This is a great product. Effectively cleans ears with ease. Zymox products are the only ones I use on my dogs.
Zymox is a Miracle     On: 2010-07-23

My vet recommended Zymox drops for a yeast infection my dog had in his ears. Miracle product cleared it up in no time, so I decided to try the ear cleaner as well. This is another excellent product. Works well, just squirt a little in the poochs ear & wipe it out. Best ear products Ive ever used!

Would recommend them to anyone!!!
A Godsend -(tried 'em alll, this is the BEST) prevents chronic tendency to ear infections - Non-Oily, too!     On: 2010-07-12

Got a dog who, you discover after you fell in love with it, has allergic tendencies and chronic ear infections and itchiness or gunkiness? I found zymox was the best ear solution for cleanliness and preventing problems.
I adopted a sweet hound/terrier mix who tends to have some allergic reactions (skin problems and/or itchy hotspots) AND his ears build up dark yukky wax REALLY fast - quickly got a stinky itchy infection that needed antibiotic drops, so it was worth finding out how to keep him comfortable and his bodys inflammatory reactions under control. He was a rescue and he had thick ears, vet said probable evidence of past recurrent ear infections. And the first week he was with me he got one, thats how fast his ears got gunky and infected. We tried shifting to different foods and also various ear cleaning solutions, daily. Heres what finally worked - now hes GORGEOUS and comfortable and has soft tight fur that hardly sheds at all, too.
1) Ear care: Zymox is the KING of ear cleaners. This regular ear cleanser has some decent ingredients and some natural enzymes in it - and doesnt have a lot of glycerine so it doesnt leave his ear and fur oily all day. And NO stinky PERFUMES either, thank goodness. (Some commercial ear solutions really reek!) Now his ears are nice, calm, not red, dont smell, and are dry all day after the zymox ear stuff I apply each morning dries up.
Using the regular zymox - hold his ear near the end firmly between thumb and forefinger of one hand (so he wont shake, and if he does say No) with the ear held up so you can see down into it; dribble the zymox in drops to run down the inside of his ear folds and into the ear canal, until you see the liquid begin to fill up the ear canal. Still holding the ear firmly so he wont shake, put the bottle down and use your palm to briefly rub the base of his ear so the stuff gets more evenly distributed. Let go and let him shake (dont do this in new clean clothes, and be prepared to wipe up droplets from the kitchen floor unless you did this outside; if hes wiggly, put the leash on him and step on one end of it). Give him a treat if hes impatient, or wait until the other ear is done. Then use a tissue or soft paper towel to blot the excess stuff from his ear flaps - dont ever poke down into the ear; no need - the gunk will quickly come out by the 2nd or 3rd day - just blot up the wet stuff on the outside and tips of his ear. Then treat and happy praise!
If hes getting over an ear infection, or doesnt have a stinky infection but his ears are really reddish and itchy, then use the OTHER zymox, the one called "Otic" which has a little cortisone in it to soothe the awful itch and get things clean and healthy again. Do it once a day, the same way, but note this has glycerine oiliness to it (messier but well worth it). It has the same enzymes and stuff the regular zymox has so it will lift out gunky stuff too, it just treats the itch along with the root cause of the problem, the gunk and whatever other conditions that tend to develop infections. Once the ears are back to normal, go back to using the regular zymox. For my dog, as long as we do this as part of the daily morning ritual (its quick), hes had no further infection problems. (Though if its seasonally really bad then he can have one human benadryl per day - hes a 50 pound dog, so if you have a tiny or midsized dog, ask your vet for the correct dose size for your baby first!)
This zymox stuff, regular and the Otic, did NOT appear to sting his sensitive ears when they were red and infected. I want to note that I found two other good ear cleaning solutions as well, though not quite as effective as zymox. One was Oxyfresh Pet Ear Cleaner, and the other was "Gentle Ear Cleaner Dr Jeff Werbers Performance Formula)". I got these through amazon like the zymox, because my local pet stores dont carry any of this stuff. So amazon is where I get the zymox from, because some online pet supply retailers carry it.
Some online pages say you can save money and use vinegar and water solution, but that stings (not a good way to train your dog that its worth holding still for your ministrations). Try it on your own ears after they are rubbed a bit raw. Anyway, I think the zymox approach is best because, wow, does it work!
2) Internal/nutritional: He had tail hotspot, and the itchy gunky-build-up ears, and stained interdigital areas evidence of past itchy paws, and some dark tiny waxyish spots on his tummy skin and some strange whitish patches on his elbows, that vet said looked like could be past skin infection indications. He had been on commercial dog food before, the one that looks really good in the commercials (meat and vegetables are supposed to be in it) but when you read the ingredients its loaded with dyes and first ingredient is corn meal, plus other ingredients frequently allergic for sensitive dogs. He thew this up once and it really stained my carpet! Yukky dyes and mostly corn, not good for dogs, just profitable for the manufacturer who has to pay for expensive commercials; better quality food costs 5 or 10 bucks more and the dog lives healthier and therefore cheaper than feeding him cheap food. Transitioned him to a diet without the dyes and junky grain fillers - tried Wellness chicken and rice, which some dogs do great on, and he was better on that but stools a bit loose and sometimes it came up. Transitioned him to California Natural fish and potatoe and Walla! Stomach calm, stools firmed up nicely and he was a happier camper. My last dog did great on that food, too. Vet had recommended alaskan salmon oil on his food to help his skins natural balance (amazon carries two quality alaskan wild salmon oil brands), and also I give him Missing Link Plus powder supplement (glucosamine, probiotics, some other nutrients all from good sources). These cost a little, but not a lot, not more than the vitamin pills and other stuff you get at the pet stores like PetSmart. Amazon again had the best deals, often from pet health supplies vendors, and of course all the reader reviews were handy information.
Dogs skin now totally normal, all healed, no funny spots, no hot spots, no itchy ears, and he hardly sheds anymore compared to how he was before. And his ears are calm and clean by using the zymox each morning. Doesnt hurt and he gets a treat so no big deal for him and quick for us. Was glad to find simple ways to keep him comfortable and healthy without having to resort to expensive canine allergist/dermatologist, allergy shots, etc. Dog just needed the right foods, clean ears and minimal antihistamine. Raved about zymox to my vet and his staff, who are impressed with the dogs lovely clean comfortable ears. Thank you zymox.

