.
The first held up for a few years for having such a LARGE dog in it!
I couldnt be happier, NOW I have 3 NEW ones, two Large for my 2 Pyrs and a Medium for my Aussie!
GREAT buy for the price!
The raised floor is GREAT!
EASY to put together. WORTH the price!
Attractive and Roomy     On: 2008-01-10

I bought this for my cats, in case they find themselves outside during poor weather. I placed it close to the front door of the house so that they could run in fast if it was raining. (That was my reasoning, anyway - animals always seem to have their own plans.) I dont know if they hang out in it, but I do know that when I placed each one in it, he/she did not immediately run out, but stayed long enough to sniff around (the cedar smells great). I assume that they know it belongs to them.

The little house is attractive, well built, and easily put together in a few minutes with a Phillips screwdriver.

I took the time to make a few improvements, which may or may not be necessary, depending on where you live. To protect the house from the harsh sun, sand, and termites here in north Florida, I built a 4 x 4 pallet of pressure treated lumber to get it off the ground, which also provides a small porch for sunning and keeps water from splashing in from the ground. I gave it a coating of Behrs (from Home Depot) on the outside, to make it that much more weather resistant. I cut to size (with a utility knife) a piece of insulation board for the floor of the house, because the slats there are not air tight and would let in cold air - definitely something a cat would reject. Finally, I faced the door to the southeast, for shelter against the cold north air, and nailed a piece of exterior/interior carpeting with a slit in it to the inside of the door.

Another possibility is to line the inside with a reflective coating of some kind, perhaps one of those camping emergency blankets, or insulation that has a reflective surface.

I put in a round, padded cat bed with a hood (that the cats were already familiar with), in the back corner away from the door. There is enough room inside for two cats to lie down, if they are friendly.

All my improvements cost very little in time or money, and I feel assured that my little friends are safely out of the weather when they need to be.

I live in Wyoming and purchased this small dog house for my cat. The product assembled easily and is as presented by the vendor. I love the offset doorway which allows for food and offsets the wind.
Dog House for cats     On: 2007-12-28

We purchased the Precision Pet Outback Dog House for all our outside cats.
They took to it right away, especially after we put the heated pet pad in it. It looks good and our cats are much more receptive to it than an igloo house. Good investment to insure they are warm this winter and dry when it rains.
Great Value     On: 2007-11-16

Situation: I have 2 small Jack Russels and a Basset Hound. I wanted a pretty wooden dog house with a removable roof.

Positive: I priced the materials to construct my own and it was the same as this product (without shipping). Construction is super simple. Only a screwdriver is needed. The wood is cedar and smells great. I did not screw in the roof and it holds up just fine.

Negative: The wood is easily dented. People can easily purchase or construct their own wind breaker for the entrance.
It is pretty. But it pretty much stinks     On: 2007-10-15

DO NOT BELIEVE THIS LINE:
"Precision Pet Outback Log Cabin provides shelter during the winter and shade during the summer in a charming design that looks great in any backyard. Solid wood construction."
There is NO WAY this could provide shelter on a winter day, this couldnt protect from a gust of wind on a late spring day, let along a cold gust in winter. Summer? maybe.
The feet are wood, untreated, and I expect them to be rotted off by this time next year.
This dog house was BARELY large enough for my SMALL FRAMED 75 pound lab.
The reviewer who said his two extra large dogs fit in in, well, maybe they fit if their limbs were detachable. My dog couldnt stretch out all the way, it is NOT that large.
VERY poor quality wood, felt more like balsam wood than fir.
The wood roof just soaks up rain because it is untreated, leaving the underside (inside the house) moist and damp.
NO, I did NOT like this dog house. I would have given it only ONE star but my dog doesnt live in his doghouse! He is a housepet, but I wanted something to protect him in case I was running late on an errand or something and the weather turned bad. I wanted to make sure he had reliable shelter until I got home, for piece of mind. But this dog house did not fit the bill.
I moved this out of the dog run (by myself, because it is light and cheap)
and Installed a LARGE real cedar dog house with insulation. With help, because good quality wood is obviously heavier than this contraption.

I also believe the reviewer who said their floor broke. My dog weighs 75 pounds, and that is about the limit this floor could have taken.

This dog house will NOT protect your dog from the elements, there is NO door cover, not even a slight lip to prevent rain or wind from going in, and the roof and sides are stained but NOT WATERPROOF. You will have to use a waterproofer if you want this dog house to withstand one season, let alone FOUR.

Also, it really bugged me, the picture and description state LOG EXTERIOR. There are NO LOGS, just cheap planks. They look exactly like panel planks you can buy at lowes. I counted all the planks, the wood on this if you got it from Lowes would have been about $20.
I did recieve this very fast and it was packaged well. And it LOOKS nice. But really it isnt good quality at all. Buyer beware.
Munchie & Koda Love Their Log Cabin     On: 2007-08-08

I bought this cause I was looking for a flat roof dog house that the dogs could get on top of. It is made of fir, not cedar as one reviewer stated. It does have a cedar color finish. I bought the extreme model which may be a bit heaftier than the regular model. Fir is very lightweight, most of the weight comes from the shingles on top. I can move this dog house around by myself, a great advantage. I have had it over 4 years and it still looks great.
Great House!     On: 2007-02-11

I purchased two of these houses for my dogs. They were very easy to assemble and are very study once put together. My dogs weigh 110 lbs and 80 lbs and both fit easily inside their house. I was afraid that they might chew on them because they were made of wood but I learned from my vet that this type of wood serves two purposes, it deters them from chewing because it taste horrible to them and cedar is a natural repelent for fleas. The roof is great and keeps the weather out nicely, the floor is raised off the ground and the legs have protective, platic feet to keep the moisture out. It is still wood though so I would suggest using a water repelent on the outside just for added protection. They are two years old now and still look as good as the day I bought them!
Get Back, Outback     On: 2006-05-20

I waited 1 and a half months for my pets house to come. Im very satisfied with it, and the dog likes it too! It was a snap to assemble (very good instructions). My dog weighs 80 lbs. and I give him a rug and a pillow to lay on inside. Very sturdy. I have put an extention over the doorway to keep rain out. Other than that, a good design.
BUYER BEWARE!!!     On: 2005-04-11

I was drawn to this dog house by its look, the fact that the floor was raised off the ground and it was simply big enough for my 110 lbs rottweiler. Shortly after it arrived and was assembled, the floor BROKE! The walls now wobble without the added support from the floor. I am very VERY disappointed. I would have thought they would engineer it to support the weight of a dog that requires this size of house. Dont throw your money away.