A Godsend to halt chronic ear infections     On: 2010-06-26

Like many other reviews you will read about this product, I also have a dog (english mastiff) that suffered from chronic ear infections since he was a puppy. Hundreds and hundreds of dollars to the vet over the years and trying all kinds of prescription meds never seemed to bring any long term relief.

Started my own independent search and came across this product early last summer. Tried the 1.25 oz without much hope, and IT WORKS! I treated Riley every day for about 12 days. The instructions recommended 14 days, but his ears were clear for the first time I could remember since he was a puppy and I was running low on product. With summer starting again, I saw the old "helicopter head shake" that is a dead giveaway and have started him early this time on a new application. Still have a little of that original 1.25 left, but now am coming back for the larger size.

Riley is a much happier dog, and I am a much happier owner. The best part: It doesnt seem to bother him to apply (once he got over the fear learned from the earlier products.) No chasing a 170lb dog around the house to give him his medicine, yay! He sits quietly and then goes about being a happy dog again.

Excellent product     On: 2010-05-23

As Always product arrive promptly and in excellent condition.. I highly recommend this to keep your dogs ears in prime condition, certainly saves on vet bills for ear infections..
A Product that actually WORKS!     On: 2010-05-14

Being a dachshund breeder, I have had ear problems in the past. But, thanks to Zymox Ear Cleanser, I no longer worry. This is the BEST I have ever used, and I have tried many. I introduced it to my vet and now he is sold on this product.
Excellent product!     On: 2010-02-04

My German Shephard has suffered with yeast infections in his ears for the past 2 years. We have used an entire 16 oz. bottle of DermaPet MalAcetic Otic (from the vet) with no good results. I have also tried Raw Apple Cider Vinegar with warm water -again with no results. After doing an online search I read about Zymox and it sounded like a miracle solution. Trust me- IT IS. I am still awaiting the Zymox medicated drops but this product arrived first. It says on the bottle not to use with infected or inflamed ears but I used it anyway and after 3 cleanings his ears are completely clear and healthy looking. I can not wait to see what the medicated drops will do next time if the cleanser works this well.
This one does work     On: 2010-01-26

Ive tried alot of products similar to this for my dogs ears, this one does work like it says it going to. It seemed alittle expensive when I was considering buying this, but it is well worth the money.
zymox otic with cortisone works great     On: 2009-11-24

I use zymox otic with cortisone for my cats and dogs and as long as I use it every other day the ears are staying clean, wipe out with a soft tissue and add a few drops and repeat as needed.

Works very well.     On: 2009-09-20

One of my dogs has had chronic ear infections and inflammation since she was a puppy. I have tried a couple of other ear cleaners, and Zymox is the only one that seems to clear up the infection. I have thrown away all of the other cleaners, and will use only Zymox from here on.
great product!     On: 2009-07-17

I have used the blue stuff vets give you, but I found this stuff to work the best. I used it on both a beagle and cocker spaniel which booth have floppy ears.
Works great!     On: 2009-01-26

Use the Zymox otic to treat the infection and the cleaner for routine maintenance.

My baby bichon, Annabelle has had a chronic ear infection since we got her. We have been cleaning her ears with an aloe/acetic acid cleaner from the vet that must have burned because she would cry and shiver for a bit after getting it. That plus antibiotics would help, but never "cure" the infection. After 6 weeks, I decided I couldnt do it anymore and ordered Zymox cleaner/medication. Even though we had cleaned her ears the day before, I used the Zymox cleaner the day it came. I checked her ears a few hours later and there was tons of black gunk. I cleaned it all out using q-tips and cotton balls moistened with Zymox cleaner then used the Zymox medication. It has been 5 days and she hasnt had any more ear discharge or odor despite using the cleaner another time. For the first time in 6 week the ear stink is gone!!!! The best part is that she doesnt mind the products at all, no shaking or whimpering!
